Chapter 36

“Behind you!” Zack yells at me through the link.

I barely have time to turn around when I see a sand-coloured wolf jumping on me, but I manage to avoid it just barely.
Come on, girl, it’s just like training. I repeat this sentence to myself to give me courage.

The wolf turns around me, showing its claws and growling. Considering her build I would say that she is a female and a very aggressive one at that. She makes a few feints while trying to attack me.

As in training, I decide to attack first and take her by surprise, I plant my crocs in her flank and I squeeze her with all my strength. She struggles and manages to get out of my grip. She immediately pounces on me with a huge growl.

She bites my neck and I can’t stop myself from howling, I try as best I can to make her let go of her hold but without success.
Suddenly, another wolf runs at her and knocks her down.

I scramble to my feet and see a pool of blood forming on the ground.

“Did you think I was going to let you down? I don’t want my brother’s death to be in vain so we’ll take them all down and Lexi first.” Jenny says to me.

So this wolf is Lexi, no wonder she’s so pissed off at me.

Jenny and I start to circle Lexi, showing her our claws. After a furtive look between us, we pounce on her together. We chain together, scratching and biting, until she finally falls, her breathing slows and finally stops.

“So it really wasn’t bullshit... You’re not bleeding anymore already.”

Jenny barely has time to finish her sentence when a wolf jumps on her, propelling her against a tree and I hear a crunching sound. I rush to the wolf that has just attacked her. It looks me straight in the eye and I feel like I know it, it lowers its head slightly before turning around and going after one of our deltas. What the hell? Who’s that wolf?
I don’t have time to wonder too much, I run towards Jenny who is still on the ground.

Is everything okay? I ask her worriedly.

I think I have broken ribs. She squeals back.

Do you think you can get back to your human form?

I can try. She answers after thinking about it.

Listen carefully to what I’m going to tell you. Go to the third tree on your left. I have some clothes hidden behind it, you will find a vial. Drink its container and you can join us afterwards.

I don’t give her time to answer and return to the battle.

I wonder what could be taking them so long.

“Stop worrying. An Omega told me that the presentation doesn’t start now. They’ve set aside a time for all the guests to settle in, start drinking and eating while chatting with each other.” Mum tells me, stroking my arm.

“It’s just that with everything that’s happened lately I’m worried about Amelia.” I sigh. “I just want my baby to be safe is all.” I confess to her.

“I know but she’s in good hands with Noah, he won’t let anything happen to her.”

I nod. She’s right and at the same time I don’t think they would have organised this party if there was any danger.

“Have you tried the hors d’oeuvres? They’re delicious.” Dad tells us with his mouth full and I stifle a laugh. He’ll never change. “I spoke with Alpha Sam just now, he told me he came with little Nathan.”

“Little Nathan.” I say with a smirk. “He’s not so little anymore you know. One of them must be thrilled.” I can’t help but think of Noah and the reaction he had when he saw him and Amelia so close.

“Who’s that?” my father asks.

My mother replies. “Who do you think, Sherlock? Noah of course.” She sighs. “Sometimes I wonder if you do it on purpose.”

He shrugs and continues eating.

“It’s no secret that Nathan has always had a crush on our little Amelia.” She resumes.

I’m going to go see Amelia, quickly. I know her and these kinds of events are not her thing she hates being the centre of attention.

“I’ll be back.” I announce to my parents.

“You can’t help it.” My mother tells me with a smirk.

I smile at her and take the path towards Amelia’s room.

As I walk up the stairs, I come face to face with Sam.

“Sorry Alice but have you seen Nathan? I’m looking for him, it’s been a while since I’ve seen him.”

I shake my head. “No sorry. I was going to check on Amelia to see if everything was okay.”

“You must be proud of her. You did a great job with her.” He pauses. “I wish I’d had a daughter like that.” He sighs. “I mean, maybe I’ll have a daughter-in-law like her one day.”

I smile. “But yes your sons, I’m sure, will find their mate soon.” I reassure him.

“Nathan has found his. Unfortunately, the poor little thing died in a car accident.”

“Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry to hear that. I didn’t know about it.” I reply sincerely.

“These things happen unfortunately.” He sighs. “Nathan was so excited to see Amelia at Sophia’s birthday party. I think he was secretly hoping she would be his last chance mate. So imagine his surprise when he saw her with Alpha Noah.”

“Yes I imagine he must have been disappointed.”

“Disappointed?! He literally flipped out. Honestly, I love my son, but I’m relieved your daughter isn’t his mate. The Moon Goddess was right to give him a mate like Alpha Noah.” He explains.

“Relieved? That much?” I ask him.

He nods, “I’ll continue my research. Give Amelia a kiss and congratulations from me.”

“I won’t miss it.”

I go on my way and I have to say that I am relatively surprised at the revelations Sam has just shared with me. I would never have imagined that Nathan could be an impulsive, angry person.

I arrive at the door of Amelia’s room, I knock on the door and there is no answer. I knocked a second time. Maybe she was in the bathroom and didn’t hear me. A few seconds later, I decide to open the door, it’s not locked.

“Oh my God!” Those are the only words I manage to get out at that moment.
