Chapter 26

Four was the number of rounds last night, it looked like he had something to prove. And now I’m supposed to be training.

“Are you sure you want to train? You had some sustained physical activity last night.” Zack says to me with a smirk.

Oh my god. “Excuse me but you seem to forget that you’re talking to your Luna.” I tell him shocked.

He laughs before answering me. “Sorry but my room is right under yours and werewolf hearing is very developed.”

“Let’s start training.” I tell him seriously.

“We’ll warm up first, running five laps around the room in short strides.”

I comply as I understand that I need to be in top shape for the evening. I train every day with either Noah, Alec or Zack but never with anyone else.

Once the tricks are done, Zack tells me that we’re going to practice outside in wolf form. I’m a little apprehensive because the last time I fought in wolf form was in battle but it’s the form I’m strongest in physically so I have to be ready.

The training went very well, I’m exhausted, Zack didn’t spare me. We go back to the pack house, once the training is over, and we each go to our respective rooms to shower.

Once showered and dressed, I decide to make a quick call to my mother to check on her.

“Hi sweetie are you ok?”

“Hi mum, I’m fine. How are you?”

“I’m fine. Lots of work at dinner but I’m fine. It’ll do me good to take a break and visit you.”

“Yeah, you deserve a break.” I hope everything goes according to plan or she won’t get any rest. “Noah asked me what connection our family had with the wolves. Had you told him about that?”

It takes her a few seconds to answer. “No I just said we were related to the wolves, sort of. I told him your grandparents knew about you two.”

“Okay. But then I told him the story of my great grandmother Asha. Mum, he told me something I never really paid attention to... I don’t have any scars. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen any on you either.” I tell her.

“When you were four years old, you fell off your bike and cut your right knee. I disinfected the wound and put a bandage on you. The next day, when I took the bandage off, there was nothing left, not a single mark.” She pauses. “In the restaurant, I’ve already cut myself several times and each time I put a bandage on, when I took it off there was nothing left.”

I don’t believe it. He was right, there’s something wrong with that.

“How is that possible?” That was the only question I could articulate.

“Your grandma Ama told me it was in our blood. We were given a gift when the wolf bit my grandmother Asha.”

He was right, it was the bite. How did I never realize it. If he hadn’t asked me I probably never would have thought about it.

“You can ask your grandmother questions when you see her. We’ll arrange a visit if you like.” My mother says to me.

“Yes thanks that would be cool.” I reply with my mind elsewhere. “By the way, thanks for the albums but why didn’t you give them to me when we met?” I ask her.

“I sent them to you before I knew I was coming to Sophia’s birthday actually. It took a while for them to get to you.”

“Anyway thanks again. It was good to get back into all those memories.”

“And soon you can make new albums with Noah filled with new memories.” She tells me and I can hear her smile through the phone.

We hang up a few minutes later.

I sit alone in the room for a moment to think and it seemed I took my camera to the pack.

After rummaging through my things I find my camera, I think it’s time to use it.

I leave the pack’s house and start to walk around the territory taking pictures of my favorite places like the weeping willow for example. I head towards the clearing and see that the construction of the house has started so I take the opportunity to take some shots.

I continue my walk and passing in front of Sophia and Alec’s house I try my luck and knock. I don’t know if she’s there.

Sophia opens the door.

“Hey it’s you. Come on in.”

“I was just walking around and wanted to know if you wanted to do something together.”

“We can go for a walk around town, I still need some clothes for the baby and some nursery items.”

She turns around to pick up her bag and when she faces me again I take a surprise picture of her.

“Hey!” She says to me in surprised. “You caught me by surprise.”

“Perfect!” I say as I look at the picture I just took.

I turn the camera to show her the screen.

“I have to admit. You really have a knack for this.”

I quickly pick up my things, mind-link Noah to tell him where we go and we head into town.

NOAH

“I’ve never heard of anything like this.” Zack says to me, mouth agape.

I just told him the story Amelia told me about her great grandmother.

“I haven’t either. I don’t know there’s something about it that seems strange.” I sigh, running my hands through my hair. “I’d like to dig into that story but I don’t know where to start.”

“I’ll try to find out on my own. There may be an elder who knows similar legends.” He tells me before adding. “I know I’ve told you this before, but Amelia really is a badass. I pushed her today in training and she didn’t complain once. I know more than one who would have given up.”

“That’s true. She’s got a mind of steel and that’s what I like about her, she doesn’t give in easily.” I sigh. “But I worry about her. I hope everything goes well on Saturday. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without her.”
“Well I never thought I’d see you like this one day. You are both extremely lucky to be mates. You’re perfect for each other.”

My phone starts to ring cutting us off from our conversation, it’s unknown number.

“Alpha Noah speaking.”

“My dear cousin how are you?”

“Christian?!” I open my eyes wide looking at Zack who stands incredulously in front of me. I put the speakerphone on.

“I thought I’d take the time to call you since we’ve never officially met.” He speaks in a very relaxed manner for someone who wants to kill me and take my mate.

“I’d tell you I’m happy to talk to you but I’d be lying.” I tell him curtly.

He gives a little laugh and replies. “Anyway, I just wanted to tell you to enjoy the time you have left with your beautiful, sweet girl because very soon I’ll be happy to take your mark off her neck and put mine on.”

I seethe inside and do my best not to throw the phone against the wall.

“Over my dead body.” I tell him through clenched teeth.

“Oh but I’m counting on it.” he laughs before adding. “I hope she still has her little champagne strapless dress. She looked so hot in that.”

“Ah!!!” I yell as I throw the phone against the wall.

“He’s doing it on purpose. He just wants to throw you off your game before Saturday.” Zack tries to calm me down.

“Fuck! That little asshole is fucking watching us. And Amelia and Sophia are in town alone.” I run my hands through my hair in frustration.
