Chapter 36: Dami's Girlfriend

“Pandas are my spirit animals!” I chimed. Damien chuckled as he took off his helmet.

“May I ask why?” He asked as he motioned for me to walk to the door.

That’s a bit… Formal…

“You may. But that doesn’t mean that I will answer.” I answered as I started walking to the door. I knocked on the door before looking back at Damien.

“Is it because they are cute?” He asked. I rolled my eyes.

“Pandas are cute but that’s not why they are my favourite. They are chill. They are lazy and yet they are awesome!” I explained.

Just then, the door opened and I saw Davina Gray, Damien’s mother. She sighed in relief when she saw me. She looked tired and really stressed as she wrapped her arms around me in a quick hug.

“It’s so good to see you again, Penny!” She cheered as she pulled away and motioned for me and Damien to enter the house.

“It’s good to see you too, Mrs. G.” I smiled.

“So, are you here to babysit Aria?” She asked me. She turned to her son. “Do you have your training today?” She asked him with a frown.

“No, mom.” Damien answered.

“Actually, when you called him, I was there and since I was missing the little princess, I decided to join Damien.” I shrugged.

“Oh!” She answered. “What were you guys doing?” She asked with a small smirk.

“Mom!” Damien groaned.

Damien had already informed his mom about the date that we went on before coming here. It was hilarious to see how he blushed when his mother teased him about it on the phone.

“We were at this really good fast food joint, Mrs. G! The burgers there were so good that I had to ask the owner to adopt me!” I told her. “Unfortunately the owner wasn’t there.” I sighed.

Damien’s mother chuckled at my words as she picked her bag up and started to check her stuff.

I hope she knows that I wasn’t joking about what I said…

“It’s good that you both had a nice time.” She smiled. “Should I arrange a celebration for my son finally getting a girlfriend?” She asked in an amused tone.

“Mom!” Damien groaned. A light blush covered his cheeks which made his mother and I laugh.

“We are not boyfriend and girlfriend yet, Mrs. G.” I told her. She frowned looking at Damien.

“I am not someone who will ask her to be my girlfriend on our first date, mother.” Damien answered his mother’s unspoken question. She sighed, shaking her head.

“Aria! Come out honey! I need to leave now!” Mrs. Gray called out as she picked up a file and started putting on her sandals.

“Penny!” I heard a squeal. Before I could look for the source of the voice, a small body collided with my legs, almost knocking me down.

“Aria!” I tried to mimic her cute voice, chuckling as I picked her up. “How’s the cute little princess?” I asked her.

“I am good!” She giggled.

“Take care, sweetheart.” Mrs. Gray said to Aria, kissing her chubby little cheek. “Take care of your sister, Damien!” she told her son.

“Okay, mom.” Both the siblings replied in unison, one in a cheerful voice and one in a tired one.

“Stay over for the night if it gets late, Penny. Or just ask Damien to drop you home. Thank you so much for coming here.” She told me.

I smiled back at her and with that, she left waving at Aria who waved back in excitement.

“So, what were you doing, princess?” I asked Aria who was still in my arms, playing with my hair.

“I was playing with my dolls.” Aria told me. “But I want to do something else.” She pouted, looking at me.

“Sure! We can do whatever you want, Aria.” I smiled at her as I walked to the living room and sat down on the couch with Aria in my lap.

Aria sighed as she looked around aimlessly. She then turned to Damien who was standing a few feet away looking at us with a small smile. She glared at her brother before turning to me.

“Penny, Dami is very bad.” She told me with a cute angry expression on her face. I frowned at her words.

“What happened? What did he do?” I asked her, glancing at Damien. Damien looked confused at his sister’s words.

“Mommy told me that he was on a date with someone!” She told me. “I don’t like that girl he went out with.” She complained.

My eyebrows shoot up at her words. I was left speechless.

What do you say when a cute little kid indirectly tells you that they don’t like you?

“Why don’t you like her, Aria?” Damien asked as he sat down next to me on the couch. “Do you even know who it was?” He glanced at me before asking that question.

“Whoever she was, she didn’t ask if she could date my brother.” Aria pouted, crossing her arms.

“Aria, your brother is a big boy. He should be able to date whoever he wants.” I told her in a soft voice.

“And it isn’t someone you wouldn’t have liked.” Damien muttered. But the little girl ignored her brother as she turned to me.

“Penny, she would come to the house to visit Dami, right?” She asked. I nodded my head at her. “Then she would see me too. I would have to talk to her too.” She explained.

“What if you like her?” Damien asked.

“Would she be as amazing as Penny?” Aria questioned back as she wrapped her arms around my neck. I chuckled as she raised an eyebrow at her brother.

“I am sorry for not asking you for your permission to go out with your brother, princess.” I apologized.

Aria’s eyes widened comically as she looked between me and Damien. I pinched her cheeks but her expressions didn’t change.

“Do you like her now?” Damien smirked, tickling his little sister.

“Stop tickling me!” Aria giggled, pushing Damien’s hand away. “Did you really go on a date with Dami?” She asked me.

I smiled at her, nodding my head. The smile she gave me then was one that could have lit up the whole damn world!

How can she be so cute?

“She’s my princess, isn’t she?” Damien said as he placed a hand around my shoulder. I rolled my eyes at him. I elbowed him, making him wince.

“What did I tell you?” I turned to Damien.

“Penny is a queen! Not a princess!” Aria exclaimed, giggling at her brother.

“See! Aria is more intelligent than you ever could be!” I smirked at Damien. He rolled his eyes as he got up.

“Do you guys need something to eat?” He asked us as he walked to the kitchen. “I can make hot chocolate or popcorn!” He shouted from the kitchen.

“Are those the only things you can make? Because I’m in the mood for some freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.” I replied.

“I can’t make those!” He replied back.

“Ellie makes the best cookies!” Aria exclaimed.

“Well, Ellie is not here.” Damien said, walking back with a glass of water. “Do you need any hot chocolate?” He asked.

I looked at Aria who thought about it for a minute before shaking her head.

“I think we’re good for now.” I told Damien.

“Okay.” He mumbled before walking back to the kitchen.

“Penny?” Aria said in a low voice.

“Yes, princess.” I smiled at her.

“Are you Dami’s girlfriend now?” She asked with her eyes wide in curiosity.

I was kinda shocked even though I had expected her to ask that question.

But what do I say now?

I was at a loss for words all because of a little girl. That was shocking and a bit scary. No one has ever been able to make me speechless like this before.

What will you say now, Penny?

“I wish she was.” Damien replied as he walked to us and sat down next to me on the couch again. “But I think we will go out on a few more dates before that, Aria.” He told her honestly.

“Why?” She frowned at her brother.

“Because I want to make sure that when she does become my girlfriend, there are no secrets or doubts left that could tear us apart in the future.” Damien whispered, looking right into my eyes.

Penny: Hurry up!

Me: We need to address the audience first!

Mason: Then do it fast! Hurry up!

Damien: Umm... guys, the curtains are up...
