prologue

I ran as hard as I could knowing that if they caught me it would be all over, I couldn’t shift not now when they were so close. I stopped running then jumped into my den, its to small for the men and I can take out their dogs since they have to come one at a time in order to fit. I was quite strong, to the humans I’m a strange two tailed fox with a blue pelt so light in color its almost white. But I am much stronger than any normal fox, I was a spirit shifter, meaning I can change between being a human and my true fox self.

The men were right outside now I could smell the foul stinch long before they got there. “This is it boys we got him trapped, that sly fox isn’t getting away this time. Let loose the dogs.” One of the men ordered, as soon as the dogs were set free I heard the men draw their swords and make ready their crossbows. The first dog came around the corner and I jumped him tearing out his throught before he could even yelp. I crawled further into the den and waited for the other dog who arrived in time for me to leap foward and blind him. After knocking him to the ground I reached for his snote in an attempt to destroy his sence of smell but he went forward and I ended up taking his right ear instead.

He stopped and tried to turn around so that he could retreat back up the tunnel but I grabbed his tail and bit down hard I didn’t have enough room to rip it off so I just broke it when I slid under him. The hound flipped onto his back and let put a howl of shear pain. I allowed him to regain his paws and stumble back up the den to his waiting masters only for them to behead him for his failure. The archers amedeatly opened fire and their blazing bolts set the den ablaze with in minutes.

“That’s the end of that one,” they said after I started yelping do to the rapid approaching flames. Quikly I rushed to th back entrance of my den and burst out knowing I was out of sight of the humans but when I landed another dog was waiting with its jaws instantly grabbing onto my scruff and throwing me into a tree. I collapsed instantly in to much pain, “You never should have gone neer the humans, now I have to kill you.” To my suprised confusion I had thought her a dog but she was truly a wolf, and that was the last thing I was able to get before I felt a sharp pain from my throught and chest as she tore through my flesh and I faded into darkness..
