Chapter Twenty Three

In England, near Stonehenge, a large purple spell circle appeared in the ground. Several creatures came out of it. Some were humans and others were monsters. They all had darkness outlining them. They were the Dark Ones.

One of them turned to a female monster. This Dark One looked like a man. He had black hair pulled back into a ponytail. His eyes were blood red. He was in a tuxedo. His friend had curly horns coming out of her head. She had a clawed hand and a snakehead for her other hand. She had two large batwings and a dragon tail. They looked around.

“We’re finally free.” The male one said. He activated a portal. It showed a boy killing Zelcro. “It looks like Zelcro failed Basheba.” He said.

Bathsheba looked at him. “So do we move in?” She asked.

Doom Lucius nodded. “Soon we will.” He said.

Carver looked at Zelcro as he vanished. The others joined him. “That’s the first time I ever saw that.” Nichallo said.

Cassidy looked at him. “What do you mean?” She asked.

Nichallo turned to her. “That a Dark One is actually killed.” He explained.

From the remains of Zelcro’s knife, a silver aura appeared. It made a human body and laid on the place where Skye had been. The silver aura then became an outline and Skye appeared in it. Her wound vanished. She began coughing. It was quiet but Carver heard it. He turned around. His eyes widened when he saw her. He ran to her. The others turned to him.

“Carver?” Nichallo asked.

Carver didn’t answer. He bent next to Skye as she opened her eyes. Carver helped her up. Skye’s eyes began to water as she smiled. She hugged Carver tightly.

The others joined them. “This is amazing.” Elizabeth said.

Cassidy hugged Skye. “Good to have you back.” She said.

Elizabeth turned to Nichallo. “Let’s get to your place. We need to talk about what to do next.” She said.

At Nichallo’s magic shop, Nichallo took them all to the back room. He locked the door behind them. “Sit down.” Nichallo motioned to the chairs around a table as he said that. As everyone sat down, they looked at Nichallo.

“What do we do next?” Skye asked.

Nichallo looked at all of them. “I’ve been thinking it over and I have finally come to a decision.” He answered. He looked at Skye and Carver. “Carver. I want you and your family to keep Skye with you.” He then turned to Cassidy. “You and I will talk to your parents about what is going on.”

Elizabeth interrupted. “I thought you said it would be too dangerous for them to know.”

Nichallo sighed and nodded. “After today’s fight, I changed my mind. They need to know what their daughter is getting into.” He answered.

“What about me?” Elizabeth asked.

“You’re to go to Central Park and get ready to greet our allies when they arrive.” Nichallo answered. He then stood up. “We need to get going.” They all left.

Nichallo and Cassidy went up to a house. “Not too big.” Nichallo commented as he looked at it. Cassidy shrugged. It was two stories high. After seeing the buildings she had just seen, she was thinking the same thing.

Cassidy went in. Nichallo followed her. “Mom! Dad! I’m home!” Cassidy announced.

A woman came out of the kitchen. She looked like an older version of Cassidy. A man came out of the living room. The woman ran to Cassidy and hugged her tightly. “So good to have you home.” She said to Cassidy.

Cassidy waited until her mom let go. “This is Nichallo. He owns the magic shop that I went to a few days ago.” Her dad and mom looked at him.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you both.” Nichallo said.

Cassidy’s dad nodded a bit. “How may we help you?” He asked.

Nichallo took a minute before he spoke. “We need to talk.” A bit later in the kitchen, Nichallo finished his story.

Cassidy’s mom sighed and rubbed her forehead. “I don’t believe it.” She said. “I know it seems a bit weird,” Nichallo began.

Cassidy’s dad cut in. “Weird? You turned our daughter’s life upside down. You’ve destroyed her future.” He said angrily.

Nichallo stayed calm. “Her future isn’t destroyed. She’s the child of prophecy and she will defeat our enemies.” He said.

“Dad. I chose to do this. If I didn’t, then the world would have been doomed.” Cassidy said. Her parents looked at her.

“Everything happens for a reason. It wasn’t by chance that she came to my shop.” Nichallo said.

“Cassidy, are you sure you want to do this?” Her mom asked.

Cassidy nodded. “This is my destiny.” She answered.

Her parents looked at each other and then back at Nichallo. “You’ll take care of her, right?” Cassidy’s dad asked.

Nichallo nodded. “I’ll treat her like a niece.” He answered.

“Then Cassidy, good luck with this.” Cassidy’s mom said to her. “We’re supporting you in this all the way.”

The two went outside. “That went nicely.” Cassidy said.

Nichallo smiled. “Your parents are just worried about you. They have good reason to too.” Cassidy looked at him. “You’re going up against all the Dark Ones and their forces. All we can do is help you.” Nichallo explained.

Cassidy stopped. “Where’s Chaos?” She asked.

Nichallo turned to her as the color left his face. “Where did you hear his name?” He asked.

“On the plane. You and Elizabeth said he wasn’t with the other Dark Ones. Where is he?” Cassidy asked.

Nichallo sighed. He didn’t realize that Cassidy had heard him and Elizabeth talking. He had thought the young girl had been asleep. “During the war, the Guardian and Chaos fought. They were the most powerful ones in the world. The Guardian knew that the only way we could succeed was if Chaos was sealed away alone. So the Guardian sealed him in his own body.” Nichallo then looked away.

“Did he escape?” Cassidy asked.

Nichallo shook his head. “Chaos’s spirit is cursed to wander through the son of his host if his host dies. If there’s no son, he has to find a new host. Since the Guardian had no son, Chaos could be anywhere.” Nichallo finished.
