Chapter 35: Nothing About the Blond Birdie
Damien frowned when he saw me standing at the door as he walked out of his class. I could tell that he wasn’t expecting me. Especially not with an angry expression.
If I wasn’t angry, I would have laughed out at the slight fear in his eyes!
“Penny? What are you doing here?” He asked as he walked up to me slowly as if he was approaching a hungry and angry lion.
Well, that’s close to what I feel…
“Waiting for you apparently.” I told him, keeping my tone even. He nodded his head, not breaking the eye-contact.
“Is everything alright?” He was being cautious. I could see how tense he was as if he was expecting me to start throwing punches at him at any moment.
I would love to punch him right about now!
“I don’t know.” I said as I folded my arms. “I mean, is it alright to lie to someone you like just because you think that they don’t like you back?” I asked him with fake curiosity on my face.
His eyes grew wide only for a second. I could have missed it if I had blinked. But then he gulped and tried to act confused.
Keyword here being: tried…
I could see right through his act.
“What do you mean by that?” He asked me, trying to be nonchalant.
“Oh! I don’t know. A blond birdie told me everything.” I hummed.
“What blond birdie?” He asked in an angry voice.
Oh! So he thinks he is the one who should be angry?
“Instead of asking so many questions, you should be explaining everything to me in your own words!” I snapped at him.
“I really have no idea what you’re talking about, Penny.” He grunted, glaring at me.
So he still wanted to act dumb?
“So Mason lied to me when he told me that you don’t have a crush on Ellie?” I asked him.
“Absolutely!” He replied without missing a beat. I could see the panic on his face as he looked around.
“So you wouldn’t mind if I tell that to her, right?” I walked closer to him so that I could talk without having to worry about the few people who were still around.
“Penny-” He started but I cut him off.
“She should know, right? I mean, she can help. Besides, she should know about the issue if she is involved.” I shrugged. Damien clenched his jaw as he stared at me.
Suddenly, Damien was pulling me by my arm. His grip wasn’t too tight but he wasn’t letting me shrug it off. He walked us to an empty classroom before closing the door behind himself.
“What the hell did Mason tell you?” He almost growled.
“He told me that you don’t like Ellie. You just didn’t know how relationships worked so you took inspiration from what you have seen.” I told him.
There wasn’t any reason to beat around the bush. There was no reason for lying about anything. No one could hear us here.
“That stupid… Idiot!” Damien fumed as he ran a hand through this hair.
“He might be an idiot but he told me the truth. Unlike you.” I scoffed. “If Aria knew about this, she would be so disappointed!” I added when I could see his anger going to the next level.
“Don’t bring Aria into this!” He roared. “I was going to tell you everything but Mason got to you before I could!” He informed me.
“When were you going to tell me that? After I got into a relationship with Ethan?” I scoffed.
“So you do like me?” He demanded, his tone still sounding angry.
“Obviously!” I exclaimed angrily.
“Good!” Damien replied in a loud voice.
“No! It’s not good, you mindless jerk!” I huffed.
“Why not?” He demanded.
“Because you’re a complete idiot!” I screamed, throwing my hands up in the air.
“Yet, you still like me.” He scoffed, rolling his eyes at me.
“That’s because you are a weird creature! And I like weirdness!” I stuck my tongue out at him.
“Real mature, Penny! Real mature.” He walked closer to me.
“Do you even have any idea about how foolish I feel? How guilty I feel for throwing that accusation at you?” I asked him.
“It wasn’t your fault. It was mine. I was being stupid.” He grunted. I sighed as I took a step closer to him.
“Why didn’t you talk to me about it?” I questioned.
“I really didn’t think it would have mattered.” He shrugged. “You said that you liked that date with Ethan. So I figured…” He trailed off as his voice cracked.
“How can you even think that I would have still gone out with him if I knew that you did like me?” I asked.
“I don’t know.” He huffed.
“If you’re so damn clueless then why didn’t you just ask me about it? Why didn’t you just say something?” I groaned.
“Oh! I don’t know?” he fumed. “I didn’t know that I could have asked you straight to your face if you liked me or not!” he exclaimed.
“Well, you could’ve!” I yelled.
“I didn’t know that!” he shouted back. “Why didn’t you talk to me? Why did you move on with Ethan at your side?” He demanded.
“Because I didn’t know that you liked me!” I shouted. “You never told me about it! And you still haven’t!” I belted.
There was silence for a while as I was breathing heavily, trying to calm down.
When I decided to approach Damien and question him about his lies and to sort everything out, I didn’t know that it would involve this much anger and shouting. If there was a crowd with their ears at the door of the room, I wouldn’t be shocked.
But I definitely would be a bit embarrassed…
“I thought that all those kisses that we shared told you that I like you.” He mumbled.
And just like that, my anger melted into nothing…
I smiled as I raised my hands to cup his cheeks.
“Foolish Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome, if that was the case then why didn’t those kisses tell you that I liked you too?” I chuckled. “Why didn’t they tell you that I would have chosen you over Ethan? I haven’t even ever kissed him!” I snorted.
He sighed, closing his eyes. He brought his hands up to cup mine which were on his cheek. I smiled at how cute he looked.
“So, you never kissed him?” He asked, not bothering to open his eyes.
“Nope!” I chirped.
“How many guys have you kissed till this day?” He asked. I rolled my eyes.
“Believe me, you don’t wanna hear the answer.” I reported. His eyes shot open as he clenched his jaw.
“Believe me, I wanna hear it.” He shot back.
“Damien, I’ve been to a lot of places. Created a lot of trouble. Pissed off a lot of people.” I sighed, dropping my hands and stepping away from him. “Kissing a guy to annoy someone or to cause drama which is usually followed by chaos is not something I haven’t thought of or done.” I shrugged.
“So why haven’t you done that here?” he asked.
“Because I like it here. I don’t want to leave this place before I graduate.” I shrugged.
“Wh-” Damien started but I cut him off with a loud groan. “What?” he asked with a frown.
“You’re asking way too many questions!” I huffed.
“Then what else do you want me to do?” he frowned.
“Umm… Not ask questions?” I sighed, rubbing my temple with my thumb and forefinger. “We should make up now that all the confusion and the misunderstandings are gone.” I muttered.
“Yet here we are, fighting like there is no tomorrow.” Damien added.
“No! We are not fighting!” I told him.
“Then what have we been doing till now?” he asked with confusion clear in his tone.
“We’re having a lovers’ quarrel.” I smiled. Damien chuckled at my words.
“So, we are lovers?” he asked with a smirk.
“Oh no! We’re far from it!” I answered. Damien’s eyebrows furrowed as he looked at me.
“What do you mean?” He muttered.
“We haven’t even been on our first date yet!” I chuckled. “How can we be lovers? I don’t know much about you and you know next to nothing about me.” I pointed out.
“That’s it?” He shook his head. “Would you like to go on a date with me today after school?” He questioned.
I smiled as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He smirked as he wrapped his arms around my torso.
“I would love to go on a date with you, Dami.” I chuckled when he rolled his eyes at the nickname.
“You know, Mason told me to ask Aria to help me get you back.” He confessed.
“You didn’t have to get me back, stupid! You never had me!” I chuckled.
“Hey! You are my princess!” Damien joked.
“I did tell you that I am no princess.” I told him as I pushed him away. “I’m the damn evil queen.” I reminded him before I left the room.
I heard Damien chuckling behind me.
“Just meet me in the parking lot after school!” He called after me. I glanced back and winked at him before walking off to my locker.
