Chapter 1 (The Beginning)
(The beginning)
Some people told me my life was perfect but to me it isn’t. When I was young my parents fought a lot and I never really knew why. I remember one day when my friends were supposed to come over, and right when we walked through the door my parents were fighting. I felt so embarrassed that I didn’t even want to go to school the next day. When I got to school everyone was staring at me but I’m not even sure if it was because of what my friends saw. Maybe I was just nervous.
One day when I was twelve, I was getting ready for school and didn’t feel very well but I didn’t tell my mom because I had a big test that day. My head was hurting but I just took some medicine and went to school. Everything was fine at first until lunch. I was just sitting talking to my friends when my vision went blurry and my ears were ringing. My head was hurting like crazy now. I asked my teacher if I could go to the nurse but by the time I got there it was like I was going crazy. The nurse called my mom after I told her what was going on.
After waiting for forty five minutes my mom showed up, but when she walked in she looked frustrated and annoyed. She was on the phone with my dad arguing again. “Come on Mia.” My mom screamed as she continued to argue with my dad. When I stood up something wasn’t right I felt dizzy, and then everything went black.
"My baby. Somebody call 911!” My mom screamed as she dropped her phone and ran over to me.
When I woke up I was in the hospital with my mom and dad standing over me in tears. It was the first time they weren’t arguing and I was getting attention from them both. “We’re so sorry we should have paid more attention to you” both my parents cried out as the doctor walked in. I didn’t understand what was going on. It wasn’t like I was dead or I was dying, but little did I know I was about to find out some news that would change my life forever.
The doctor cleared his throat and said “ I have some good and bad news for you. The bad news is that your daughter has a brain tumor.”
My parents looked at the doctor and started crying harder. I couldn’t believe my ears, and I’m sure my parents couldn’t either. I have always been healthy. Every time I went to the doctor for a check up they said I was healthy, and now I find out I have cancer.
“But however” The doctor said. “ There is a way for it to be treated. Right now it isn’t as big, and it’s good that we caught it early.”
“First we will have to do plenty of treatment and she will be on lots of medications.” My doctor added.
“Well will she be okay at school? What if me and her dad aren’t around?” My mom asked with fear.
“She should be fine, just make sure her school has her medication as well in case she has a seizure or something.” The doctor answered.
“Seizure!” My mom screamed.
“ Yes, but it is preventable as long as she takes her medicine.” Replied the doctor.
Ever since that day my life hasn’t been the same. My parents barely fight anymore and I’m getting all the attention. I’m pretty much being treated like a baby by my parents. Sometimes I’d actually wish they’d go back to fighting. My school knows my sickness, but I didn’t tell my friends because I don’t want them to think I’m weird. But you think my sickness is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. After I turned thirteen my parents got divorced, and I had to stay with my mom. My dad moved to Texas, and now I can’t even see him in person anymore. The only way I could talk to him was through a phone. My mom barely even wanted me to talk to him.
I may have thought my parents were giving me all the attention, but it turns out when I wasn’t around or when I was asleep my parents got into big fights. I still don’t even know what they fought for. I guess they just don’t get along.
A couple of months after my parents divorce my mom told me we were moving to Atlanta. She had got a new job that pays more than the one she already had. That meant I had to leave all of my friends and other people that I’ve known for years. That also meant that I’d have to meet new people, and go to a totally different school. She thought I would be happy but I was actually furious.
Two weeks later we moved. The city was nice, but the vibe was different. The buildings and expensive cars were nice and pretty, but It wasn’t as quiet. Our house was smaller than our old one, and it only had two bedrooms with one bathroom. I barely even had space in my room, but mom said it was only “temporary”.(The beginning)
