Chapter 4 - Worth the Wait

“Holy fucknuts!”

“What’s wrong?”

“I can’t find anything to wear.”

I’m on the phone with Faye, pouting into the dark depths of my closet. It’s been a week since Sean and I kissed in his garage. We’ve spent every single day together, but tonight is going to be different. He wants to take me out on a date to use the prize we won at the party. It would be a shame to waste that. Ultimately, that’s what had me saying yes...that, and he kept kissing me. Who could resist those lips? Not me—that’s for sure.

“I think you’re losing it, girl. You have plenty of outfits that would work. What about the green dress you wore that night at the club?”

“Um...that was a Poison Ivy costume I wore for Halloween last year! Faye!”

“Okay, okay, keep your panties on. We’ll think of something.”

An hour and four outfits later, I’m pretty sure I have a winner. Maybe ninety percent sure. God, should I cancel? No, I can’t do that. Sean is so great. He doesn’t deserve that. It’ll be fine. Totally and completely fine. When there’s a knock on my door, I’m startled out of my wits. The restaurant better have a ton of alcohol. I have a feeling I’ll need it to calm down. I’ve never been this nervous before.

Sean looks so sexy and charming as I open the door for him. His calm smile has my knees weak. My eyes flutter closed when he pulls me into his firm chest. Our kiss leaves me panting and probably with the weirdest of grins. I always feel so happy while I’m in his arms, though. Everything else falls away at the warm contact from him. He’s amazing.

“Wow, Gina. You look incredible. Is this all for me?”

“Who else would it be for?”

“I don’t know. Just not used to this. Can I be honest? I’m a little nervous.”

“Really? But why?”

“This is kind of a big deal for me. I usually don’t date, but I’ve never been able to get you out of my mind. You’re so beautiful, baby and I like you a lot.”

I feel myself turn several shades of red because of his compliment. Never would I have thought someone as hot as him could be nervous, too. Showing me a little bit of his vulnerable side makes him even hotter.

“I like you too, Sean. Actually have for a while now.”

“I’m sorry I never made a move. I wanted to every time I saw you at the movie marathons. To hold your hand or pull you into my lap for a kiss. It was really hard to say goodbye to you after having coffee.”

“I never knew you felt that way. When the carnival came, I was hoping you’d spend it with me...instead, Dylan did. And we both know how that turned out.”

His hands slide down my arms to hold my hands. The strong grip he has on me sends a shot of confidence through me. Sean silently wills strength and adoration to me, and I squeeze his fingers in return. How does he do that? Without a single word—he instantly lifts my mood. I smile at him while reaching for my purse. When I get back to the door, he leans in to place a brief kiss at the corner of my lips. Wisps of warm breath fan my face as he speaks.

“Let’s get going, baby.”

“I’d like that.”

The restaurant was absolutely fantastic! Seafood for miles and a breathtaking view of the ocean from our table on the outdoor patio. Sean has been the perfect gentleman all night, whether that meant opening doors or pulling out my chair. Dylan never did that once.

Speaking of the gremlin...

We’re walking down the sidewalk on our way to the movies when I’m sure I spot him with that cock-juggling thundercunt, Joann. He has his bony arms wrapped around her and they’re kissing with a disgusting amount of tongue. The sight grosses me out enough to make me shiver. Sean immediately holds me tighter. As we cross the street to join the line for the theater—he gently reminds me that Dylan isn’t worth it. That sweet gesture earns him a kiss to his neck while I nuzzle into him.

How did I ever get so lucky?

Almost three hours later, we both stumble out of the doors, laughing at some of the funny lines in the movie we just saw. I never would’ve thought of Sean as a romantic comedy type of guy. He has really surprised me tonight, but in a good way. I can’t stop smiling at him like a huge dork.

“You’re just smiling at me a lot. Is there something on my face? Everything okay?”

“No, everything is perfect.”

I slip my arm around his waist, hugging him close. Sean pecks my lips, then leads me back to his car. The date is almost over and I don’t think I’m ready for that. When he opens up the passenger door, I stop him with a hand to his chest.

“You think we can maybe walk to my place from yours instead of you just dropping me off? I don’t want this night to end so soon if I’m being honest.”

“Of course, baby. Anything you want.”

“Thank you.”

Sean laces our fingers together to walk along the sidewalk. A light breeze stirs up a pile of leaves near us and I rub my arm with my free hand.

“Cold? Come here. I’ll warm you up.”

Easily, I’m tucked further into him. This is a great way to get warm. After a few short blocks, a question that has been bothering me spills out of my mouth.

“So I have to ask...what made you finally ask me out?”

“Well, I didn’t think I could pass up my second chance with you.”

I’m confused. What is he talking about? My wrinkled brow must tell him I’m lost because he starts explaining. Sean is Dracula reborn. He’s been stumbling through this life, feeling incomplete until he met me. To him, I’m the reincarnation of his wife. Long has he been waiting for this moment. No one else could ever be the one but me. I nod in the appropriate places while thinking he’s lost his freaking mind. How could anyone believe this?

Abruptly, his eyes glow a startling shade of red. I’m extremely frightened, backing away from him as fast as I can. Up against a tree now, Sean blocks me in with his body. His haunting stare mesmerizes me. Slowly, I sink beneath that bloody gaze—helpless to move or speak.

Within his embrace is where I stay...never to leave. A smile punctuated with greed and thirst spreads across his lips a moment before he bares a set of real fangs. My neck as his target, Sean savors the feel of claiming me. The sound of his bite marks the end of life as I know it. Forever I will be chained to his side, roaming this Earth as his long-lost bride.
