Chapter 16

The guys and my friends had to go back to school today while Lilith and I had this and next week off. That was the beauty of our school and having gone through our finals already, we had more time off than normal public schools.

Connor was currently out with Nathaniel, preparing for a party and Kai had been visiting Hannah, but he was going to the party too.

Lilith and I were leaving this weekend which was only a couple of days away. I was going because Lilith received the confirmation that Skye and the rest of the guys were going to be there too. I wanted to be there to show support and help smooth things out if need be. I was still sure we were going to have lots of fun, but Kai wouldn’t be very happy about that. Me spending time with other guys got him too jealous and possessive.

It quite honestly turned me on. He was so sexy when he got mad.

“You can’t go to a party wearing so little,” I said to Lilith. “I mean, you could go but... Please don’t.”

I was looking at Lilith who was now wearing a miniskirt and a tank top. We were going to Nathaniel’s party, or we’re going to crash it anyway. He invited us but we both said no until Lilith decided otherwise. She said she needed a night out and I wasn’t about to let her go alone to a party full of people I didn’t like nor trust.

She gave me her phone and I was going to take care of it until we came back home. She had a tendency to lose her things when we were partying. But this was Lilith. The girl who couldn’t even get up properly in the morning.

“Well, do you have anything better to wear? I want to wear a skirt or a dress. Going to a party in leggings or pants is a total no-no.” She raised an eyebrow at me but I only waved her off, heading to the almost empty closet in my room.

I opened it, revealing most of my dresses. Mom didn’t pack them. Or at least not the expensive looking ones.

Lilith choose a tight, black dress that had a bare back and reached to her knee.

“Why are we doing this again?” I groaned for the hundredth time in the past hour.

“Because. You need your loser ex-classmates to see that they underestimated you. You look awesome, you are badarse and the friend you just brought with you is totally do-able.” Lilith joked, her eyebrows wiggling while she spoke.

I didn’t reply for a few seconds. “Um.. I’m sorry, what did you say? I wasn’t listening. Your eyebrows are really distracting.”

“Yes, I know. You have a fetish for my eyebrows. Let’s just hope the people will share your enthusiasm.”

I laughed. “I have no idea what you were drinking today and I’m seriously questioning whether I want to drag you to that party or not.”

“First of all, love,” she said fiercely with her English accent. “I’m dragging you to the party. Second, it’s your fault for adding so much sugar to my coffee. You know what that does to me. Third, this girl needs a drink. And let me remind you, the last time we were at a party was almost a month ago. I need to relax and so do you.”

“But how’s going to Nathaniel’s party going to help? If anything, I’m going to feel even more uncomfortable because my whole school is going to be there.”

“That’s not your school anymore.”

“Oh, you know what I mean!” I snapped but Lilith just looked amused. I wasn’t sure why she was doing this, but there was definitely a plan behind it.

With great reluctance, I locked the house behind us when the time came and drove us to Nathaniel’s place. The music was blasting through the speakers but people weren’t really drunk yet. I secretly sent Nathaniel a text and told him that Lilith and I were coming, but not to tell anybody. I only texted him to let him in on my situation, which was that I wasn’t going to drink alcohol. I didn’t feel like it. Besides, I was also the driver.

When Lilith and I stepped inside, Nathaniel’s eyes caught mine and he yelled my name over the music. People have turned. People have stared. Never in my life, ever, did I feel so scared and uncomfortable. Matt was standing in the corner with Diana’s arms around his neck. Adelaide and Reese had their back turned to each other like they were fighting but other than that, so many familiar yet strange faces were looking at me like they couldn’t believe I was here.

Nathaniel rushed and hugged me, planting a kiss on my forehead. He hugged Lilith. The guys and Lilith got really friendly. Real fast. Maybe because Lilith wasn’t really that much of a girly girl, but one of the boys. She was cool.

Lilith took my arm in hers as her hips swayed to the beat of music. Nath rushed to give us something to drink. People started to ignore us, but I still heard whispers.

“You look hot,” Lilith had said to me as I started to wonder whether there was something on my face... or my dress.

“So do you.” I complimented her.

“I know, I dress from the best.” She smirked as I laughed.

“What do you think Abbott and the guys would do if they were here?”

“First?” She asked and I nodded. “They would hit on the girls. Then, they’d get drunk. After that, they would sing karaoke and embarrass themselves.”

“Do you know what else comes to mind?”

“Do tell.”

“Do you see that guy?” I pointed at Henderson Smith.

“The one who keeps staring at people?” Lilith raised an eyebrow.

I nodded. “I think Ford would have a staring contest with him just to prove which one of them’s more serious.”

Lilith laughed really loudly and I couldn’t help but laugh with her. “That is totally what he would do!”

Just then, Nathaniel arrived with our drinks. We thanked him and he gestured to follow him to the VIP room where Connor, Kai, Delilah and Beck were. It was a simple game room with many nice things to offer.

“What’s the point in hiding at your own party?” Lilith asked but I just shrugged.

“Well, at least you get a good reputation,” I said, even though that was something I never desired.

I kissed Kai hello as I sat down in his lap. Lilith sat on the beanbag across from us. Kai’s hands traveled up and down my thighs, waking up the butterflies in my stomach. I leaned my head on his shoulder and looked at my friend staring at me thoughtfully. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it even though there was a very amusing expression in her eyes.

“What?” I asked her, knowing she wanted to say something.

“I just figured out what Abbott would try to do.”

“Spill,” I said, leaning forward.

“Abbott’s the kind of guy who would have a kissing competition. Like, he would choose a couple of girls, kiss them and then evaluate them based on how good their kissing skills were.”

I laughed again, because I really could picture Abbott doing something like that. “Okay, so we have Ford and Abbott. What about Skye and Riley?”

Everybody stared at us in silence, while Lilith and I seemed to think. They had no idea what we were talking about, or I think they were trying to get a feel for what kind of friends I had.

“Oh!” Lilith snapped her fingers at me. “Riley would flirt with girls of course. But he would use those really cheesy pick-up lines like ‘Did it hurt when you fell from Heaven?’ and stuff like that.”

“Yes, that’s true. And Skye would probably just get drunk and have an awkward dance off with everyone in the room,” I laughed.

“Oh my gosh, don’t even start,” Lilith said but a laugh escaped her. I turned my attention to other people in this room. Kai looked really tired, like he was too exhausted to say anything. Connor was busy staring at Delilah and Beck was just staring at Lilith.

Huh, when I thought about it, Beck and Lilith would be really cute together. Not to mention that Beck’s parents were originally from London, only that he was born in America.

So, I tried to set them up.

“Hey Beck?” I called his name right after I drank to contents of my drink. He looked up at me and smiled. “Would you be a dear and get me something non-alcoholic to drink? Lilith could come with you as she knows what kind of drinks I like.”

Beck nodded without any objections and I winked at Lilith who seemed surprised. She quickly got on my train of thought and smiled brightly. One down, one more to go, I thought to myself.

Nathaniel excused himself from the room, as he had a house to look after. After he left, I looked at Delilah. I was almost positive she was blushing while Connor kept staring at her. It was a little creepy.

“Oh would you guys just hook up already!” I snapped at them both. My friends weren’t in a talking mood today, that’s what I noticed. And if Delilah and Connor didn’t want to talk, then they better do something because I was getting a little frustrated.

Of course, after getting Connor’s stink eye, he leaned over and kissed Delilah. She didn’t pull back, instead, they were in a full-on makeout session. I sighed as I didn’t want to see any of that with my own eyes. Yes, it was good to see them together, just a little too gross.

“Let’s give them some privacy,” I whispered to Kai and stood up from his lap. Taking his hand, I led him out of the room.

Beck and Lilith were nowhere to be seen when we left the room. We searched everywhere for them until we found them talking outside on the porch. I gave Lilith her phone back and she told me I could go home with Kai and that Beck would drive her later.

I asked her if she was sure and she nodded. I trusted her and I trusted Beck too. In the end, I decided that my best friend was in good hands.

During the drive home, Kai spoke, “You’re staying in my room tonight.”

When we got to his house, it was dark.

“My parents won’t be home until tomorrow afternoon. We have enough time,” He said, as if he knew what I was thinking. Which I had no idea.

He opened the door and I stalked up the stairs. It was dark, but I liked it. I liked his house and I felt more at home as I did in my own. I trailed my fingers on the wall as I made way to his room. The door was open and I stepped inside after turning on the light. Kai came in seconds later, holding a present in his hand.

“This is for you.” He said. “Happy anniversary.”

I was stunned as I totally forgot. Today was five months since we first got together. How stupid of me! I do not deserve a guy like him.

“Open it,” he said to me.

“I didn’t get you anything.” I complained as I took the box from him. “I can’t believe I forgot. I’m so stupid.”

Kai chuckled. “Don’t worry, mine’s not much of a gift either.”

The box was kind of small, but it was twice as big as my palm. I peeled away the paper and laughed at his present.

“Nine boxes of condoms?” I laughed again. “Oh Kai. What am I going to do with you?”

“I hope my gift gives you some ideas.” He smirked arrogantly and it was a smirk I forgot existed. His bad boy attitude came back and it was one I loved.

“It does.” I leaned in an gave him a kiss. His lips were soft and so were his arms as he knelt in front of me, between my legs while I was sitting on the bed. I leaned my forehead against his. “But you’ll have to work for it.”

“What do you have in mind?” He smirked and his chest puffed out.

“Well, you have to take off your shirt.” I said to him and he did. I ran my hand down his chest and along his lean muscles.

“Take off my dress.” He did just that. Kai raised his eyebrows to give him more orders.

“Give me your shirt.” I said. He walked over to where his shirt was lying on the floor and handed it to me.

“Thanks, now go to sleep.” I laughed as he was totally played by me. I only wanted to sleep in his shirt.

Kai looked incredulous but because of his exhaustion, he didn’t complain. We slipped under the covers and his arms held me long after we fell asleep.
