After dinner, I decide to call Josh and tell him that I’m quitting the internship and that I’ll let HR know the next day.
He picks up on the second ring.
“Hi, I was just thinking about you. Are you okay?” He says.
“Yes, I’m fine and you? How’s the internship going?” I ask him.
“Honestly it’s amazing, John is great and he’s giving me lots of exciting things to do. But I can’t wait for you to come back, it’s not the same without you.”
“That’s what I was calling about.” I start hesitantly. “I’m afraid I can’t continue with the course. I’ve got a lot of personal stuff to deal with at the moment and I don’t have the time or energy for that.”
He doesn’t say anything for a few moments and just as I was about to ask him if he was still there, I hear him sigh.
“Okay. For you to give up your dream internship you must have some pretty big issues. Do you want to talk about it?”
“Not really, but it’s nice of you to offer. Look, Josh, just because I’m quitting the internship doesn’t mean I want to stop seeing you. I enjoy spending time with you.”
“No problem. Let me know when you’re free to get a drink or lunch together.”
We discuss the internship and his new assignments for a moment before hanging up.
I could sense he was disappointed but I thought he was going to try and convince me to stay but he didn’t. He was very understanding and didn’t press for answers. That’s why I like Josh so much, he always knows where the line is.
I can’t wait for Amelia to get back, I can’t believe Tom revealed his feelings to her. Little Williams admitted his love for her when she’s his sister, it’s weird. Alec warned me that they had left the Night Pack and he should be here right after lunch.
I’ve already contacted the Alphas of five packs, two have agreed to meet with me, two others have told me they don’t feel involved in this story, and the last one has admitted to understanding Christian and his motives. I thought more of them would be on my side, all of them knew my father.
I need to let off steam before contacting other packs, so I decide to go and train, plus it will motivate the warriors to see that their alpha is training with them.
The training was very intense, the majority of the injured recovered and went back to training. The advantage of accelerated healing.
I only have a few hours left before Amelia returns, so I take the opportunity to take a shower and have lunch. While I’m at my desk doing paperwork, my phone rings, it’s David.
“Hello Alpha David.” I say to him as I answer.
“Hello Alpha Noah. I wanted to know if you have recovered well from your injuries.”
“Yes, I’ve even started training again.” I reply.
“Good. I was mainly calling to discuss Amelia with you.
Amelia?! What does he want to tell me about her?
“I’m listening.” I tell him curious.
“That’s what I wanted to ask you, did you ever talk to her about taking over for me?”
“No. We haven’t really had time to talk about it.”
“When she came to visit her mother, she didn’t take the time to talk to me. She has the shoulders to do it, I know she would make a great Alpha and with you helping her I know you would do a great job. But I don’t want to force her, I want her to choose in her own mind.”
“Look Alpha David, I know she would make a great Alpha but you know as well as I do that in her decision making she will take into consideration your son’s feelings she knows how hard he has worked for this.”
And the Goddess knows that Tom has a long way to go to be a great Alpha.Of course Amelia is smart, she has great negotiating skills and she is good at communication but affect plays too big a role in her decision making. That’s why I was surprised when she decided to execute Jenny without a second thought.
After a short pause, Alpha David answers me. “I know that, which is why I would like you to take the time to talk to her and reassure her that if she decides to do it, I will talk to Tom.”
“I won’t bother you any further, the girls and Alec should be here any minute.” He says to me.
I say goodbye to him in turn and we hang up.
I thought Amelia would take the time to talk to him but I can’t blame her, she’s still in shock from everything she’s learned recently. Talking to the pack psychologist, Dr. F. will do her good.
I plunge it back into my files, when a smell, which I recognise only too well, fills my nostrils. She doesn’t have time to knock on the door for me to open it for her.
I take her in my arms and kiss her as if we had been separated for too long.
She finally breaks the kiss.
“I need to breathe.” She breathlessly tells me with a smile. “I missed you too.”
“No more than I did.” I tell her with my best smile.
We stand there for a while, hugging each other just enjoying being together.
I finally drag her with me, all the way behind my desk, I sit down and she sits on my lap.
“So how did it go at the Night Pack?” I finally ask her.
“It was fine. I got to spend some time with my mum. And I saw Tom.” She sighs. “I told you what he told me and I honestly don’t know what to make of it. I have a gut feeling that tells me not to trust him.” She tells me with a concern.
“I understand but don’t get too worked up. It’s up to him to prove to you that you can trust him again.” I kiss her on the head.
She nods. And after a pause she asks me.
“Where can I contact the shrink? I’d like to check with him when I can meet him.”
“You have an appointment with her tomorrow at 2pm. I took the liberty of contacting her since we had discussed it. In the morning we train.”
“We train?” She asks me in surprise.
“Well, I thought that if you were going to follow me into battle against my advice again, I should at least make sure that you were well trained.” I reply.
