Goodnight

It’s coming up the stairs.

Slowly, with each step it’s growing closer.

I can hear its laboured breathing, accented by the creaking the stairs make with each heavy step.

Soon it will be at the top of the stairs and right outside my door.

There is nowhere to run.

I’m lying in bed bathed in a cold sweat attempting to stifle my breath, hoping that it won’t hear me through the crack in my open door.

I can see the lights in the hallway flicker as it passes by the standing lamp.

It’s reached the top.

I’m frantically looking around my bed side table for something to defend myself but there is nothing; the book I was reading and my water glass are all that’s there.

It’s at my door now.

Slowly my door is beginning to open and the light from the hallway bathes my room in light, save the darkest corner of my room behind the door which stays hidden.

I’ve covered my head with my blanket.

I can’t see this coming.

I can feel the tears running down my face.

I can feel my breath and my heart pounding faster than ever before.

I can hear the steps towards my bed.

Oh god…oh god no please. I’ll do anything.

I’ll do anything.

Please please please I don’t want to die…

It is sitting on my bed.

It’s placed a hand on my side.

“Are you asleep?” it asked me.

I held my breathe.

I swallowed hard.

I don’t want to die……I don’t want to die….

“Your dad and I talked…and I think we’re going to hold off on Military School for a little while. He’s come around to seeing my side for the time being.”

I didn’t dare turn to face it.

After a long minute it stood up and walked to the door, turning back to me.

“I love you kiddo, I’m your Mom and I’m always going to fight for you…don’t worry.”

It shut the door and slowly walked away.

I can hear it opening the door down the hall.

Its shut the door.

In an instant I sat straight up and wiped the tears from my face.

I got out of bed walked to the door shut it softly and locked it.

I turned to the darkest spot of the room.

“What now?” I asked my real mother who was still crouched in the darkest part of the room hiding.

"We run." She said with tears in her eyes

Noelle Anselmo: Jesus H Christ! When I saw this was a genderbent I though it was just gonna be the two main characters, but I was so wrong and I LOVED IT! I had no clue where you were going with it, and I was waiting for the make up, was dreading the possibility of not making up, and just how you had the story u...

rajastreet: I enjoyed this piece! I loved the treatment of time and the premise! Some of the wording seemed a little out of place, but easily overlooked for a good a plot.

ernbelle: When I first started this story I was a little unsettled by all of the information that appears in the prologue, and wasn't sure if I would continue. However, I am very glad I did. The plot was very well thought out and really interesting. There were not any page breaks or markers to acknowledge ...

: The book was hella great. You never know what's going to happen next. There's a lot of clues that shows to the next scene. I thought Miley and David would marry each other in this book but too my disappointment, they didn't. I have a ques. Will there be a part two to this book?

ianwatson: The comedy is original and genuinely funny, I have laughed out loud many times reading this book. But the story and the plot are also really engaging. The opening two or three chapters seem quite character-dense but they all soon come to life and there is no padding, filling or wasted time readin...

aeratheninja: Interestingly enough, this story touches on different psychological states and was very informing, on top of being a solid story. Although somewhat predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this; I could feel the fear and the frustration of the characters, and was happy when they were happy.Even ...

Dave Allen: Well-rounded. well-detailed story. Bull's done a thorough job developing her characters. An intriguing read!

Deleted User: This is a very clever story in the style of 19th century (and turn of the century) Gothic writing, very reminiscent of Stevenson's The Body Snatchers or even of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (less so of Frankenstein itself, since the author is more minimalist than Shelley's florid, Romantic rhetoric). ...

skippybash12: This story has engaging characters that you care about and a plot that is unpredictable and exciting. It is well written with a believable voice. Great weekend escape and if there was a sequel available I would buy it today -

I definitely did.It does, however, address a more adolescent public than the above-mentioned book.I enjoyed the story and finished it in a few days. The overall situation on earth an...
