Chapter 1

PRESENT

Diane POV

After school, I was walking down the street, heading to work like I normally did and the wind hit my face but it was a very soothing feeling. I felt relieved being out of my hellhole I call home.

After I made it to the fancy restaurant I work at, I walked in and clocked in. Tying my hair up nicely in a bun, I started to take people’s orders and then served their food but then a guy walked in and sat down at a table alone.

I wonder why he came here alone instead of bringing someone with him.

I walked over to his table and then got my paper and pen out, smiling at him softly.

“Hello sir.,” I said. “What drink would you like to order?”

“I would like to order water.,” he said.

“Okay.,” I said. “Is that all?”

“I also would like to talk to you after you give me my drink.,” he said, smiling at me.

I nodded in agreement and then walked away, trying to process what just happened. I got his drink and then walked back to him, putting a smile on my face. Giving the drink to him, I immediately sat down and looked at him while he drank his water.

“So what did you want to talk about?,” I asked.

“Well, I’m doing a newspaper article about why have the job that they have.,” the man said, smiling.

“Oh okay!,” I said, smiling awkwardly.

He started asking me questions and I answered them very honestly because I wanted to be very truthful to him, even though I didn’t know him. After he was done asking me questions, he paid the check and then gave me twenty dollars, walking out of the restaurant but then stopped and slowly turned to me.

“I have one more question for you.,” he asked. “Do you eat meat?”

“Yes I do.,” I said.

“Okay.,” he said. “That is all.”

That’s a strange question. What did meat have to do with the newspaper article?

I watched the guy walked away and tried to process what had just happened. I shook my head and continued my shift at the restaurant, not knowing what would happen to me after my shift today.

*at 5:30pm*

After I was finished with my shift at work, I left the restaurant and started to walk home but then a white van pulled up next to me and honked, startling me. The car made a sudden stop and I stopped walking, slowly turning around. The front door window rolled down, revealing a man in the car. My eyes immediately started to widen.

Oh my god, it’s the guy from the restaurant. What the fuck does he want?

“Hey, do you need a ride.?,” the man asked.

“No thank you.,” I said. “I’m fine.”

He stopped the car and opened the door, slowly getting out of the car. He slammed the door and started to walk towards me but I started to run away from him but I wasn’t quick enough and he tackled me to the ground. Then, he pulled a syringe out of his pocket and injected me with it, sedating me. My eyes started to feel heavy and I tried to fight it but all I could see was darkness.

The next day, I woke up with a huge headache and slowly sat up, groaning in pain. Everything that happened the day before came flooding back to me and I looked around to see what my surroundings looked like but then the door opened, startling me.

“W-who is there?,” I stuttered, looking at the door. “Show yourself.”

A group of people walked out of the darkness and smiled at me like I’m apart of their group or whatever they called themselves. A girl came over to me and sat next to me, removing some of my hair out of my face.

“She’s cute.,” the boy said. “Is she my girl, dad?”

“Of course she is.,” his dad said.

“What is your name?,” another boy said, smiling at me.

“I’m Diane.,” I said. “Who are you guys?”

“I am Ethan.,” one of the boys said, walking over to me. “And you are my girl. My wife.”

Wife? What the fuck is going on? I don’t want to be his goddamn wife! Is this some sick joke?!

“I am Dre.,” the second boy said. “I’m Ethan’s younger brother.”

“And I am Milena.,” the girl said.

“My name is Anthony.,” the father said. “Welcome to your new home.”
