Chapter 15: Cucumbers with Anxiety

“Wow! They are totally lost!” Xander’s amused voice brought me back to the present and I realised how I needed to breathe. So, Damien and I pulled away, reluctantly.

Instead of looking at Damien, I looked at Xander and Ellie who were smirking at us. Ellie had her hands on Aria’s eyes, not letting her see anything.

“When I was kissing Ellie in front of your sister, you told me to stop and here you just kissed Penny in front of Aria without a care in the world! That’s not fair!” Xander playfully complained.

I rolled my eyes at his comment but I knew that my cheeks were resembling ripe, red tomatoes right now. And to top it off, Damien’s arms were still tightly wrapped around my waist and my hands were still around his neck.

Looks like we both don’t want to let go…

“Oh shut up! It’s not like Aria saw something new. She has already seen you two kiss!” I shot back. Xander chuckled as Ellie’s cheeks became slightly red.

“Touché!” Xander said as he wrapped his arm around Ellie’s shoulders. His eyes went to Damien’s and it looked like Damien silently told him something and he understood. “Come on, babe. Let’s go and make some hot chocolate with Aria.” Xander said as he led Ellie and an excited Aria to the kitchen.

I gulped nervously. I knew that Damien was trying to make them all leave the room so I would have no other option other than to face him.

I looked back to find Mason typing away on his phone while Jason was looking at me and Damien with a goofy smile. I glared at him but it didn’t bother him.

“Kara, babe, I think that we should go and check up on Xander and Ellie. We don’t want them to burn the whole place down while they try to make hot chocolate, do we?” Liam said as he got up with Kara.

“But I’m pretty sure that they aren’t that bad in the kitchen.” Kara argued innocently. I almost smirked in victory.

Kara’s innocence sometimes does help…

“But we should still go.” Liam said.

“Why?” Kara questioned with a frown.

I thanked the gods above for making Kara so innocent.

“I want some water. Come on.” Liam pressed.

“Then you go and have some water. I’ll be waiting right here for you.” Kara shrugged before plopping down on the recliner she was sitting in before with Liam. I almost laughed at the frustration on Liam’s face.

“Kara, I really think we should go.” Liam said while raising his eyebrows, trying to subtly motion towards me and Damien, trying to make her understand the stuff he was not speaking out loud.

“Why?” Kara asked again. I bit my lips to stop the laughter while I heard Jason chuckling. Liam sighed as he leaned down and whispered something in Kara’s ear.

Kara’s eyes grew wide as she looked around before she got up and almost ran to the kitchen.

“I’m going to go and explain to Kara that I just lied to her and the boogeyman isn’t real.” Liam sighed as he left for the kitchen.

I was even more scared now. I was terrified. Mason and Jason were my only hope now. And that thought alone scared me!

It wasn’t like I was afraid to look at Damien. No! Hell no! I was just not feeling like looking at him at the moment.

“Mace, I think we should go and check if everyone’s okay in the kitchen.” Jason spoke with amusement in his voice as clear as the fear on my face at the moment.

“Do I look like Clark Kent?” Mason asked in a dead-pan voice. Jason frowned in confusion as did I.

“No.” Jason answered.

“Then why do you think that I have any interest in saving people?” Mason asked with an eye roll. He went back to texting someone on his phone. I grinned as I tried to pull away from Damien to go to him but Damien wasn’t letting me go.

I wanted to give a whole lecture to Damien when he tightened his hold around my waist but I didn’t because that would have meant looking at him and I wasn’t ready for that. I couldn’t look into his deep chocolate-brown eyes just yet.

“Mace, just look up at the scene in front of you!” Jason sighed as he motioned towards me and Damien with his hands in frustration. I glared at him for that.

“Not interested!” Mason said as he got even more comfortable in his seat. I heard Damien taking a deep breath to calm himself down a bit.

“I think you should do as your brother says, Mason.” Damien spoke in an eerily calm voice that had me freezing. I felt the vibrations as he spoke because of our proximity. I gulped as I saw Mason finally looking up at the poor helpless me.

“I’ll leave. Come on, Jace.” Mason gulped before he and Jason almost ran off to the kitchen. I gulped as I stared behind them.

“Are you suddenly afraid to even look at me?” Damien asked when I didn’t face him. His voice held amusement which irked me.

Can I just rearrange his handsome face?

“I’m not afraid of you!” I told him as I turned towards him but kept my eyes closed.

I’m not afraid. I’m terrified!

They say that the human body is 90% water. And humans are basically cucumbers with anxiety but I was feeling like I am 99% nervous energy and 10% jelly. If that makes any sense…

“Oh really?” He asked with a chuckle. I hummed as I nodded my head. “Then open your eyes for me.” He challenged me.

“I don’t have to prove anything to you.” I said before I tried to pull away again.

“Oh! Come on, Penny!” Damien said with amusement. He chuckled when I tried to stomp.

“Leave me, you barbarian!” I exclaimed. The next thing I felt made me freeze. Damien was kissing my cheek. That made me open my eyes to look into his eyes.

“Now there are those beautiful eyes.” Damien smiled. His smile wasn’t taunting or smug. It was a sincere one. “Why weren’t you looking at me?” He asked in a whisper.

“Because I didn’t want to open my eyes and realise that it was all just a hallucination.” I answered before I could even think about it.

But it was true. A kiss is a sign of affection. And Damien’s kiss was full of it. I haven’t felt that in a long while. And when I did, I didn’t want to lose it.

“It wasn’t a hallucination, Penny.” Damien told me with a small sweet smile. But as he continued to look into my eyes, his smile turned into a smirk. “But I understand. I took you by surprise.” He said. I snorted.

“Yeah, you did!” I chuckled. “I mean, I was going to choose between Mason and Jason and you suddenly kissed me out of nowhere! That too when I wasn’t sure if you even trusted me not to be a secret agent here to kill you.” I added.

“I’m sorry if I made you feel like I don’t trust you and for the shock.” He apologised. I smiled at him, silently telling him that it was okay. “And allow me to rectify my mistake.” he said, making me frown.

“Rectify what mistake?” I questioned, cautiously.

“The mistake of not letting you know about my intentions of wanting to kiss you.” He answered with ease. I chuckled.

“You’re being a little too corny now.” I commented as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He glanced at my lips before looking back into my eyes.

“I would have taken offence to that but for you, I’ll make an exception.” He whispered. I giggled.

“See! You’re being corny!” I pointed out. “I don’t like corny guys.” I scrunched my nose to show my disgust, making Damien’s face fall. “But for you, I’ll make an exception.” I told him.

He chuckled. He shook his head at me before leaning closer. I leaned closer and closed the gap between our lips.

Maybe this new place isn’t that bad…

Me: Another early update! I’m awesome! *smirking*

Mason: That just means that you have a lot of free time. That’s nothing to be proud of, especially when your sister-like friend’s birthday is not too far away.

Me: Shut up! I have a lot planned for her!

Jason: Yeah? Like what?

Me: I... I’ll go and visit her!

Xander: That’s only possible if her parents are okay with it. And you haven’t asked for permission.

Me: I’ll send her a gift!

Ellie: And what will that be? You do know that you need to think about it all, right?

Me: Then what do I do?

Penny: You’ll figure something out.

Me: I know... Anyways, I want everyone to be happy and excited so I’ll be updating the story on her birthday.

Damien: But your sister-like friend doesn’t like reading...

Me: That’s something she’s trying to work on... Anyways, her birthday is on 6th June.

Jason: So we will be back on 6th June 2021!

Ellie: No shit, Sherlock!

Me: And if anyone does have any ideas about how I can surprise my little sister on her sweet sixteen, please help me! I have no idea as to what I should do!

Xander: So, we will be seeing you all on Sunday!

Jason: Until then, stay safe!

Me and Mason: And eat cake!

Damien: Don't forget to VOTE/LIKE, COMMENT and SHARE!
