Chapter 9

“What in the hell are you doing here?” Toby exploded as soon as he laid eyes on Valentino. He couldn’t believe that after everything there he was standing in the council chambers.

“Toby. Its so nice to see you again and Alice I see your fairing well.” Valentino said. “The king called me here to discuss these awful allegations against the werewolves. I cannot believe that someone would do such an awful thing.” He said as he shook his head. “It saddens me that we cannot move past the past.”

“I can’t believe you would come in here lying like this Valentino.” Daniel said.

“Hush, Daniel. That will not help anything. We all know what is going on, but unfortunately we are just wasting our time here.” Tyler whispered.

“Toby, my boy, how are you doing on this fine day?” Stephen asked as he walked in the room.

“Well I was doing alright, but that changed pretty quickly. We see you’re busy with Valentino so we will come back later.” Toby answered as he went to turn to go out the door. “Come on guys lets go.”

“Wait Toby we all need to talk about what is going on.” Stephen said.

“Sir there is nothing I want to discuss with him.” Toby said snottily.

“Toby, come to my chambers and speak with me privately.” Stephen said as he turned towards his chamber.

Toby turned towards his companions shrugged his shoulders and followed Stephen into his chambers.

“Toby I trust you with my life and many secrets of this palace. What is upsetting you today? I have never seen you act like this towards anyone.” Stephen said as he poured him and Toby drinks.

“I have a long standing hatred of Valentino. He killed my girlfriend many years ago and I have yet to forgive him for it.” Toby said quietly as he looked out the window. “Then he just shows up in Cartersville demanding I release Alice to him after she had been attacked. He set Daniel’s house on fire to kidnap her. Then he just waltzes in here and acts oh so innocent. It just amazes me how he is.”

“Toby, if you think I believe it I don’t that is one of the perks of being a king. You learn the way to please everyone without anyone knowing your lying through your teeth. There are very few people that I do that to but Valentino is one of them. I don’t trust him I never have. I just have never found a way to get rid of him from the council. So there is nothing you need to worry about him let him talk for awhile then he will leave and we will figure out a way to completely banish him.” Stephen said.

Meanwhile in the outer rooms….

“So Alice are they treating you well?” Valentino asked.

“Better than you at least I’m allowed to eat and not stuck in a cage like an animal.” Alice replied snottily.

“Guys come on lets not start.” Tyler said.

“Tyler just stay out of it.” Daniel said.

“No let him talk I am sure there’s a lot he has to say. Right, Valentino?” Alex said sarcastically.

“What are you talking about Alex?” Valentino asked turning to face him.

“Guys what did we miss?” Stephen said as he walked back in. He stood eyeing everyone for a minute. Nobody spoke a word. “Well then lets get this settled.”

“You know what I am done here. Come on Alex we are wasting our time anyway.” Valentino said as he walked towards the door. Alex just stood there looking at him.

“No Valentino.” Alex whispered.

“What did you say?” Valentino asked walking over to him.

“I’m not going with you.” Alex said a little more loudly.

“Ok.” Valentino said as he walked out the door.

“I’m leaving to guys.” Alex said as he walked out the door.

“Wait what the hell is going on, Alex?” Tyler asked grabbing Alex’s arm.

“You of all people should know, Tyler. I saw all the pictures the letters everything. It explains so much why you quit talking to us, why anytime your name was mentioned Valentino got all weird.” Alex snapped in his face.

“Both of you just stop it.” Daniel said stepping between them.

“Alex, what does Valentino want or what is he doing?” Francis asked.

“I’m curious to know the answer to that too.” Stephan said.

“He wants to know about the hermit on the mountain. He feels like Alice here has a sorta special connection to him.” Alex said looking at Alice.

“Why would he think that? I never knew who my father was.” Alice said quietly. “Is the hermit on the mountain my dad? How can that be he’s a vampire.”

“Exactly. That’s why I am here.” Francis chimed in.

“Wait you knew, Francis?” Daniel and Toby said together.

“It clicked just about 19 seconds ago. When I heard Alex say Valentino wanted to see the hermit. That’s why he wanted Alice to find out what she knew about him and how to get into the country am I correct?”

“He did ask me how easy it was to get onto the island.” Alice said quietly.

“You must go and find him.” Stephan said.

“Come on guys.” Toby said as he opened the door. They all filed out of the great chamber except Alex. “Alex, come on your with us now.” Toby told him.
