Hell's Laughter

I’m falling. My stomach convulses at the sudden loss of ground beneath my feet. Cold wind blows past me turning my blood to ice, and I can hear the maniacal laughter, the sound of pure joy fading into the distance. I’d scream if I had any breath to give. He pushed me. He pushed me and he laughed.

Clouds cover the moon, and erase the stars. The only light I can see is the shrinking glow of the castle window. My arms flail through the air in front of me, still grasping for that window’s edge that now is much too far away.

I can still feel the spot on my chest where he hit me—where he pushed me hard enough to make me tumble backwards into open sky. His hand print burns where it touched my skin. I can still see the violent glint in his eyes the moment he considered it, the smirk when he did it. The light is so small now.

Everything goes black. And this…this must be hell. Because I can still hear that laughter.

William Elliott Kern: Andrew, I felt the terror of the hospital fire, the loss of lives, the hospital closed for some 30 plus years, and now, a girl is seen in the upper floors, which opens the religious aspect to your story, faith in what? overall i enjoyed the story, the progression and character development and th...

elssxa: I love everything about this story. I want more...more...more. This author is superb. I am fascinated by his amazing work. I give him five stars.

DarkWolf .12: Very interesting plot! Had me up for the entire night. Keep up the good work 👍

William Elliott Kern: Long story, the plot uncovered midway through the story. From beginning, the story was fast moving. Then dragged on for quite some time. The Author was good in describing her characters, their clothing, etc. but a lot of that disclosure distracted from the story moving fast. Not withstanding, the...

Lacey Eder: The stories remind me of the chilling 2 sentence stories on Reddit. Creepy, but not too scary and short. There were a couple of spelling errors throughout, which probably should've been taken care of beforehand. But, if this were available on Kindle Unlimited for $1-5, I'd consider buying it then.

Nishant Jain: I felt as if i am watching a movie, not reading a book. The story was definitely interesting. It was more of action than horror for me. There are a few grammatical and spelling errors I came across and at times I found it difficult to imagine some things which the author is trying to convey, but o...

Jason Phang: I'm pretty new to Inkitt (this is only my 4th book) and I must say I've been thoroughly impressed by the quality of the authors here. Remnants of Chaos is an excellently written book that hooks the reader, and doesn't let go. There are some grammatical and typographical errors, but nothing too se...

iann4701: I'm no expert but I know when I have read a good book and this was one. From the beginning it had me wondering where it was going next and what the outcome would be. If you fancy a read with a slightly different perspective from the norm then I would certainly give this book a read. I will look o...

Alex Rushmer: Wow. I really don't think I came into this story prepared. This caught me completely off-guard, but not in a bad way. It was so bizarre yet so entertaining that I was drawn in right away, especially after I realized that the initial scene was only a fantasy. This story was a little too graphic fo...

Tony Lee: Great ideas. Some mistakes here and there, but not too much to break the immersion :) This was my second book here, and I'm pretty satisfied! Well I can't think of anything else to write so I'm just gonna fill the space up with random words. Magazine holder sidney sheldon first bible shack tom ha...

Patrick Zac: The story, pacing, characters, and style was good. However the punctuation mistakes really threw me off. Other than that though the actual story is solid.

MusketeerAdventure: Well - I really enjoyed this very much! The whole idea of a shared haunting really intrigues me. I thought you did a wonderful job; and I really liked the idea of hearing from the first ghost's point of view. It would be interesting to read more about these two - and the ghost-busters that inf...
