Summary

It's summertime in the small town of Dayton in central Minnesota. Two boys are walking across a vacant lot when they come across a small ball. The ball draws the boys in, like bugs to a bug light, with dazzling changing colors and some kind of strange power that reaches into their souls causing them to desire it like nothing ever before. The ball beckons them, wanting to be touched, so that it can trap them forever. The call of The Beckoner is strong...and deadly, two things that attract men of power. Men who want to control it, to use it for their own purposes. But The Beckoner will not be controlled. It has only one purpose - to feed its hunger for more souls.
