Chapter 2
OMG what is happening right now?! His lips... are on mine... and I’m kind of freaked out. What am I even supposed to do?! I’m not ready for this. I don’t even know how to kiss someone. I haven’t even ever kissed anyone. He’s my first kiss. Oh no. Umm maybe I should just enjoy it? Yeah that’s what I’ll do. I’ll just stand here.
He broke the kiss and licked his lips all while staring in my eyes. It’s like he can see my soul. “Have fun in class. Bye!” And with that, he walked away like nothing had just happened. I must look like an overripe tomato but I went inside the classroom anyways.
All the girls were glaring at me and some of the boys were giggling like 5 year olds. Jerks. I mean, what was I supposed to do? I’ll talk to Jayden about this later. “Everyone sit down!” My teacher said. We all sat down and the lesson began. I zoned out imagining different ways to start the awkward conversation of why he kissed me. My mind went back to the kiss. I didn’t know it could feel like that. Maybe I should ask him for— “Miss McKeyla!”
“Yes?”
“Are you paying attention? If you are, prove it. Answer this question.” She evilly said as she wrote a question on the board. 2+2? Really?
“Well,” I started, “two is a number signifying 2 objects such as 2 apples, the plus sign you see symbolizes addition so the correct answer would be 4.” The class burst out laughing at my explanation. I leaned back in my chair, smirking.
“Very good, McKeyla. Next time, please pay attention so we don’t waste anymore class time.” I nodded. Class ended a painful while later and I was getting up when I heard my name being called. “McKeyla!” I turned around to see Jayden leaning on the door frame, his lips curved into a half smirk, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “We have the next class together. So stop eyeing me like candy and get moving. We don’t have all day.” I rolled my eyes but packed up all my stuff anyways. He really is pretty good at acting. But little did I know that all of this wasn't just an act.
The rest of the day passed by uneventfully. Except for lunch which was, let’s just say strange.
Flashback
Jayden was leading, or should I say dragging, me to the table, hand in hand. After much arguing, of course. We stopped at the table in the middle of the room. Everyone at the table stopped talking and looked at me like I was mold growing on the ground. What idiots. As you can see, I’ve never really liked the popular “gang.” Jayden obviously noticed the awkwardness in the air and started talking. “Hey everyone, this is my new girlfriend. You all know McKeyla, right?” I waved awkwardly, still feeling uncomfortable under everyone’s gaze.
They watched me for a couple more seconds before Jayden sat down, motioning to me to sit down next to him. He started introducing everyone as a “friend.” Apparently, he didn’t have a best friend because he was too “cool” for that. Anyways, it was pretty quiet at the table but me and Jayden kept talking about random stuff like our classes. Once lunch was over, he walked me to my next class and gave me a peck on the cheek and ran off so he wasn’t late for his next class.
Flashback ended
We were sitting in the car, him driving me home, a comfortable silence between us. His car was a white Honda, nothing fancy but it looked like he really loved this car. He looked deep in thought while staring at the road. I broke the silence with a typical, “How was your day?”
He jumped out of his seat, narrowly missing a car that was on the side of us. LOL I think he forgot about me in the car. “Uhm- I- It was pretty good.”
“That’s nice.” I took a deep breath before continuing with what I had to say. My heart thundered as I was asking this. “Why’d you kiss me this morning? ”
Jayden’s POV:
Did McKeyla really just ask me why I kissed her? I didn’t know it bothered her so much. Well, I enjoyed it. Maybe I’ll bother her with my answer. And then maybe tell her the real reason.
“What was wrong with my kiss? You didn’t like it?”
She turned even redder which I didn’t think was possible.
She started stuttering while trying to answer, obviously embarrassed. “Well- I- uhm- It’s not like that- well-” I cut her off with her ramblings.
“Hey hey chill I’m just messing with you. But did it really bother you that much?”
She was silent for a few moments before answering. “It was my 1st kiss and I didn’t really know what to do.” Ohhh well that makes sense.
“I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable. Sorry.”
She whispered her answer. “It’s okay.”
“Hey." I paused for a moment, trying to think through my ideas one more time before I actually do something that I’m going to regret. Okay, I’m just to rip off the bandaid. “To make it up to you,” I continued, “I’m going to tell you the real reason for me asking you to be my fake girlfriend. ”
She nodded, not wanting to interrupt me.
“I don’t have a psycho ex girlfriend.” I thought she’d go all off on me but unlike other people she kept her calm, motioning me to keep going. “I asked you because I actually liked you, that kiss was to make sure that I actually feel something for you because you’re too beautiful to be broken. I’ve had a crush on you ever since kindergarten, but I was too much of a coward to admit it. That’s why I just ignored you.”
She was silent for a couple moments, processing what I just said, while I took the time to calm myself from my little spiel. “Well, as much as I don’t approve of your tactics, I’m willing to give you a chance. When’s our first date?”
