Chapter 14

I looked in the mirror. My hair was shoulder length. My roots were black. The rest of my hair was burgundy. It was darker closer to my roots and brighter towards my ends. It looked good. I definitely approve of what Clarissa did. Her and Adrian are downstairs trying to pick out a movie. I changed into sweatpants and a spaghetti strap tank top.

I made my way back downstairs and I heard laughing. I didn’t go back into the room. I waited outside. I shouldn’t be listening but I am. “She likes you. You like her. Just date already.”

“I don’t think that’s going to happen. Her and I are really good friends. I might know what she does and I might train her men but I don’t want anything to do with the Mafia life.” I know we have to keep us a secret because Damien might put a hit on him but it still kinda hurt. Especially because last week he said he was all in.

“I wouldn’t of chosen this life. I needed it. Marissa and Damien have been trying to improve the Mafia. It works better now. We have many different stations. Marissa needs someone for her. I never liked how my brother was. He liked her but he wanted to control her. To take over and get her out of the picture. Damien didn’t know Jordan’s intentions. He trusted him and my family being Italian didn’t help any.”

“But am I the right person to be with her. I know you want her to be with someone that can handle all of this and be for her but am I the right choice?” It was weird to hear him asking her for advice or whatever.

“I feel like you’re the only one that could.” I walked in and they looked up at me. I sat in between the two of them and I covered myself up in a blanket.

About halfway through the movie Brendon walked through the front door. He had bruises on his face. “Brendon what happened?” He looked at me and froze.

“Who’s this?” He was pointing at Claire.

“This is Clarissa. What happened?” He looked away from us. I went to get up but Clarissa stopped me.

“I’ll get him cleaned up. It’d give me a chance to actually meet who your best friend was before me. Plus, I think I’m gonna head up to bed anyways.” She looked at Adrian and said, “Talk to her.” He rolled his eyes and motioned for her to go. She grabbed Brendon’s arm and lead him upstairs. Adrian put his hand on my thigh meanwhile I laid my head on his shoulder. He kissed the top of my head.

We sat like this for a little while. Until I saw the hall light upstairs turn on. I kissed his cheek and moved to the other side of the couch. Xander came downstairs. “Yes because this is a good idea. Just don’t let Dad see. You two are cute together but with the fact that he was apart of Dad’s case, I don’t think he would approve.” I nodded. “He’ll be home in 3 hours. Have fun but not too much fun.” I chuckled but told him, okay. He grabbed a glass of water before heading back upstairs.

Adrian reached over and pulled me back to him. I smiled and sank into his side. “You’re so beautiful,” he mumbled.

“Really?” This caused him to look at me with confusion written on his face.

“Who hurt you?” His grip on me tightened.

I kissed his cheek and said, “Everyone.” He didn’t say anything. He just looked deep in thought. I snuggled more into his side and continued to watch the movie. After a couple of minutes I looked up at him. He had a blank look on his face. He was zoned out. “Hey, what are you thinking about?” He blinked a couple of times and looked down at me.

“Nothing. I should probably get going.” He kissed the top of my head and started to get up. I grabbed his hand. “Riss,” he warned. I stood up and wrapped my arms around his neck. He immediately grabbed my hips. He leaned down and I met him. Our lips moved in sync. He sat back down as I straddled his waist. My hands found their way into his hair. His tongue slipped inside my mouth as we fought for dominance. It didn’t last long though. My phone rang. “Ignore it.” I shook my head. In my line of work, I can’t ignore a phone call.

“What is it Marco?” Adrian started to kiss my neck.

“Mike and Ike are dead. Get to the warehouse on Maple. We’ve got trouble brewing. Bring that Adrian guy, Clarissa, and Josh. We need all hands on deck.” I slowly pushed Adrian away.

“I’m on my way. Call Josh and have him meet us there. I want to know who did this.” I hung up the phone and kissed Adrian really quickly. I knew I wouldn’t be able to for the rest of the night. I knew I wouldn’t be able to tomorrow either. Or Sunday. “We have to go. I’ll go wake up Clarissa.”

I got up and so didn’t he. I started to walk away when he grabbed my hand and kissed me again. “You might want to cover those up.” He pointed to my neck. I rolled my eyes.

“I’m not even going to fight with you. Even though you can’t just go around giving me hickies. Anyway get your shoes on. We have to go to the warehouse on Maple.” He looked at me confused. “Like it or not, you’re one of us now. Besides maybe you’ll know something, like how to get there.” I kissed his cheek and went upstairs. I went into my room but she wasn’t in there. Rolling my eyes for the millionth time today, I went to Brendon’s room. I opened the door and saw her sleeping on his chest. They looked cute. “Claire, we have to go.” She groaned. “Something happened. Marco needs us.”

“Have someone else help him.” I slapped the back of her head. “Ow!” That caused Brendon to wake up. “Is it really important?” I nodded. She groaned and tried getting out of the bed but Brendon had his arms around her. “Brendon I have to get up. Work drama and all that.” He groaned but let go of her. She kissed his head before leaving with me.

“So... My brother?” She looked down. “I’m not mad. Just surprised.”

“Me too. It just sort of happened.” I nodded. Adrian was waiting for us by the door. I put on my shoes and went to his car. I got in the passenger seat. I was honestly tired. I almost fell asleep on the drive over but then we pulled into the lot. Whoever did this is going to pay.
