Prologue

It is too empty in here. Too cold. Too hollow.

They sit in the next room—tired, wired and scared. One talks, one grunts, one cries and the other is silent. I wish they were all more like the silent one. The sounds the loud ones make grate on me. To say it is like having an itch one can't scratch is inaccurate, but how else could I describe it so you would understand? I wouldn't know, would I? I'm not like you.

It's getting close to the end now, so I will not have to listen to them soon. I can depart this place. I can leave the only half-interesting person here to her ascent. I can return home to plead against being sent out on similar jobs to be denied again. Soon after, I'll find another festering stink hole full of fervent, sweaty, hypocritical believers and I will sell it again.

Just think of me as a sort of traveling salesman—lonely, overworked and archaic.

ArgyrisMetaxas: Thrilling story which builds layer ontop of layer. A few mis spellings every few chapters. What I found special was that it took a modern day problem and took it to its logical conclusion and plays this realism with gritting precision. I'm always on edge ready to shout from adrenaline. This is gr...

farziex3: I think this novel is perfect because it had erotic, romance, and towards the end was a twist so I was just on the edge of my seat reading this book. It was honestly really amazing. I haven't found a book I actually liked to read for almost 2-3 years and this was a great book to start off. Makes ...

borkarprasad: Story was overall a good experience. I liked that the truth unraveled slowly and kept me in edge every time I changed the chapter. I would love to read more volumes to this legacy and be glad to read it from a published book. Great work!!!!!!!!!

C.K. Bachman: Just read the first chapter. Love how the main character thinks and is conflicted over his wife and the trickery he uses on her.

Lydia Sherrer: I first read The Speaker almost a decade ago when I first discovered author Sandra Leigh. I loved it then, and I still love it now. It is a simple, easy read, yet deep in meaning and rich in storyline. I do not know what kind of research or prior knowledge Leigh has of First Nation tribes, but sh...

OpheliaJones: This story took a different kind of spin on the "normal girl lives with definitely not normal guy" plot. The plot points of Frey's father, Liam's family, and Frey's view of Liam's world were good to read. She did not fall in love with him in the first couple weeks. Their lives were not smooth in ...

Jacklyn Reynolds: As a mother of an Autistic child, I know how hard it can be. I love how beautiful you made everything. That's all I can say. I need to grab a tissue.

noelia herrera: I could not stop reading this book. it was truly great and it caught my attention quick. there was some misspelled words and some misplaced. but overall, IT WAS FANTASTIC! great job. I recommended this book to all my family and friends.

Cat32: I enjoyed the good versus evil aspect of this novel, especially as the protagonist has to discover how to access that good to save his family. I sat down to begin reading this story, and only put it down long enough to eat with the family! the book does an excellent job of building the suspense, ...

Shadows: 50 seconds into this story, I already loved it. I could not put it down, it was such a page-turner. I would rate it infinity stars if I could.

Alicia Cameron: Wow, this story had me hooked from the beginning. There were so many plot twists, just when J.T. thought he'd won, something else happened. You're a very creative writer, and I don't know if this was your first story but it's well done.

Alex Rushmer: I just read the first two chapters of this story and really enjoyed it. I have to admit......I have a real problem with insects, especially nasty ones like what are in this story. I don't think that I'll read any more, but I did like what I read. It was interesting seeing different instances in w...

Marimar Amieva: Although I found the vampire thing a bit too much, I couldn't stop reading it. The story had a bit of everything: mystery, romance, a huge plot twist and relatable characters. I congratulate the author for this story and hope to read more of whatever he writes.

lopezmariana97: I loved everything about this book. I read it in a weekend because it was so hard to put down. I real liked that it wasn't a typical demon story and that It didn't involve vampires. I pictured the cast for this book if it ever becomes a movie. 100% love

Emperor2000: I joined Inkitt and downloaded this book following a friend who has been on here sometime recommending it. After they spoke about it a bit, I thought why not give it a go. Initially I only expected to read a few chapters, as I have little time to spend reading (not as much as I like). However I c...
