"THAT'S SO ASSETIFYING," I said as I shook my head vehemently.
"Seriously? How is that assetifying, which I doubt is even actual word."
"Yes it a word. Babe implies that I'm a prize, something that can be owned or won by someone," I replied matter-of-factly. "I really hate that word but I loath baby even more."
Nick stood there quietly analysing me. "I guess.....I'm sorry?" he asked as he cocked his head to the side to look at me but I waved him off. "But technically, my room is painted black with gray strikes because the darkness soothes me," he said and sat down on the swivel chair at my desk. "Now do tell me why a bright student like yourself is still undecided in their senior year. I mean, don't you plan everything out to the bone?"
The actual answer to that wasn't something that I could so easily say, so instead I went with the somewhat true version.
"I don't plan everything out to the bone. I just take it step-by-step and day-by-day," I replied as I lookee anywhere but at him. "And there is nothing wrong with leaving my options open either."
"I never said there was one. I was just wondering."
"My dad was so proud of you when you said you wanted to study Criminal Law," I spoke, "I have never seen him look so happy other than when James got accepted into university. He really likes you after that."
"Parents love me, what can I say," he replied with a shrug. "C'mere," he said opening his arms out for me.
"Because.....I don't know, just because."
Nick cackled, "just come here, pretty please, for me?" he said pouting, "I've not seen you and I just want to hold you, is that so wrong?"
I stood up and walked towards him but then I just stood there looking at him weirdly.
"I thought I already told you I don't bite," he mused. "C'mere."
Before I could react, Nick had pulled me into him and I found myself sitting on his lap with my face buried in the crook of his neck.
His intoxicating smell engulfed me and like usual, I found myself inhaling it in.
"Are you smelling me again?" he asked.
"Actually yes I am," I answered as I inhaled his scent once more. "You smell really good."
"I'm starting to think that sniffing me is one of your many fetishes," he said laughing.
The sound of his laughter vibrated through his chest and I felt every inhale of air he took in.
"What can I say, your scent is intoxicating but in a good way."
"Maybe I should just buy you my cologne instead."
"I think this is my new favourite scent to fall asleep too," I said groggily.
I felt him stand up and place me on my soft comfortable bed before he wrapped the duvet over my body.
"I'll see you tomorrow," he whispered and placed a soft kiss on my forehead.
"Don't leave me," I whined clutching to his shirt, "stay with me until I fall asleep?"
"Such a rush to get me into your bed," he laughed.
Nick sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "I don't think that's a good idea," he said. "Your dad may like me but I don't think he'll like seeing me on the same bed as you."
"He'll get over it. Besides, it's just sleeping, now please?"
He sighed before he nodded his head and took off his jumper then lied on top of the duvet and pulled me into his chest.
I could feel his heart beating frantically and I couldn't help but smile at the thought that his heart rate increased just like mine did each time I'm around him.
"Are you asleep yet?" he whispered.
"If you keep asking me then I won't fall asleep," I answered as I nuzzled myself deeper into his chest.
The beating of his heart soothed my breathing and soon I found myself falling asleep to it. It was the first time I ever slept soundly.
"What is this?" I heard my dad's voice but I tuned it out and buried myself deeper in my pillow which for some odd reason felt rock solid.
"Alexis Erin Vance, wake up now and explain yourself," my dad's voice snapped me out of my slumber.
I slowly opened my eyes and let them adjust to the bright light pouring in from the window and through the curtains.
"What do you mean dad?" I asked still rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
I felt someone stir from bedside me and I looked down to find Nick staring at me with his forest green eyes and the realisation of everything finally dawned on me.
"It's not what it looks like dad," I said tossing the duvet onto the floor and rushing over to his side, "I swear we didn't do anything."
"I'm disappointed in you young lady," he said and shook his head before he walked out of my room looking utterly disappointed.
"What time is it?" I asked.
Nick turned on his phone and checked the time, "It's twenty past nine."
I sat at the edge of the bed and tagged at my hair in frustration.
Nick sat up at looked at me with concern clear in his eyes, "I'm sorry I fell asleep."
"It's not your fault. It's mine for insisting you stay in the first place," I answered honestly. "I'll be in the bathroom."
I grabbed some sweats from the closet then headed to the bathroom to take a shower and remove all the makeup.
When I got out of the bathroom, Nick was sat at the desk with Fallen in his hands.
"This is a good book," he said as he looked up from the page.
"It is. You should definitely watch the movie too, they really did the book justice," I answered with a smile.
He beamed and gave me a boyish grin."For you, I'll watch anything."
I rolled my eyes with a small smile. "Are you coming downstairs with me?" I asked instead
Nick stood up and placed the book back where it was before he walked up to me and intertwined our hands hands together. "Let's go," he smiled.
Together we descended downstairs into the kitchen where mum was sat at the island with a glass of ice tea and dad was nowhere in sight.
"Morning mum!" I said and let go of Nick's hand to find something to eat in the cabinet. "Where's dad or James?"
"Morning Alexis! I'm sure you had a lovely night," she said and I could detect the smirk in her voice. "James took Lisa back to the dorms, though I don't understand why considering she's got a fitting this afternoon and your dad is in his office."
"Is he that disappointed in me?" I asked as I made both Nick and I bowls of cereal. "Are you going to sit down or what?" I asked Nick.
Nick sat down next to my mum and I handed him a bowl of cereal as I sat down on the other side of my mum.
"He'll get over it," she replied rolling her perfectly made eyes. "You're almost eighteen and whatever you decide to do is your own choice," she answered truthfully.
"We didn't do anything, I swear mum," I defended, "we just slept on the same bed together."
My mum and Nick full on laughed at my statement. "I mean, you were clinging to me awfully tight," he said as he chewed his cereal and I was so glad that I could not blush because then I'm sure I'd look like Steph when the guys teased her about Asher.
"Oh I saw everything," my mum added, "she was curled up to you like a second skin."
"I'm just saying what I saw," she shrugged and stood up. "You guys enjoy your morning and I'll talk to your father for you."
We sat in silence for awhile before I asked the question that had been on my mind since my mum said something about it.
"Was I really clinging onto you that bad?"
Nick took a spoonful of cereal into his mouth and watched me from his spoon before he answered.
"Yes! But it's not as bad as you think it is. I actually liked how you clung onto me as if I was your lifeline," he said and took another mouthful of cereal.
"Oh my gosh I can't believe I did that," I said covering my face with my hands. "This is so embarrassing."
Nick gently peeled my hands off my face and made me look at him, "hey now, don't worry, it wasn"t anything inappropriate, it was just sleeping."
"I'm never going to leave this down ever."
"Goodmorning sleepy heads," James shouted as he walked into the kitchen and took my bowl of cereal away from me. "Thanks sis, you're the best."
"I was eating that," I frowned. "Can't you make your own?"
"Well now I'm eating it and why can't you make yourself another bowl?" he asked cocking his head to the side as he ate my cereal.
"You are infuriating, did you know that?"
"Just make yourself another bowl," Nick said laughing, "really it's not that hard."
James laughed while I glared at my so called boyfriend.
"Hardy har har."
"Just saying," he raised his hands up in mock surrender.
I rolled my eyes but just sat there and watched James devour my breakfast.
"Do you have any plans for the day?" I asked Nick but still continued glaring at James.
"I was just about to head out actually. I'm meeting up with the guys to hang out," he said, "but you can come with if you want."
"No I'll just stay here," I answered.
"Can I come instead?" James asked. "I really need to see that jersey and maybe take a picture or two to show my friends."
"Sure I guess," Nick shrugged and walked over to me and pulled me into a hug.
James dumped his and Nick's plates in the sink before he grabbed his car keys and headed out.
"You should come, I know the guys would want you there instead of your brother," Nick tried to persuade me, "plus I'll miss you."
"Maybe another time."
"All right, I'll see you at school tomorrow then," he said with his hands placed on my waist and kissed me. I immediately responded and returned the kiss before a honking snapped us out of whatever trance we were in. "I probably should get going."
"Yeah you should," I replied dazed which only made him chuckle.
"You're cute when you're all dazed," he said and placed a soft kiss on my forehead before he headed out the front door.
"That was a show," Mum said excitedly with a smile.
