Chapter Thirteen ~ Party
"This is my granddaughter Ginny, isn't she the sweetest?" A lady whose name I learned to be Greta, had asked me.
"She sure is," I say, bending down so we were at eye level.
"You have a very pretty name," I say to her causing her to giggle and hide behind her grandma.
"She's usually like this, it's not you Luna, she's just shy," she says patting the girl on the head. The thought of wolves being praised like a well behaved dog popped into my head, I try my hardest not to let out a giggle.
"Can I borrow my mate?" Odysseus' voice interrupts causing my heart rate to sky rocket.
"Of course Alpha, you don't have to ask," Greta smiles, she turns around but not before giving me a sly wink causing me to let out a weird chuckle.
"What was all that about?" He asks me, smirking.
"Not sure, probably for tonight, even thought you're not getting any," I say with a little humour.
He grabs my arm and yanks me somewhere where we're alone.
"Tatum, I am an Alpha male, and you are my bride and mate. You can't just deny me of pleasuring my own mate. We need to be one completely. To complete everything we need to mate. You will bare my pups!" He whisper yells, trying to keep his voice down. I couldn't believe he thought he was in the right.
"I know! But it doesn't have to be tonight! I married you, you marked me! I'm your queen now! Why is nothing ever good enough for you? I'm trying!" I raise my voice at him, hoping that he understands me. I didn't want to be his mate let alone anything else. I'm doing this for him because he's making me.
"I never said you weren't good enough! Ugh! Let's just go have lunch and we can discuss this later!" He says, creating a full stop to the end of this argument. He didn't even solve anything. I look at the ground avoiding his gaze, it was just going to piss me off if I had to look at his dumb face any longer.
"Look Tate, I'm sorry, I don't mean to upset you, princess. I just wanna have a nice wedding day with you, no more arguing, at least for a few hours please," he says grasping my hands.
"Fine. But only because I don't want to hear your whining voice," I say before ripping my hands out of his and picking up my dress before walking past him. I turn the corner and smile at all the guests that have gathered for our stupid wedding.
Odysseus catches up behind me and places a hand on the small of my back. He leads me to the dining area which has now been moved outside for the purpose of the wedding.
I sit in my seat as Odysseus tucks me in before sitting in his own. Everyone else takes a seat as Odysseus rings the bell that was sitting on the table. The waiters and waitresses start to bring out the food, and in under a minute the table was full.
Odysseus dishes my plate before dishing his, I guess this was a possessive mate thing. Of course he had to prove I was his while we were at our wedding.
"In honour of my mate, my wife, my Luna, my Queen. Today she will take the first bite," Odysseus says causing looks of approval and nudges of mates to be shared around the large table and the tables around us.
I smile at his words, at least there was some decency in him.
I grab my fork excitedly and stab a piece of sweet potato before putting it in my mouth. Signally that everyone else could eat.
I finish everything on my plate and Odysseus looks a little shocked. I was definitely hungry that's for sure. In reality I probably wouldn't have eaten that much but this had to be the best food I have ever eaten.
Do you want any more?" Odysseus asks me with a smile, he was filled with nothing but pride for his mate.
"No I'm ok, thank you though," I say wiping the corners of my mouth with my serviette.
"Congratulations to the happy couple!" Hiram says earning a fake smile from me, prick.
"So have you come out from hiding now father?" Odysseus says throwing his serviette down onto his empty plate.
"Not exactly," he answers, causing my eyes to meet his.
"What kind of a father would I be if I missed my sons wedding?" He asks Odysseus, giving him a hard pat on the back.
"Father as you know I am thankful for the safe return of my mate, but if you are done here you are welcome to go back into hiding, both Onyx and I agree it's best," Odysseus says with a tight lipped smile.
"Well in that case," his father sighs sadly.
"I guess I'll see you around son," he says, sadness evident on his face as he retreats. Trying to hold in his tears as he disappears into the bush. Where in the damn hell is he going?
"You didn't have to do that," I say to him as people leave the table. Bidding each other farewell as the sun starts to set.
"You don't know him Tatum, he abandoned us when my mother died. He's a poor excuse for a father," Odysseus says gripping onto his fork tightly before letting it fall onto the table.
"I know," I said comforting him. He looks at me skeptically.
"Onyx told me..." I tell him, so he knows I'm not some creepy stalker.
"I know. I know that he abandoned you. My parents abandoned me to. They abandoned me at birth, and that's how I got to my village. But you know what the difference is? Your father is still here. You're father is trying. You didn't see the sadness that I saw in his eyes. He is trying with you, you might not see it but I do. And if I were I'd start being more grateful because at least you have a parent that's here and wants to make things right with you," I say, tears welling up in my eyes by the end of my speech, I had hit a nerve with myself. Usually I wouldn't be sad but seeing someone be ungrateful for what the had seemed to have sent me over the edge.
I get up knocking my chair over, I pick my dress up and start running through the crowd of people. I run through the open field and don't stop. I run and I run and I run until my throat feels so tight it's about to explode.
Suddenly I feel my dress get caught on stick, I try and pick it up so I don't ruin it.
I fall to the ground in a mess and I scream and cry, my lungs screaming for air. I scream at my parents, the man I'm mated to, the marriage, my village. Everything I can think of I scream at it.
"WHY ME?!" I wail.
"What did I do to deserve this?" I ask nobody in particular as I start to calm down from screaming.
I break down into small cries letting my emotions get the best of me.
"Tatum Anne Barlowe?" A shaky male voice asks.
"Whose asking?" I cry, not bothered with turning around to face the man.
"Vincent John Barlowe," the voice says causing my tears to seize, I was confused and overwhelmed. This better not be some sick joke.
"W-What?" I ask turning around to face a man I've never seen before.
"Tatum, is that you?" He cries covering his mouth.
"I'm so confused," I say letting out a humourless chuckle, trying to stop the tears from falling as my lips quiver.
"I'm... your father," he says, dropping his hands to his side as tears fall from his green eyes.
"You better not be messing with me!" I cry, he shakes his head and that's all the reassurance I need. I quickly scramble up off the ground and go to hug my father for the first time.
"But wait, wait, wait! Why did you get rid of me? Where are you from? Why are you here? Are you human? Or what?" I ask getting flustered, wanting answers immediately.
I take a step back waiting for him to explain.
"Tatum, we should get you back first, we don't want the Alpha king getting mad that he lost you... again. And especially not on your wedding day," he says offering me his hand, not wanting me to get in trouble.
"How did you know it was me?" I ask him as I take his hand. We walk back to the castle and talk.
"As soon as I heard your name, I knew it was you. It has to be, you look so much like your mother she would have loved to see you," he says with tears in his eyes.
"What do you mean would have?" I ask, my eyebrows furrowing in wonder and fear as we reach the clearing.
"The attack that was ordered on our pack. They killed her, and I thought they killed you but you're clearly alive! I never saw your body! In my heart I knew you weren't gone but it felt like you were! You were just a baby and I thought I lost my family forever!" He cries, I give him a hug, comforting my father as I relish in his presence. Suddenly words hit me.
"Mum is... dead?" I ask, a lump forming in my throat, tears clouding my vision.
"Yes I'm so sorry my dear, I wish I could have done more to protect you both, but you're here, you're safe and that's all that matters!" He says as I pull away from our hug.
"So why are you here? How are you here?" I ask him, just now grieving over the loss of my mother as my tears fall.
"Oh! Thank you for bringing my mate back safely! And Alpha Barlowe I'm so glad you could make it!" Odysseus greats my father.
