4. Mate? Vampire Mate?

Kayden’s pov
March 17, 2019

After working my whole life for Queen Polli, her terrible son and kind daughter, I should know a ton about vampires, but when it comes to vampire mates? Nope, the only thing I know about them is that they are soulmates and are made for each other. I lightly put down Princess Andrew. Even though she wanted me to call her ‘Andy’ I am way too scared to call her that and then get beaten. Yeah, I have been beaten. Mostly by the prince when the princess is out. The princess is so kind and sweet, she would never let her brother hit me or come near me if she knew the truth.

“So, Want to come to my room?” Princess Andrew asks.

“Umm, Only if you want me to, Your Highness.”

She frowns, I bow my head waiting for the hit or punch that never comes.

“Kade. Kayden, you are my mate, my equal. You can call me whatever you want, except Princess Andrew or Your Highness.” She scolds.

“I am sorry,” I keep the head low, showing that I know she rules over me.

“Kayden!” She yells. I flinch back in fear.

“Sorry, Kade. You are my EQUAL. Whomever told you otherwise and broke you is going to pay!” She growls, “Lift your head.”

I lift it to see her sad eyes, not sad because of me but sad for me. The only person to show me this much kindness other than my parents was Princess Alli.

She sighs and rubs her hands over my back, I wince when she rubs my cuts. She raises an eyebrow and walks around until she is behind me. She lifts up my shirt and gasps when she sees all the cuts and bruises.

“Who did this to you?” She whispers.

“I swore not to tell anyone.” I say, bowing my head.

“Please, Kade?” She lifts my head and I stare into her kind stormy eyes.

“Fine,” I sigh then mumble, “Prince Adam.”

She growls and pulls me close. As soon as she touches me, I tense before relaxing slowly.

“I’m going to kill him.” She hisses and hugs me tight.

“An...dy? You’re... me... Can’t... breathe...” I gasp. She instantly lets go.

“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry!” She says, “Are you ok?”

I nod. She hugs me again. Then as if she remembered something, she yanks back and runs, too fast for me to see, to the counter about ten feet away from me.

“What?” I ask. She looks hurt, all I want to do is go comfort her, but I don’t want her to run off again. I stay put.

“I’m so sorry.” She says.

“Why?” I ask, now confused.

She sighs, “I forgot, I accepted you but you haven’t accepted me.”

“What do you mean?”

“Do you want me?” She looks down.

“I don’t get it,” I say.

“Do you want me as your mate?” She asks, looking up under her eyelashes.

“Of course.” I reply honestly, yet secretly scared out of my wits.

“You do?”

“Yes. We are mates, we are supposed to be together and even if we weren’t mates, I already...” I pause, embarrassed.

“Already what?”

Already like you.” I say quietly.

“You do?” She asks, she looks shocked.

“Yes.” I state.

“I like you too, Kade. And I know you aren’t ready yet but we can get to know each other and be friends for a while.” She says.

“Thank you. I may not be ready to be your mate, but I’m ready to accept you as my mate.... I think.”

“I, Princess Andrew Nara Moree, accept you, Kayden Sande, as my mate.” She says, and after the last words come out of her mouth a bond snaps together and we start to glow even though we are apart.

“I, Kayden Sande, accept you, Princess Andrew Nara Moree, as my mate.” I whisper and another snap and the bond is complete... I think.

“Hey, Kade!” I hear.

“Woah! What was that?” I ask, Andy laughs.

“That was a benefit of the mate bond! Just like werewolves have their ‘mind link’, Vampires can talk to their mate when they accept them. Though we can only talk to our mate, werewolves can talk to their whole pack.”

“Wait. Are werewolves real?” I ask, I start to shake in fear.

“Yes, they only live in Russia, though.”

“Oh. How do I talk to you in the mind link thingy?”

“For vampires it is actually called ‘mate link’, but anyway you think of me and picture me in your mind, then think of what you wanted to tell me but make sure you don’t stop thinking about me.”

“Ok, like” “this?” I say half out loud and half in the mate link.

“Exactly. Great job, Kade!” she links me. I also noticed the whole time she was linking me, she wasn’t blinking although her eyes looked normal.

“Alright everybody! If anyone else met their mates would you please come talk with me in the next 10 minutes, so I can announce it to everyone! Enjoy the last hour of the party!” I hear the queen say.

“Do you want to be announced?” Andy asks me.

“Is it possible for me to be announced without the vamps seeing me?” I ask... knowing that most vampires aren’t as kind as others.

“Of course, Kade.”

“Thanks, Andy.”

She smiles, “You called me ‘Andy’. Thank you.”

“Oh, yeah. You’re welcome.”

“Stay here. I’m going to find my mom. Even though you aren’t going to be public, she has the right to meet you.”

“Ok.” I say, while thinking ‘oh man. I’m gonna die.’

Andy pov

“Ok.” Kade says. I smile and run out of the kitchen. Back in the living room, I find my mom standing by the stairs with a worried look on her face. She turns when she smells me entering the room.

“There you are, Andrew. Where have you been??”

“Hey Mom. We need to talk, privately.”

“Sure,” She says. I grab her arm and pull her towards the kitchen, turning left at the last moment I head to the library.

“What’s going on, Andrew?” She asks.

“Listen to me completely before you say anything, Ok?”

“I met my mate. He’s human, though and wants to be announced to the party, but he doesn’t want to be seen. We thought that you might want to meet him.”

“Oh honey! I’m so glad you met your mate. I don’t mind that he’s human, but if you two want to marry and stuff he will have to be changed to a vampire.” She says.

“Ok. Want to meet him?” I immediately accepted, though I don’t know how Kade will take it.

“Yes.” We walk out of the library and into the kitchen where Kayden is waiting on a stool, with his hair recently combed back.

“Mom, this is Kayden, my mate.” I say, pulling Kade up from the stool. He bows his head.

“Hello Kayden. I’m Jennette, Andrew’s mother.”

“Hello Queen Jennette. It is lovely to meet you.” He says with his head still bowed, nervousness dripping into his words.

“Kayden, you don’t have to bow to me and please call me Jennette.”

“Ok, Jennette.” He says, lifting his head.

“Ok, Kayden. Who are your parents?”

“Mary L. Sande and Josh Sande.”

“What is your job?”

“I work for Queen Polli and her children.”

“Alright, What do you do for them?”

“I clean.”

“I see. You and your parents are welcome to move here. You won’t have to do any work. You would be provided three meals every day and capability of having snacks when hungry. I request that your parents do some work at least but they don’t have to. What do you guys think?”

“I think that would be lovely and my parents would love to come here, if that’s ok with you and Andrew.” He’s nervous now.

“I agree. I hope you will move in?”

“Good. Now, I will give Kayden a guest room across from yours, Andrew and your parents can be next door to you, Kayden?”

“Sure.” Kade says, probably shocked at the thought of moving.

“Good. It’s settled. Now, I’m going to go do those anncements.”

She walks out.

“Wow, that went well.” Kade says, with a sigh.

“It sure did, Kade.” I replied.

“Hello everyone! Lets give a hand for the last sets of mates! We have Hannah and Prince Alec, Princess Andrew and Kayden, Princess Kelly and Jakob, May and Ryder, and finally Opal and Riley. I hope everyone has enjoyed the party and has a safe trip home!” my mom says. We hear the chatter of people as they say their goodbyes and head back to their homes or queendoms.

“I’m gonna go say bye to everyone. I’ll be back later.”

“Ok, see you later. Meet you here?” Kade says.

“Sure.” I say and run back to the party. After a ton of ‘goodbyes’ and ‘have a good nights’ we are finally done and everyone who is leaving, left and everyone who is staying the night, is in their guest rooms going to sleep. I turn around, going to head back to the kitchen, when I run into Vio.

“Hey, Violett!” I say, giving her a hug.

“Hey, Andy! How’s your mate?”

“Kayden is good but very scared. He doesn’t want to meet everyone yet. Mom said that he can move in with his parents!”

“Really? I’m so happy for you!” She seems sad.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, I am just so tired.” She yawns.

“Ok. Well, head up to my room and I’ll meet you there soon. I’m going to get Kayden settled.”

“Kay, Night!” She says, heading up the stairs.

“Night.” I ran into the kitchen.

“Hey, Kade! I was ju- Kade?” I walk in to see no one here, “KADE?”

“Right here, Princess.” He called from the pantry. I jump.

“Oh, Kade! Don’t scare me like that.” I yell, smacking his arm, “What are you doing?”

“Making hot cocoa.” He turns holding a packet of hot chocolate.

“Oh, yummy!” I say.

“I love hot chocolate!” He says.

“Me too!”

“Well, I’m making some up.” He turns on the stove and puts a kettle of water on the burner. After a couple minutes, the water is boiling and he pours it into two mugs with the hot chocolate mix already in.

“Thank you.” I say, as he hands me a cup.

“No problem.” He sets his cup down and grabs marshmallows from the pantry and drops a couple into our cups.

“Wow. I have never had it this way before.” I say.

“Really? My grandma used to always put marshmallows into her hot cocoa.”

I take a sip, “Yum!”

“Yeah, I know.” He sighs into his cup. He looks up at the clock.

“Holy cow!” He yells.

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s 2:35 in the morning.” He says. I laugh.

“Yeah, vampire parties are pretty long.” I smile.

“You got that right.” He says, finishing his hot cocoa.

“What to head to bed?” I ask.

“Yeah, I’m going to need to know where your room is and where the guest room is.”

“Yeah.” I laugh. I turn on the sink and wash out my cup and put it away. Kade washes his cup as I am putting mine away.

“I was going to do that for you.” I say.

“Oh, well. I beat you to it.” He laughs.

“Ya, you did.” I put away his cup and grab his hand leading him out to the stairs. After getting to my room, I say,

“This one is my room and that one is your guest room.” I point to the right rooms.

“Ok. Good Night, Andy.” He says.

“Night, Kade!” I say, we both turn and head into our rooms. I see Violett sleeping on her side of my bed. I chuckle and change into my pajamas. I take off my crown and place it on the nightstand by my bed. After brushing my teeth, I climb into bed and fall asleep almost instantly.
