Chapter 11: The Stranger from Day One

“And Principal Hughes hates Damien with a passion!” Mason commented. Damien gave him a flat look and Mason just ignored him, making me chuckle.

It was our lunch break and we all were just talking about the most random things as we enjoyed each other’s company while eating the burgers that Jason and Mason managed to bring by skipping a class before the break.

“He’s not joking about this! And he’s not even exaggerating this!” Jason said. Damien huffed as he shook his head at the twins.

“Why is the principal after him?” I asked the twins as I glanced at Damien. He looked at me and shrugged at my question.

“Don’t you dare shrug innocently at that question!” Ellie spoke up as she glared at Damien. Damien had a small smile on his face as he raised his hands up in surrender.

“What did I do now?” Damien asked Ellie, who narrowed her eyes at Damien.

“Dude, you know exactly why Principal Hughes hates you.” Xander snickered. Damien raised an eyebrow at Xander in question, silently asking him to elaborate.

“You go around beating the crap out of random people and you come to school on a bike. Also, the twins almost always manage to rope you in with them when they play a prank on someone and you get in trouble because of that too.” Liam shrugged.

“And you are pretty intimidating too.” Kara added. Liam kissed his girlfriend, Kara’s cheek before smirking at Damien who was looking bored.

“Do you want me to add onto the list?” Liam asked smugly. Damien sighed at that.

“Okay. I am almost always in trouble. But that doesn’t mean that Principal Hughes hates me. He just doesn’t like me.” Damien defended. I snorted at that.

“That’s what you think.” I couldn’t help but comment. “From what I’ve heard and noticed, Principal Hughes tries his best to search for anything and everything to trouble you or to punish you. In my eyes, that’s what someone does when they hate someone.” I stated.

“She’s right.” Ellie nodded her head in agreement. “If Principal Hughes had a daughter, he would have sent her off to Timbuktu in order to make sure that she never meets you!” She chuckled, making everyone laugh with her. Even Damien chuckled a little at that.

“That’s probably true.” Damien accepted. Everyone laughed as Damien smiled and shook his head.

“Well, if it helps, if I were Principal Hughes’ daughter, I would have hung out with you just to piss him off!” I smirked at Damien who chuckled at my comment while the others threw their heads back as they laughed without any care.

Suddenly, the smiles were washed off of their faces as they all looked at something behind me. Their expressions changed to those of anger.

I turned to look at what made them so angry only to find the blonde guy from my first day standing there. He was the same guy who was flirting with me before Mason showed up. And as everyone around me glared at him, he was smiling down at me.

I frowned as I tried to understand the situation. As far as I remember, I haven’t talked to this guy after my first day. I did see him in the hallways but I never talked to him. I’ve seen him smiling my way a few times but I’ve ignored him like he wasn’t even there.

I didn’t even remember his name!

“Hello, Penny.” The guy greeted me. My frown deepened.

“Who are you?” I asked with slight hostility. I didn’t know the guy but if the people I now call friends do not like him, they must have a valid reason for it. And since all of them were glaring at him, it was certainly not a petty fight that they had with this guy.

Besides, I finally found amazing friends and there was no way I’d doubt them!

“Umm… I’m Ethan. We met on your first day here.” the blonde guy reminded me.

“The one who was shamelessly flirting with you while you were trying to find your way around.” Mason added. I looked at Mason and the look on his face almost made me burst out laughing. The angry look on the face that I’ve only seen smiling or smirking made him look almost comical. I bit my lip to contain the laughter as I turned back to Ethan who was now glaring at Mason.

“And what the heck are you here for?” I asked him. His eyes turned to me as his smile returned to his face. He was a good-looking person and there was no doubt about that. If it wasn’t for my new friends who were glaring at him, I would have started flirting with him just like I flirt with Damien.

“I was hoping to ask you to hang out with me sometime. I would love to get to know you, Penny.” Ethan said with sincerity in his voice.

“Like hell you would!” Damien snapped before I could respond to Ethan’s request. My eyes widened as Damien stood up from his seat and walked up to Ethan. Ethan was a couple of centimeters shorter than Damien but he still didn’t cower as Damien glared at him.

“You can’t ask her out! She’s Damien’s girl!” Jason spoke up. I raised an eyebrow as I looked at Jason but he wasn’t looking at me.

“If I were you, I would have left by now.” Damien stated in an almost-growl. “And if I ever see you anywhere near her again, I wouldn’t hesitate in breaking off all of your bones,” he warned. I gulped at the promise in his voice.

If I were Ethan, I would have been trembling in fear!

“So now you’ve taken Xander’s role, huh? Now you’re the playboy who comes in a relationship with every new girl only to dump her the next day. You’re the new heartbreaker of our school now?” Ethan chuckled darkly. I could see Damien’s fists clenching. I knew that he was about to explode like a volcano.

And though I would have loved to see some real drama unfolding right in front of me, I now considered these people as my friend. And as a true friend, I had to stand by them and help them in avoiding drama.

I quickly got up and placed a hand on Damien’s shoulder in hopes of making him calm down. He looked at me for a few seconds before storming off from the cafeteria. I sighed before turning to Ethan.

I knew that Ethan’s words had somehow made Damien angry. From what I’ve heard, Xander was the notorious playboy of the school before he fell for Ellie. Maybe hearing himself being compared to such a person, Damien didn’t feel right. Besides, he didn’t deny it when Jason said that I’m his girl. And like Ethan said, I’m the new girl.

But Damien was my friend now. I had to defend his honour and respect. If he was too angry or felt too vulnerable to respond, I had to respond to him. After all, that’s what friends are for, right?

“Listen here, blondie.” I started as I looked Ethan in the eyes. “If you ever try to mess with any of us ever again, you wouldn’t have to worry about Damien coming after you. You would be lying in a hospital bed with all your bones broken before Damien could even think about you.” I warned him with the deadliest glare. He tried to hide his fear but I could see through his façade.

“Mhhmm.” Ethan hummed quietly.

“Now make yourself disappear before I change my mind about pardoning you this time.” I said, making his eyes turn wide before he turned around and almost ran away.

“That was amazing, girl!” Ellie spoke up after a few moments of pin-drop silence. I sighed before turning to smile at her.

“I’ll go and check up on Damien.” I sighed as I picked up my bag. “After all, I’m supposedly his girl now…” I said looking at Jason with a smirk. He chuckled but didn’t say anything. So I walked out of the cafeteria to find the brooding Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome.

Me: Hello, readers!

Mason: Will you ever let anyone else start?

Me: Nope!

Jason: Thought so...

Penny: Why do you wanna start anyway?

Mason: I wanna start with something better than just ‘Hello, readers!’. I wanna start with something grand!

Ellie: And what according to you is grand?

Jason: My twin-stinct tells me that it won’t be great.

Mason: Oh! It’ll be awesome!

Me: And what according to you will be awesome?

Mason: If you ever let me start, you will have the honour to know the answer to your question.

Damien: I would like to avoid all that...

Penny: Me too. Let’s go on a date and discuss that!

Damien: *sighing* Actually, that’s better than all this. *snaps fingers and disappears with Penny*

Xander: *turning to Ellie* Do you wanna go on a date too?

Ellie: Sure! *snaps fingers and disappears with Xander*

Me: Where’s Kara?

Jason: Liam disappeared with her before the start.

Me: *sighing* It’s so hard to find friends who don’t disappear!

Jason: I’m still here.

Mason: Me too!

Me: *sighing* You know what? Let’s just go to the movies.

Mason and Jason: Sure!

Me: *turning to the audience* The next update will be up on 27th May 2021.

Jason: Which is Thursday.

Mason: COMMENT, LIKE and SHARE for more frequent updates!

Jason: Until next time, stay safe!

Me and Mason: And eat cake!

Curtains close as the author and the twins snap their fingers and disappear...
