Chapter 1

England, London

I woke up with some very weird feeling, like something big needs to happen but I just can't figure out what.

I slowly get out of bed to get ready for the big day ahead. As I was walking to the bathroom, my phone rang somewhere in the room I just still can't figure out where the sound is coming from. After five minutes I finally found it under the book I was reading last night before I fell asleep. The book is by Jane Austen and it's called "Love and Freindship". Love and Freindship ( the misspelling is one of many in the story ) is a parody of romance novels Austen read as a childe. This is clear eaven from the subtitle, " Deceived in Freindship and Betrayed in Love" which undercuts the title. In form the story is a fairytale featuring wilde coincidence. “Persephone, did you get up”,she shouted over the phone. “I did Scarlett, I'm just getting ready. Did you need anything or did you just want to check if I woke up?”, I sead rubbing my eyes. “I just wanted to see if you woke up and to let you know I will be coming to get you in half an hour,” happily she said. “Okay, I'll be ready by then.”

I finished talking to Scarlett and this time headed straight for the bathroom, stood in front of the mirror, and my face was somehow different, as if there was more life in it than usual, even my shappir blue eyes had some spark in them. Maybe it's because I've been getting a great night's sleep lately. After taking a bath, I headed to the closet to find out what I was going to wear today for college. I took black pants, a white shirt and a leather jacket over and my ankle black boots. As for makeup, I didn't want anything too intrusive, so I put on some concealer, mascara and lipstick.

After I was happy with my outfit, I went down to the living room to pick up my purse and headed for the kitchen. I took an apple because I don't have time to prepare anything more for breakfast because Scarlet was already waiting for me in front of my apartment building.

As I got out of the apartment and started to lock up, I heard Scarlett yelling from the car and telling me to hurry, or we would be late for our first day back.

"Don't worry. We won't be late, we have too much time, we will even arrive half an hour early,” I told her as I sat down in the car, “I know that, Pers, but I have a reason why I want to get there earlier,” I glanced at her.“And what reason would that be"? I think for the first time in my life she laughed so much at me, "Well, I heard that some guests from Russia are coming to our college today."

After that statement, she just laughed at me and I looked at her in disbelief, because she can only hear something like that and leave half an hour before the lecture because of that. Scarlett changed the subject and set out to talk about what she did while at the autumn break that we just had. And as usual, I wandered somewhere in my mind again. I wandered so much with my thoughts that I didn't even notice that we had arrived, but even when I think about it, it only takes ten minutes by car from my apartment to our college.

"You wandered off somewhere again, didn't you, Pers?" , "Sorry, I didn't mean to. It happens sometimes", apologetically I said. "I know, and I certainly love you even if you wander somewhere like that most of the time."

We got out of the car and said goodbye and headed to our classes. We don't study the same things and that's why we're in different locations on campus. Scarlett is studying archeology and I am studying literature.

I arrived twenty minutes earlier before the first lecture of the day begins. But the good thing is that I can choose my place for this year. And that's why I chose the last row. I am grateful because I remembered to pack the book I read last night. I immersed myself so much in the book that I did not even notice that the classroom was full and that the professor should arrive at any moment.

And just as I was thinking that, Professor Blackwood came in, as if I knew. He immediately set out to explain to us what awaited us this semester and soon after that he set out to teach. The lecture was about Dante Aligeri's Divine Comedy.

This is one of my favorite poems, but I still couldn't focus on what Professor Blackwood was talking about. I often find myself thinking about my parents at the most unusual time of the day. They died 10 years ago, I thought I would be able to erase that image from my head, the car was broken, everything was on fire and there was too much blood. I still wonder how I survived and how they didn't. I miss them too much but I know they would like me to move on with my life and follow my heart and be passionate about things I love as much as they were.

Further, in my mind, I didn't even notice anyone stand next to me until they coughed and scared me a little. I jumped up and looked to my right to see who it was. It was a man with beautiful crystal gray eyes.He is tall, he is nicely built judging by his appearance. His muscles are clearly visible through his white shirt. Which look like they are sculpted or carved in great detail. His hair is black and very finely styled if I may say so. His facial features are rough, he has frowning lines and undertones that indicate he is not sleeping enough or even at all. His lips are full but not too much and they are light pinkish shade. .Time seemed to stand around us as I watched him, there was something strange about him, as if invisible ties were pulling me towards him. He coughed again and brought me back to reality. It was such a weird moment I thought, but I better not analyze too much what just happened.

"Is that seat next to you taken by any chance?" He asked, pointing to the seat next to me. I just nodded and stood up, so he could pass and sit in the seat next to me. I'm still so in the shock that I couldn't utter simple words.

Throughout the lecture, I tried not to look in his direction, because first of all I don't want to look like some very strange person. I looked at my watch and saw that there were two more minutes until the end of the lecture, and I was actually really looking forward to it.

After it rang, at such a speed as I was packing up and staring to get out of the classroom I forgot my book. But I can't go back there for it now, maybe he's still in the classroom, and I can't risk it.

For the rest of the day, nothing more interesting happened, and somehow I managed to push the mysterious gentleman out of my thoughts. After class, I waited for Scarlett to finish her class because she texted me that she wanted us to go to a small coffee after college to tell me what had happened to her this morning. Because, according to her, she can't convey her little event to me through a message.

While I was waiting for her, I felt as if someone was watching me through the shadows of nearby trees , I turned to see who it could be, but no one was there. Watching to see if there was anyone or anything that was looking at me, and because of it I didn't hear when Scarlett approached me for somewhere behind me.

"What are you looking at?" I jumped at her voice because I didn't think she would finish the lecture so quickly. "Nothing, forget it," I quickly changed the subject. "And tell me what was so important that you couldn't tell me over the phone?" I asked her with a questioning expression.

"Let's go to the café there on the corner, so I'll tell you and you won't believe it," I just looked at her, and we headed to the café.

After five minutes of walking, we reached the cafe and ordered what we wanted to drink. I ordered black coffee, and Scarlett ordered hot chocolate because, as she says, she lacks sugar right now.

We moved to our usual place by the window, so we could watch if someone interesting passed by, those were her words and not mine. "Let me hear what happened this morning. Because I see you're all happy about something and I know it's not about me." "Well, do you know that I told you this morning that guests from Russia are coming today? Well, you see that one Russian sat next to me this morning at a lecture."

"Please Scarlett don't tell me you stalked him in the hallways," shocked by my choice of words. "Of course not, but I heard that he and another who came with him were actually investors in our college and had come to visit the works that run on the second floor of the college".I just laughed because I know what she is like, and she must know everything.

"Okay, and what does that really have to do with your case?" "Well, he came up to me and sat down next to me. And I have to tell you, he's very handsome. He has ashen blonde hair, emerald green eyes. And let me tell you in confidence, he seems to visit the gym very often". It was obvious from her words that she had been dreaming about him all morning. It reminded me of a gentleman from this morning. "Speaking of which, I'd say you're a little bit in love." I said that through laughter, which made her push me with her elbow and there I burst out even more laughing because she was all red.

"It's not like that ,I just said he's handsome and nothing else," she said, stating the facts. "And what's the name of that mysterious man?" ,"His name is Valerio, and as far as I remember the other is called something by the letter M, it's a long name, so I don't remember really.

Could it possibly be a gentleman from this morning, but judging by Scarlett's words I would say it's definitely him.

"Persephone, are you okay, you look really weird?" Scarlett was always kind to me and after the incident she always took care of me.

" Yes I'm feeling fine, don't worry. But I think that other gentleman was in my lecture this morning" , " Really, he was? What is he like, you have to tell me", "Well he seems normal,I don't know, nothing special really." She looked at me a little surprised, "I think only you can say something like that about a handsome man".

After we finished our coffee, she offered to take me back to my apartment, but I declined her offer, telling her that I would take a walk because it was a very nice day and I live close to the café.

I love London at this time of year. It's not too cold and it's not too warm, and it's just right in my opinion. Some say that autumn is somehow dead to them, because everythin dies when summer passes and is no longer alive.

On the way to my apartment I was thinking about the mysterious Mr. M. Something is not as it should be around him.
