A Brush With Death
As I hold my little sister, I look to my parents' room. I don’t know why, but the complete and utter darkness that swelled that single room always frightened me. But this time, as I look over, I see a shadowy figure standing in the room. It wasn’t my parents, for they were in the room with me and my other siblings. There was no one else in the house. I could barely make out the figure through the darkness, but there were three things I couldn’t miss. The first was that he appeared to be darker than his surroundings, which seemed impossible since the room was already pitch black. The second and third things were his eyes and mouth. His eyes were an unreal bright white, with small, round pupils. His smile had a similar coloring, except it was unnaturally wide. It appeared as if the skin of his cheeks had been cut and peeled away, giving him a smile that spanned across his entire face, sending shivers down my spine. I knew Death was coming for me, but I hoped i could time it so my disappearance would be brushed off as a trip or vacation. He was here, and I knew he didn’t like to wait. I handed my sister to my mom, and told her I had to leave early for a school trip i was supposed to be taking in a few days. I then sprinted past my parents room and outside into the garage, hearing him follow me the entire way. As i walked across the garage, Death grabbed my arm, spun me around so I was facing him, and pulled me close. He bent down and whispered in my ear, his low, smoky voice making me shiver. “Now, my love, doesn’t it seem like a wonderful day for a stroll among the dead?”
