Chapter 11 || Karma Won't Save You Drama...

A deep sigh of relief escaped my mouth as I stepped out of the classroom, not necessarily because I’m glad that the lesson is over, but because I finally seem to understand Math. It seems like my graduation isn’t that much of miracle than I initially thought.

Although I already got accepted to my dream university, chances are that I fail to graduate and they’ll revoke their admission but after that little math session I’m that I will be able to handle everything.

I was about to reach the school’s entrance when I heard someone calling my name.

“Hey, Jessica.“, I turned around to see that it was Nico, one of Alex’ best friend along with Kai.

Nico and I spend a lot of time together when we were kids since Alex and him are inseparable. Back then, he and Kai were one of Alex few friends that I didn’t want to punch in the face every single time. Even though, they were pretty much like the three musketeers, Nico and Alex had always a stronger connection.

Nico has always been like a brother to me. He is one of those people to whom you can easily talk to no matter what and that’s something I totally admire him for. When the rumors about me started to spread like a wildfire, he never once believed what they said and never treated me differently.

It wasn’t until I started to behave like the major bitch that I was known for, when he started to distance himself from me which was totally understandable. Only when I become friends with Sofía and also got back into contact with Alex again he started to talk me.

I really screwed up since he is one of the most loyal people you will ever meet what I realized when it was already to late.

“Buon giorno, bella mia.“, he greeted me as he approached me. He must also take part in the math tutoring since he was holding a notebook in one hand, his chestnut brown hair was pretty much all over the place and he had huge rings under his hazel eyes.

“Finally someone I know who is as bad as me at math.“, I grinned as he hugged me.

“So, tell me, what’s new, Niccolo?”

“Ugh, stop. You know I hate it when you call me that.“, he shuddered. “To come back to your question, nothing really happened. Everything is as per usual. I’ll probably fail math and Alex and Jayla are annoying as ever.“, he shook his head and sighed. “I haven’t seen him in an eternity because our little princess is claiming him for herself since they got together. I couldn’t stand her back then and I still can’t. I can’t believe he chose her over you.”

I frowned at his comment. “Yeah because I have never been an option and I really don’t want to talk about it right now. I know I should have done something and I didn’t but constantly reminding me of it isn’t really helping.“, I replied more angrily than I intended to. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to hiss at you but it’s really starting to get on my nerves.”

“I understand. No need to apologize. Actually, it’s not entirely your fault. Alex could have done something too.“, I raised my eyebrow at his comment. “Honestly, we all are aware of the fact that there has always been something between you two. You know it, I do and Alex does as well. Both of you aren’t stupid nor oblivious to what is going on.”

“The thing is that there is no use in having intelligence if you aren’t brave enough to use is and that’s the reason why Alex never did anything. I know that he often uses his Mexican macho behavior to cover that up but deep inside he is still the little insecure nerd who got bullied in seventh grade for playing with Pokémon cards.”

I know that Nico is right but Alex wasn’t the only one who wasn’t brave enough...

“Alex will probably kill me if he finds out that I told you that but I’m sick of seeing both of you going in circles. I know our friendship suffered under everything that has happened but I know that you aren’t what people claim you to be and Alex deserves someone like you and not Jayla.“, he said as we exited the building and approached the parking lot.

I shrugged. “I know but he is with Jayla now and there is nothing I can do about.”

“I know him. He likes Jayla but he is not as happy as he could be, he just needs to figure that out first.”

“Nico?“, I grabbed his arm, stopping right in front of his car. “Yes ?”

“I’m sorry. I really am. I didn’t want us to lose contact and never talk to each other again. I just didn’t know what I was thinking and completely went nuts. That doesn’t justify my behavior, I know, but I want you to know that I valued as a friend and still do.”

A warm smile spread on his face when he came closer to me and pulled me into a hug. “As I already told you, it’s fine, okay ?”

I nodded and let go of him. “Are you going to the gala ?”

“I have to.“, he let out a laughter. “Alex bribed Kai and me to come because he needs moral support. Are you going ?”

“Yeah, but only because Jayla invited me.“, Nico stared at me in disbelief, blinking with his eyes.

“That was pretty much the same expression that I had on my face when Alex told me.“, I pointed at him.

“Do you think she is up to something ?“, he questioned me.

“I don’t know but I doubt it. She is pretty confident about her relationship with Alex, maybe she just wants to show me how happy Alex and her are. It used to be her little hobby when we were still young.”

“At first, I thought this was going to be boring but the drama I’m sensing right now makes me feel alive.“, he grinned like a little child.

“I hope that the universe will have mercy and spare me the drama.”

“I hope it won’t. I need the entertainment.”

“Thank you, I appreciate the support.“, I replied sarcastically.

“You behaved like a bitch, now it’s my turn.“, he winked at me smirking and got into his car.

I know that he was joking but my gut tells me that this isn’t going to be as funny as everybody claims it to be...
