DAY TEN TO DAY THIRTEEN

THE CRYPT

Corey and her friends snuck out of the hotel before any had woke. The four friends walked across the long stretch of Ghostly Hill to the Burial Ground.

‘You sure about this Corey?’

‘I’m sure come on.’

Hannah looked at Dempsey, and Courtney. They all nodded. She looked back at Corey. ‘Okay, but any weird shit happens in there we’re gone.’

‘Cross my heart hope to die.’ She said drawing a cross over her chest. ’Now come on.

They followed Corey over the uneven ground of the Burial Ground to its Crypt. A bricked box shape with a wooden door.

‘You really sure about this Corey?’

‘Yes. Now come on.’ She said pushing the door open.

It creaked making them jump back. ‘Come on guys it’s an old door, need oiling that’s all.’

‘If you’re sure.’

‘I am, come on.’

They all followed suit into the darkness of the Crypt, Corey sparked her lighter lighting one of the many lanterns lighting the way down the uneven stairs to the unknown. It sparked all the other lanterns. She swallowed. ‘Come on, let’s take a closer look.’

‘Shouldn’t we wait until the others come down?’

‘Nagh come on.’

‘Okay.’

She followed the stairs down her friends following her down the uneven steps.

The stale stench of the dead rose with every step they took, hairs stood on the backs of their necks as they continued to follow the stairs down into the Crypt. Shivers passing down their spines.

‘I don’t like this place.’

‘Me neither.’

‘Can we go back now?’

‘In a while, lets just take a look round first.’

They stepped into the Crypt a fire lantern in each corner lighting the room, and the tombs.

’Wow take a look at these guys, they’re like thousands of years old.

‘That’s really interesting Corey. Can we go now?’

‘Okay.’ She huffed, turning walking over to them.

They made their way back out of the Crypt and up the stairs, a black misted shadow engaged out of one of the tombs stalking them.

Corey opened the door and was the first out, followed by Dempsey, and Courtney. The door closed leaving Hannah alone in the darkened stair well trying to get out. ‘Guys, guys.’ She said banging frantically on the locked door.

They all turned. ‘Hannah.’

The shadow over cast her, she turned, a skeleton structured face stared back at her. She screamed.

‘Hannah!’ Her friends screamed frantically trying to open the door.

Her flesh peeled away, her blood and energy sucked away. Into the corpse.

Her lifeless drained body lay on the ground a skeleton left outside the entrance of the Crypt.

‘What are we going to do Corey?’

‘Come back tomorrow.’

‘What if she’s dead?’

‘Yeah Corey. What if something in there killed her?’

‘Don’t talk shit.’ She paused. ‘Come on we best be getting back.’

‘What are we going to tell them Corey?’

‘Nothing.’

‘Bu..’

‘But nothing come on.’

They sighed following Corey away from the Crypt and away from the Burial Ground.

What was she going to say she couldn’t lie any more she’d have to return tomorrow maybe they were somewhere she hadn’t looked.

Corey had snuck out of the hotel before everyone had woke. She walked across the long stretch of Ghostly Hill to the Burial Ground.

She walked over the uneven ground of the Burial Ground top its Crypt. A bricked box shape with a wooden door. Corey opened the door. ‘Come on let’s find Hannah and get back to the Hotel.’

Corey sparked her lighter lighting one of the many lanterns lighting the way down the uneven stairs to the unknown. It sparked all the other lanterns.

She followed the stairs down her friends following her down the uneven steps.

The stale stench of the dead rose with every step they took, hairs stood on the back of her neck as they continued to follow the stairs down into the Crypt. Shivers passing down their spines.

They stepped into the Crypt a fire lantern in each corner lighting the room, and the tombs.

She circled the lanterns around the Crypt, three skeletons laid in each of the corners. She walked cautiously over to them she knelt down in front of the first her hands shaking picking up student tag. Her shaken hand over her mouth, tears rolling down her face, why had Dempsey been so right.

Three shadows over cast her, she turned looking directly at the three frialed structured faces that glowed in her lantern. She screamed dropping the lantern. Falling forward as she tried to escape from the Crypt and it’s protectors. She ran up the stairs to the door she tripped. The door slammed shut as she pulled herself to her feet making her way toward it.

The shadows over cast her, she turned, a skeleton structured face stared back at her. She screamed.

Her flesh peeled away, her blood and energy sucked away. Into the corpse.

Her lifeless drained body lay on the ground a skeleton left outside the entrance of the Crypt.

‘Is everyone here?’

‘We’re missing Corey.’

‘Great.’

‘Cant we go?’

‘Not with out her no.’

‘Maybe we’ll find her on the way there.’

Caitlin looked at Adam who nodded. ‘Okay class lets go.’

They all walked out of out of the hotel heading through the clearing past the Black Magic Church.

‘Right guys the Crypt is very dark so I will be lighting the lanterns so we can see our way down to the Crypt. Any questions?’

‘What, and whose tombs are down there?’

‘Good question. They date back over two thousand years, and we’re not quiet sure of the pacific dates we didn’t find any last time we were here. Try and be careful the stair case is a little uneven. When we get down into the Crypt just write down the inscriptions, no touching remember the tombs are very old so have a little respect for your history please.’

‘Right guys you heard Adam let’s go.’

The class followed Adam, Caitlin in the centre, the Principle last. This place brought back bad memories for Caitlin and the others like so many other places in Ghostly Hill. Who would die today? She wondered as Adam opened the door. ‘Right guys watch your step.’ Adam said lighting the first of the lanterns on the wall, lighting the others as he stepped down the staircase the others following him. ‘Strange one missing.’

They all followed suit taking every step with caution. ‘Right guys take a look around, and remember what I said treat the tombs with a little respect.’ He said walking into the Crypt. They all looked around the Crypt writing down the inscriptions on off the tombs. Simone tripped. ‘Hey what the...’ She knelt down looking at the lantern. ‘Hey Adam, Caitlin come over here and take a look at this.’

They walked over to Simone. ‘What is it Simone.’

‘I tripped up and found this.’ She said holding up the lantern.

‘Where did you get it?’

‘Right here.’

Adam edged forward shining the lantern into each of the corners of The Crypt. A skeleton in each, taking the I.D. of the first in his hand swallowing.

He held each one with caution swallowing at each and every one.

‘What is it Adam?’

‘I fear we have found your missing students.’

‘NO!’

‘Sorry.’ He looked over the Crypt at the saddened faces almost in disbelief that their friends had entered the Crypt alone and it had taken them.

‘Sorry but we’ve got to head back.’

They said nothing following Adam out of the crypt. He looked back at Caitlin. ‘Are you okay?’

‘Yeah thanks.’

‘Come on let’s get the kids back to the Hotel.’

‘Come on kids we’ll resume tomorrow. I think that we’ve all see way too much for one day.’

They took every step with caution heading out of the crypt. Adam closed the door of the Crypt behind them. ‘Are you sure that you’re okay?’

‘Yeah, let’s just get back.’

‘Right class come on.’

They walked away from the Crypt, across the Burial Ground heading back to the hotel.

Caitlin walked up the stairs disappearing.

‘Is she going to be okay?’

‘Five years ago, not as bad but it happened.’

‘I’ll go and see how she is.’

‘Leave her be. I’m sure Joe will reassure her.’

Caitlin closed the door of her room, dropping to the bed. Joe entered the room closing the door behind him. ‘Back so soon?’

‘Mmh.’

He walked over to her sitting on the edge of the bed. ‘What’s wrong babe?’ He said gliding his hand down her face. She flinched. ‘Cat!’

She looked at him. ‘Did you kill them Joe?’

‘Who?’

‘Corey, Hannah, Dempsey, and Courtney?’

‘No. Why?’

‘Their skeletons were found down in the Crypt.’

‘I’m sorry.’

‘Are you?’

‘Yes babe. I am.’ He looked at her. ‘I love you Cat. And I swear on your life I did not kill those kids.’

She looked at him could she trust him he’d killed so many before, how many was he going to kill now?

Trust me Cat I did not kill those kids and I’m truly sorry for what ever killed them down their and you finding them.’

She looked into his dark eyes. He leaned forward pressing his lips on hers kissing her.
