-14- Jaleena

The next morning I lean against the kitchen counter with a bowl filled with cereal in my hand. Something is nagging in my mind and I can’t seem to put my finger on it. I let all the things I know going through my mind one by one. First, we need to create a portal so we can travel to earth. They said Julian can help with that, but I can’t shake the feeling that his ‘I’m on your side’ talk won’t last. If something happens and he doesn’t agree with it, I wouldn’t be surprised if he switched sides again, and then I'm in real trouble. Regardless of what I make of him, I do need his help. that reminds me; I still need to ask the guys about their powers. Damnit, why do I keep forgetting that, it's bullshit and honestly not something I can just dismiss. It could turn out handy in my plan to destroy my father.

Besides the fact that we need to travel to earth, there’s also no plan at all for our first attack. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that Nikolas needs to be killed first. It’s the fact that we don’t know anything about the situation Nina is in. Sue, we know she’s being held somewhere outside New York, but that's about it. There has to be a way to save her. Although we don't know each other for long, I can’t let Gideon down. First thing first though. We need to find out in what kind of circumstance Nina is in, save her, kill Nikolas. After that, I’ll focus on Levi. That fucker is next. Just when about to put the last bite in my mouth, Julian comes rushing through the door, clapping his hands enthusiastically. He grabs me by my elbow and with a clang, the bowl ends up on his side in the sink.

“What the hell, Julian,” I yell. “You scared the fuck out of me!” He doesn’t even look at me but pulls me outside the kitchen towards one of the doors in the hallway that I haven't been through before.

“Oh shut it, you brat. I need to show you something.”

“You could’ve just asked you know,” I tell him with a scowl on my face. I let him drag me through the rest of the hallway and turns around with his hand on the doorknob. He jumps up and down on his feet, nodding his hand enthusiastically.

“Before we go in, I need to tell you something.” He looks around but I'm not sure what he's looking for. We’re the only ones here and I can't imagine the guys don’t know what he wants me to know.

“Can we just hurry up now?” I snap. He has way too much energy at seven in the morning. It's too fucking early for this shit. He grins and finally opens the door.

“Fine, we’ll kill two birds with one stone. I’ll fill you in while you take a look around. But no questions before I'm done okay?”

Whatever. Finally, I look up and my mouth falls open when I see all the screens hanging on the furthest wall of the room. There are eight screens in total, all with something different showing. I'm not sure what I'm looking at though.

“What the hell…” I whisper.

I can hear Julian move around behind me, but I'm too focused on what’s happening in front of me.

On four screens there are what looks like images from inside a building. I can’t tell of what building, but it has to be important because it looks like the surveillance that my father has in his office. Two of the other screens display different news channels from earth. There's no sound, so I can’t make out what happens down there. One screen doesn’t seem to be working, so I turn my focus to the last screen on the right side of the wall. What. The. Actual. Fuck.

“Really, Julian? Fortnite?” I snort. Here I am, planning on killing a bunch of men and he’s watching videos of Fortnite. “How do you even get that here? Isn’t there like, some sort of restriction or something?”

He shrugs. “It's not important. What is important, is this. Look closely.” He points to the first four screens from the surveillance cameras. I take a step closer and I freeze when I focus on what it's showing. You have got to be kidding me. “That's where I was killed,” I whisper.

He nods. “I hacked into the cameras and it's currently on a loop.” His face turns red from embarrassment and a dreaded feeling forms in my gut. He doesn’t look at me. Instead, he's inspecting the nose of his shoes like it's the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.

“Julian. What aren’t you telling me?” I ask him cautiously.

He stays silent for a few seconds before taking a deep breath. “I have access to all the footage that they stored since the cameras went up.”

“Sooo… That means you can watch everything that ever happened there since…when exactly?”

“Since uh… About five weeks I guess?"

I stumble backward, bumping my hip against the edge of the desk that stands in the middle of the room, but I don’t feel it. There's footage of five full weeks. I haven't been dead for that long. Which means….

“It’s there isn’t it?” I whisper.

Julian nods again. “They didn’t overwrite or delete anything, so I can access it all. I can show you if you want?”

I shake my head. No way that I need to see my own death of that fat fuck that was responsible. Slowly I take deep breaths, focussing on getting my heart rate down. Overwhelmed and not really know what to do, I look away from the wall. Suddenly I'm feeling sick and it takes everything for me not to throw up. Gently he takes my hands and squeezes reassuringly.

“We’ll get them, Jaleena. I have a plan, I just need you to trust me.”

I scoff at him. “Trust you? And why would I do that? You didn’t give me any reason at all to trust you. Did you already forget how you felt about me two days ago?”

I know I'm acting like a bitch right now, but I can’t seem to shut up. He pulls me closer towards him, wrapping his arms around me to hold me, but I won’t have that, so I push against his chest with both arms.

“Did you watch it?” I ask him in a cold voice. “Did you watch what he did to me? How he violated me? How he killed me?”

He shakes his head. “Yes. No. Fuck!” He yells. Raising his arms, he pulls his hair and sighs in defeat.

“Which is it, Julian? Yes or no? It’s a fucking easy question.”

“I saw it!” He roars suddenly. He let himself fall against the wall with his back and slides down on the floor, pulling his knees to his chest. He shakes his head again and lets his head fall on top of his knees.

“I was going through the footage last night and when I recognized you I shut it down immediately. I saw how you were thrown in your cell but the first few hours it was always your back towards the camera so I couldn’t see your face. Not until you were bound against the wall. The moment I saw it was you I stopped looking.”

He looks up and I can’t move. I search his face, trying to decide if I should believe him. Like I said, just two days ago he would be glad if I was killed. But even though he was being a dick to me, I can tell that he's telling the truth. His eyes are glassy with unshed tears and I walk slowly towards him. I slide next to him on the floor and lay my head on his shoulder.

“You know, it's a shame that you’re gay. Imagine the fireworks when we would’ve had make-up sex.” I tease him, desperately trying to lighten the mood.

He snorts and bumps my shoulder. “I’m bi actually.” Before I can react he franticly shakes his head.

“Nope. No. Not going there with you Jaleena. I may have hated you before, I don’t think I can ever see you like that. Maybe, just maybe, I can think of you as my sister, but that is it.”

I throw my head back and laugh at the ridiculous conversation we ended up having. For the first time since my death, I can agree to something with him.

“Did you ever had a relationship with a man or a woman?” I ask him curiously.

Now that he mentioned it, I can picture him with a man and a woman.

“Nope. It’s not something I ever wanted when I was alive. I’ve had my fun with both, but I never thought I was relationship material.”

“Both? At the same time?” I tease.

“Yes, you nosy little thing. You know, you should try it sometimes. I bet the guys wouldn’t mind,” he winks.

My cheeks flush when I think about it. It is something I thought about but it’s too early to bring it up. I wouldn’t say no against it if a chance appears. Deciding I need to change the subject I stand up and look down.

“Okay sex maniac, what did you want to show me?”

He stands up and beams at me. “Now, I’m going to show you what I can do,” he answers.

“I’m going to show you my powers.”

Author's note: From the moment I started this story, I had an idea in my mind. It was supposed to be a contemporary romance, a reverse harem of course, but within a few days, Jaleena took over completely and it turned into a paranormal romance. Only her name and her men are left from my original idea. Every time I think I know where her journey goes, she throws me for a loop by walking her own path. I swear she does it every time! Please feel free to leave a comment or constructive feedback. I would appreciate it. Otherwise; I have no idea where she's taking me, so hold on for the ride and enjoy.
