Chapter Nineteen - “No One Will Touch You.”

Harriet’s P.O.V

Looking at the list from Tyler’s Uncle, I look back at the liquor shop that is just beside us. Is Tyler even old enough to buy alcohol, I think to myself as I glance back at Tyler.

“How is this going to work?” I ask, folding the list up and placing it on my legs. Tyler looks over at me and raises his eyebrow, obviously confused about my question.

“What do you mean?” Tyler asks, a small grin on his face as he waits for my response.

“Well, one: I don’t even think you’re old enough to get your hands on alcohol. Two: are you going to leave me in the car because I feel like this area is really sketchy and there are a few men standing around that liquor shop and they look pretty out of it so if you leave me, I don’t know what will happen. And that one guy with the hat is looking at me like food and I’m getting really uncomfortable so I really don’t want you to leave me alone in--”

Tyler laughs, cutting me off from my rambling, which I’m thankful for. “Stop stressing. In this area, I’m legal to buy alcohol and you can come with me if you want. No one will touch you.” Tyler says and I smile, liking how he is helping me.

“Okay.” I say, opening the car door before pushing myself out, trying to balance myself with the heels. Tyler looks the car once I’ve closed the door and he walks over to my side, holding out his hand. Without hesitation, I grab it, the smile on my face growing as I walk towards the liquor shop with Tyler’s hand in mine.

The guy that I was talking about, with the hat, doesn’t stop looking at me and to be honest, even with Tyler close by my side, I am still slightly uncomfortable under his gaze. It’s the look that drunk people give you when they want you, or want to do something involving you. How I know? I saw that look a lot at the party I went to.

Yes, the party that I talked to Tyler at. I’ve never been to any other party in my life and from that experience, I don’t think I will ever go to one again.

When we walk into the store, the guy who is behind the counter sends us a smile, but I think it’s more directed to Tyler as I watch the guy’s hand raise in a greeting. “Hey man! How have you been?” The guy asks and Tyler looks over at him, a small grin on his face.

“Yeah, good. How about you? Still chasing Melody?” Tyler asks, earning a laugh from the guy. Since the store is quite small but has a lot of room for the alcohol, you can simply have a conversation with someone from the other side of the store and you won’t need to shout, which is basically what Tyler and that guy is doing now.

“You know it, dude. She’s a tough one though.” The guy says and Tyler nods, walking over to one of the shelves before grabbing two bottles of tequila, two bottles of red wine - before handing two bottles to me since he clearly doesn’t have enough hands to grab the alcohol he needs to grab - and lastly, two bottles of vodka. I don’t know how he is managing to carry four bottles but all I’m worried about is trying not to drop these two bottles in my own hands.

If you haven’t realised, I’m quite a clumsy person.

“What do you expect, Dean? I wouldn’t even go that far with you if I were a girl.” Tyler says as we walk over to Dean and I notice the grin on his face grow when he looks at me.

“What about her?” Dean asks, his eyebrow raising as he smirks.

Tyler places the bottles on the counter before looking over at me, grabbing the bottles out of my hands and placing them on the counter as well. “What about her?” Tyler asks and I notice the change in his tone. It’s much deeper, like he felt threatened by someone and I can’t help but think that he is either being protective of me or something much more complicated than that.

Dean looks over at me, the smirk on his face somehow growing. “Would you have sex with me?”

My eyes widen, completely mortified. I have never been one to even speak about such an intimate thing, let alone been asked about it. So, when those words came out of Dean’s mouth, all I could bring myself to say is, “No.”

“Lies,” Dean says, tilting his head up slightly as he begins to scan the bottles. “You’d totally fuck me. I mean, look at me.”

“You’re an ugly prick.” Tyler cuts in, crossing his arms over his chest as he glares at Dean. “Now drop the subject, yeah?”

Dean raises his eyebrows like he has just realised something. “Shit, you two are together?”

Just as I’m about to protest, Tyler grabs my hand and squeezes it softly. “Took you long enough to figure out.” Tyler says and I look up at him, furrowing my eyebrows. Tyler glances at me and sends me the quickest wink I’ve ever seen, telling me that he is only doing this for a reason, and I think it’s to get Dean to shut up.

My heart races at the thought of Tyler doing another thing to help me, but I don’t say anything. “Fuck, man, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean a word I said.” Dean says quickly, practically losing his confidence as he tries to gain Tyler’s respect. Tyler just rolls his eyes and let’s go of my hand to grab the alcohol that’s now in a bag.

“Just tell me how much it is.” Tyler says and Dean shakes his head, waving him off.

“No, just forget about it. It’s my way of apologising.” Dean says and Tyler raises his eyebrow, a small grin on his face.

“Really? Thanks, dude.” Tyler says as he grabs the alcohol. He reaches his other hand over to shake Dean’s hand and he goes for the hand shake almost instantly.

“No problem. I’ll talk to you later, yeah?” Dean asks and Tyler nods before walking out of the liquor store. Just as we walk out, I notice that the guy who was staring at me before we walked in is now gone, same with most of the other guys who were standing around not long ago. This doesn’t stop me from practically running to the passenger side of the car though.

When I get into the car, followed by Tyler who starts the car, I look at the list that’s now in my hands.

“What do we need to get next?” Tyler asks as I put my seat belt on.

“Meat.” I say, leaning back in the seat as I glance over at Tyler who has a grin on his face. Confused as to why he is grinning, I smile curiously. “Why are you grinning?”

“Because I feel like some fun, don’t you?”

A/N - I’m in love with this journey between Harriet and Tyler. I wish I can just have him all to myself... Anyway, if you liked the chapter, please vote and comment your thoughts!
