Chapter 17

Alexa was not expecting that answer. Alexa had no idea what to expect next. She began to wonder how serious this virus was. Colin saw the look of worry on her face.

"Don't worry, it won't kill you; you have the Markonian immortality gene." Colin said.

"So you are saying I am immortal?" Alexa asked.

"You are my great-granddaughter, you inherited my immortality."

"How long will I have it?"

"Only time will tell."

"How did they get their hands on a Markonian virus."

"Henry Lucas, David's grandfather spent time on Markon."

"David's grandfather is Markonian?"

"No, he is human. He was kidnapped by Markonian slave traffickers."

"So you think he might have brought it here?"

"Possibly, he did have a grudge against Markonians."

Colin reached his hand toward Alexa. He felt her forehead; it was warm to the touch. He nodded when he had confirmed that Alexa had a fever.

"Is there a cure?"

"No, you just have to wait it out. You should stay down here, if Brian finds you in this condition he could kill you."

"I thought you said I was immortal."

"You are; however, the virus is suppressing your powers. The virus won't kill you but other things can."

"Are you sure Brian can't get down here?" Alexa asked.

"We are inside a pocket universe; it is basically another dimension. I don't think Brian can travel across dimensions."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, no Markonian has ever gotten cross-dimensional abilities."

"What if they kept I a secret?"

"Not likely since Markonians are required to register their powers. Telepaths would read their minds to discern the truth."

The elevator doors opened. Brian walked through the doors into the main lab. They had not expected Brian to be able to get inside the pocket.

"Staying down here won't help you." Brian said.

He somehow knew the code to get down here. Brian was wearing a spandex suit; on the chest was an R with a spiral on it. He carried a bag and dropped it on the floor next to him.

"Like the suit?" Brian asked.

"How did you get down here?"

"I have clairvoyants; I saw Alexa typing in the code."

Brian reached down into the bag he had brought. He pulled a gun out of the bag. Brian held the gun out pointing at Alexa.

Colin quickly go in front of Alexa. Brian smiled and shook his head. Brian slowly cocked the gun.

"This is going to be so easy." Brian said.

"Brian, don't do this." Alexa said.

"Once I get rid of you, there will be nobody who can stop our plans."

"I have seen the future; it will not be the one David planned. Metahumans will fight each other to extinction. David is the one who will start that war." Alexa said.

"You forget I am a time traveler; I can get as many do overs as I want."

"Maybe, but you cannot control everything." Colin said.

"Enough, now any last words?" Brian asked.

"Not for you." Alexa said.

Brian began to squeeze the trigger. Colin saw a portal forming behind Alexa and in front of the gun. He reacted instinctively and grabbed a microscope from the desk. He threw the microscope into the air the moment Brian had fired the bullet.

The bullet hit the microscope before the microscope came crashing to the ground. Brian smiled at Colin's quick reaction.

"Let's see if you can block this one." Brian said.

"Let's not." Colin said.

Colin grabbed a scalpel from the desk. He threw the scalpel at Brian. Time began to slow down. Alexa saw this and realized she was still able move.

Alexa began to run for the elevator. Brian created a portal in front of himself and in front of the elevator. He stepped through and was now in front of Alexa.

"Did you really think you could outrun me?"

"No, but I had to try." Alexa said.

Time began to resume. Brian pointed his gun at Alexa and squeezed the trigger. The gunshot echoed through the room. Alexa felt the sharp pain in her chest and her vision began to get dark as she fell to the floor.

Dream Industries

Brian Taylor walked through a portal into David's office. A second later a second Brian walked through. The first Brian began to shift his appearance looking slightly older. David looked at the waiting for the news.

"I killed Alexandra Kline." Future-Brian said.

"Great job." David said.

"What's next?" Present-Brian asked.

"We kill the rest of the Amazing Alliance." Future-Brian said.

"Who's that?"

"Sorry, they haven't been named yet; Drake Lucas, Nathan Maguire and Elise Freeman."
