chapter nine: tuesday

kit.

I already knew what Lucy was going to buy for me.. Well, It was also for her, but more for me. Arya told me she would be fine so I blindfolded Lucy after she got off of work and took her to the mall. The whole car ride was filled with tension, but I could barely conceal my excitement. I had won the bet, which was something I had not expected at all. And I was enjoying every single moment of it.

My excitement hit a wall when I almost left Lucy in the car because I just wanted to make it into the mall. I was taking her to one of my favorite restaurants, which ironically was a diner inside the mall. My dad would take me to it when I was younger and I just never stopped going.

“I swear to god, if you are taking me to buy lingerie, I will kill you, Kit,” She grumbled while I guided her to the entrance of the mall.

“While that would’ve been a great idea, which I’ll keep in mind for the next time we decide to do one of these bets, our first outing is going to be much more innocent,” I replied, making a mental note to keep her suggestion in mind. I pushed her through the rotating doors, the smell of meat hitting my nostrils like a bang.

“Kit! Honey, it’s been such a long time- what’s this? Please don’t tell me you’ve gotten into that BDSM thing and you’re bringing it into my restaurant,” Kaleigh, the diner’s owner and basically my mom by all intents and purposes, looked genuinely scared at the sight of the blindfolded Lucy.

“Kaleigh, meet Lucy.”

lucy.

The light literally blinded me as soon as Kit removed the blindfold from my eyes. I was immediately engulfed in a hug by someone who smelled like meat and cinnamon rolls, the latter being the predominant smell.

“This is the first time Kit has ever brought a girl here, you must be something special, darling,” The woman pulled back and, with my now accustomed eyes I saw who Kaleigh was. She looked to be in her early forties, her faced marked with lines that only made her look more beautiful because they showed she smiled a lot.

“I must be,” I mumbled back. Kit wrapped his arm around my shoulder and brought me into his side. I know it’s weird, I barely met this kid three days ago, but I already feel more comfortable around him than I have with people that I’ve known for years. Everything just felt right. I probably sound like I’m crazy but everything with him feels like it’s meant to be.

“Well, let’s get you two lovebirds a table,” Kaleigh winked at us and walked us over to a booth, placing two menus on the table telling us she’d be back son to get out orders if we were ready.

“So, you literally took me out of one diner, where I work by the way to bring me to another one,” I hoped my voice didn’t convey any disappointment because I was actually hoping he’d make me get some new lingerie because in the end he would have to pay for it, and God knows I’m in need of some new bras and panties.

“Yeah, sorry about taking you out of work, I was just really excited,” A smile lit up his face as he rubbed his neck nervously. “I chose this diner because I used to come here with my dad, when he was in the picture, and it’s one of my favorite places. I wanted to share that with you.” His eyes met mine, and fuck did I melt.

“I don’t know exactly why I wanted to share this place with you,” he continued, “and you’re probably going to think I’m crazy when I say this. Being buried alive was the best thing that ever could’ve happened to me. It brought you into my life and that’s something that I will always be grateful for.”

unknown.

The two kids were sitting the diner alone, and they had no idea someone was observing them. Much less that they were falling straight into a trap because of a fuck up that happened before either of them were born. Snapping a picture at every sign of a smile, at every reaction to a word spoken, the man observed them silently, and would wait silently, until it was the right time to pounce.
