The Collector

Be careful not to feel any emotion, whether negative or positive, too strongly, or He will take an interest in you. If He does take an interest in you, then there's a good chance that you will become His puppet. His name is the Collector. If you feel like you're being watched, don't feel relieved when you don't see anyone because that doesn't mean that He's not there…watching and waiting. He could be anyone around you, even your dog or the spider on the wall. Of course, He'll never let you become aware of Him past feeling as if you're being watched. If He does want you, then you'll never be safe. It'll only be a matter of time before He comes for you and takes you away.

He'll come in the form of your girlfriend or your boyfriend coming to pick you up for your date. You'll notice small differences, but nothing you think to worry about. As you're taken further and further away from the city, however, you start to panic and wonder where you're going, but He'll give you some reassuring words and you'll forget your fear. Most do anyway. Few notice the subtle gleam of victory in His eyes, but those that do become unnerved and stay worried. Once the car stops past the city limits in some deserted stretch of highway, the panic returns. You turn to ask why you are there, only to find that your girlfriend/boyfriend has become a completely different person…literally.

Those few souls that have escaped Him say that He has flawless alabaster skin, golden hair tied back in a braid, and gorgeous sapphire eyes (those that are sane enough to describe Him that is). His looks stun you just as much as the fact that it's not your date sitting beside you, even though they were the ones that had driven you out there. The screams only start when He grabs your arms and red tentacles of light flow out of Him and begin to slowly engulf you. Once they've got you, it's nearly impossible to escape, and if you don't escape now then you will never escape Him. The light fully swallows you, and suddenly vanishes. Instead of being in the oh-so-familiar car of your lover, you are now strapped, eagle-spread, to a large bed in a foreign room. Your fear and panic fully consume you, but it will do you no good. He is standing beside the bed, running His hands up and down your side gingerly.

His hand goes up to your throat and you see the twisted smile on His handsome face as He feels your heartbeat against His palm. Your screams die down as a strange light starts glowing just under your field of vision, and you realize that they are dying down because your voice is vanishing. The ball of light is brought into your view and then He puts it into a doll version of you.

You open your mouth to scream as the doll screams with your voice, but no sound escapes your throat. "Silence, my puppet." He commands, and your mouth closes of its own accord. The fear wells up inside of you without an outlet as you slowly realize that your body is under His control more than it is under yours. He unties you and strokes your hair like you would a friendly dog's, all the while smiling that twisted smile of His. "You're mine, all mine. My doll, my puppet, my vessel of emotion…forever." You see it in the mirror then, His mark: the black circle around your neck with an X on your windpipe. There is nothing you can do once you've been marked. From now until the end of time, you are His and only His. Enjoy your new life, my latest unsullied doll…

Resting-Madness: I've been in love that strongly, that I could see myself in the same situation as Surgio. The slow crawl of desperation was well depicted, I could feel myself leaning close to the screen, like he and I were conspiring together on how to construct this Frankenstein of Adela. And that's written thr...

Ben Gauger: Kudos to Bryan Laesch, author of Remnants of Chaos:Chaotic Omens for his use of the Gothic style of writing and in addition the footnotes and endnotes at the end of each chapter, a welcome accompaniment to be sure, though his use of grammar could use a little improving, but his use of punctuation...

AJDay: Hello JaimePAvane,So, this is my first review on this site, and I am glad I found your story. I like where you are going with it and I am curious to see what future chapters look like. skippybash12: This story has engaging characters that you care about and a plot that is unpredictable and exciting. It is well written with a believable voice. Great weekend escape and if there was a sequel available I would buy it today -

Kiz16: After a truly shocking start to the story, I found the style and content slowed down as the author introduced a varied group of characters who I thought were fleshed out very well. After a slow couple of chapters, I found this story difficult to leave with the tension growing within the house. Yo...

Ali Albazaz: I started reading "Caged" few hours ago and I'm on chapter 7 now. Caged is definitely one of the most addictive stories I've ever read. Thank you so much for writing this novel.

Shelley Miller: The ideas and the set up and this are amazing! The feel of the story goes from science fiction to horror to suspense all in a big, thrilling ball. I really like your character so far and her powers and the idea of the ark being a person. The world is intense and gritty and clever as well. While a...

Ben Gauger: Kudos go to Karissa, author of Elements Of Engagement, an otherwise dark and twisted tale of love and workplace intrigue, very 'Fifty Shades of Grey' to be sure, her writing style being very graphic ad otherwise sexually-charged, hence the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' reference, and as for her use of g...

Alex Rushmer: I like the intrigue that you introduce from the very beginning of the story. The idea of the girl waking up in the alley with no memory of how she got there and with injuries is very interesting. It was very well done. There were a lot of grammatical errors that need to be fixed though. I think t...

Alex Reltin: This is a great story! I love how well you go into detail and emotions of Capri, and Mel. You have amazing dialogue and overall it's just a thrill to read! The only critique I could find is that some of the paragraphs should be separated.
