The next morning, I hardly open my eyes, I must have fallen asleep. I move my arm beside me but I can’t feel anything, Noah must have gone out. I turn over to the other side to see the time, it’s 8am.
I sit down on the bed and at the same time the bedroom door opens and Noah comes in sweating.
“Good morning beautiful. you were sleeping fine I didn’t want to wake you up.” He says to me. He walks over and places a kiss on my forehead.
I didn’t want to wake you up,” he says, “Good morning. Have you been out training?”
“Yeah. I couldn’t sleep all night, my wolf was too excited and when I saw you had finally fallen asleep I decided to let him out. I went for a run and ran into Alec and Zack, so we worked out together.” He explains to me.
“I’m off to the shower and you shouldn’t take too long to get ready. We’ll have breakfast and then we’ll have to go over the final preparations for tonight.” He tells me before entering the bathroom.
I’m about to get out of bed when I hear my phone, it’s a message from David who wants us to talk before the party.
I exhale and fall back on the bed. This day has only just begun and yet I wish it was already over.
After breakfast, Noah and I went over the organisation of the evening.
“I’m going to check in with the deltas before the party. Are you planning to have lunch with your mother and grandparents?” Noah asks me.
“Yes that’s the plan and then I’ll meet David.” I pause. “He wants to talk to me before the party.”
“Do you want me to come with you?”
“No, don’t worry, I’ll be fine. Once we’ve had our talk I’ll have to get ready for the party.”
He hugs me and kisses me. Noticing that he doesn’t release his embrace I say with a smile.
“You know I’ll have to go.”
“Yes.” He sighs. “But only for a few hours and then I’ll never let you out of my sight.”
I nod and kiss him again.
I look at my reflection in the mirror, I still hate wearing suits so much.
A knock on the door.
Alec enters, he is also wearing a black suit.
“All set?” I ask him.
“Yes, everything is in place. The first outside guests should be arriving soon. I’ve asked an omega about Amelia and she’s just finishing getting ready.”
I nod and turn to face him.
“How do I look?” I ask.
“You look like someone who isn’t comfortable in there.” He answers me with a laugh.
I sigh. “Come on let’s get this over with so I can take this thing off.”
We leave my office and run into Zack on our way down the stairs.
“Everything okay on your side?” I ask him.
“Yes everything is perfectly in place.”
As Zack continues on his way, Alec and I take our places in front of the pack house doors to welcome our guests. Amelia will make her entrance into the reception hall once everyone has arrived.
And so begins a waltz of courtesies and greetings with the various representatives and alphas of the various packs.
As I watch two men approach, one of them looks familiar, they come closer.
“Is he fucking kidding me?!” I say through clenched teeth.
Alec looks at me and then follows my gaze.
“Well he’s got a pair.” He replies, stifling a laugh.
“Alpha Noah.” Alpha Sam greets me.
“Alpha Sam. How are you?” I reply, shaking his hand.
“Very well, thank you. Let me introduce you to my son, Nathan. Oh but wait, am I silly you two have already met. His brother stayed at the pack with my mate.”
Yes I have met this asshole before and I had told him to stay away from my Luna and me but obviously I wasn’t clear enough.
“Nathan.” I greet him faking a smile but crushing his hand with all my might.
“Alpha Noah.” He replies to me trying to keep a straight face in front of his father.
“Alpha Sam, Nathan. You can head that way, you’ll find the reception room and plenty to eat and drink.”
Once Sam and Nathan are out of my sight, I grunt and Alec laughs at my reaction.
“Calm down brother, we don’t have time for this tonight.”
And he’s right, the presence of this runt should be the least of my worries.Other guests approach and I greet them one after the other.
As Christain’s warriors gain ground, I begin my journey alone towards the cells. I have only one goal, to free Jenny and thus allow her to escape her execution. Having to spend weeks with Christian and his henchmen was unbearable, especially seeing Lexi. She too betrayed the pack and she had the right to be banished at least. Amelia promised me that by helping them my sister would be spared but I’m too scared of how things might turn out to take any risks.
I slowly approach the cells and as I expected there is only one guard outside Jenny’s cell, the others are too busy guarding the borders and the pack house.
I throw a rock at the wall opposite the guard who is cautiously moving towards the source of the noise and I rush behind him to strangle him. He struggles for a moment but I release him when I can’t feel him move. That was easy.
After taking the key from him, I open the door and run straight for his cell door.
“Jenny.” I whisper.
“Grayson? Is that you?” She answers me as she approaches the gates.
She looks better than the last time I saw her.
“I have one word sister, I’ve come to get you out of here.”
Once the door is open, she jumps into my arms and starts sobbing.
“I thought I’d never see you again.”
We stay in each other’s arms for a few seconds.
“Jenny you have to go. I’m staying here.”
“No, I want to be in the fight. I want to support my mate?”
“Your what?” I ask incredulously.
“Yes Christian. We need to help him take Alpha’s place.” She answers me calmly.
“Are you kidding me? No way I’m here for the pack not this egomaniac.”
I can’t believe she still wants to support him.
“He rejected you Jenny. He’s responsible for Eric’s death. How can you even consider helping him?” I run my hand through my hair in exasperation.
She suddenly turns around.
“I told you he could be trusted.” She speaks towards her cell but it’s too dark for me to see who she’s talking to.
What the hell.
I hear footsteps approaching.
“Zack?” I can’t believe my eyes.
“I wanted to make sure you didn’t flip.” He says seriously.
“I wouldn’t. Especially not after what happened to Eric because of me.”
I look down at my feet in shame. I feel Zack’s hand rest on my shoulder.
“I’ve talked to Jenny a lot and I understand your actions. All you did was help your sister. And by giving us the information about David you helped us a lot.” He explains.
I sigh. “Except that David is not your enemy.”
They both look at me with wide eyes.
“That’s what I thought at first, but then I understood everything.”
