Chapter 45: Cat's Out of the Bag [Part 1]
“Damien!” I called out as I followed him. He stormed out while the twins were still in shock and were looking between me and Uncle K. “Damien!” I called out again.
“What the hell do you want now?” Damien fumed as he turned back to face me. His glare and icy tone made me visibly flinch.
Panda bears! I have never seen him being this angry!
“Penny!” I heard the twins shouting as they came to stand next to me.
When they saw the look on Damien’s face, they both took a step forward and stood in front of me like human shields.
“What did I do wrong?” I spoke, my voice barely a whisper when I saw how tense they all were and how Damien was looking at me with eyes full of hurt.
Tears were blurring my vision and the urge to sob was very strong.
“Oh really? You seriously want me to answer that?” Damien chuckled humourlessly.
“Damien! Not here. The baseball team is still in the school along with a few other kids. We need to talk somewhere privately.” Mason reasoned.
“Yes. Let’s not get carried away with all this.” Jason nodded his head.
“Yeah sure! You two have been her puppets since the day she got here! You will take her side here too. It’s not like I have been your friend for years or anything!” Damien scoffed.
“Damien!” I cried.
He was being unnecessarily mean to two of his best friends.
I knew that he was really angry with the whole revelation but Mason and Jason had nothing to do with it. It was my secret. They did nothing wrong.
“Don’t you dare say another word! Don’t you dare act like the victim when you were the one who used us all!” Damien warned me, his voice full of hostility.
“Damien!” Jason frowned.
“Don’t talk to her like that!” Mason scolded him.
“Like I said, puppets!” Damien sneered.
My heart broke as he spoke. I felt as if someone was gripping my neck a little too tight, choking me. I couldn’t breathe.
“Damien, we are not her puppets. We are just asking for you to calm down before you do or say something you will regret later.” Jason spoke in a calm voice.
“Or before someone else hears about everything.” Mason added.
“Did you two already know about her? Did you already know about it all?” He fumed as he moved his glare from me to his friends.
“No!” I told him honestly.
“Damien, if not anywhere away from school, let’s just go to one of the empty classrooms.” Mason said calmly. “We can discuss everything there.” He added.
“Yeah! Let’s do that. Or else her uncle will storm out of his office and give us detention for making his little niece cry!” Damien spoke with venom lacing his words.
Before I could have replied, he turned around and started walking away. Jason nudged me to follow.
I gulped as I took a deep breath and steadied myself.
I’m Penelope freaking Hughes!
Actually it’s Penelope Brielle Hughes… But whatever!
I’ve been through worse! This is just a piece of cake for me. I can’t just break down and cry like a fragile little girl!
I tipped my chin up in confidence as I followed behind Damien with the twins by my side.
Well, if all does go to hell, at least I’ll still have these two idiotic yet loyal friends…
We all walked into one of the empty classrooms away from the Principal’s office. Mason closed the door behind us and came back to stand next to me.
“I did not do anything wrong.” I stated. I just wanted them to know what I felt from the start.
All my new friends are important to me. They’ve helped me feel good about myself. They’ve helped me in ways that no one will ever understand. But that doesn’t mean that I’ll let any of them walk all over me.
“Are you kidding me?” Damien scoffed. “You lied! You lied to us all!” he boomed.
“I never lied to any of you!” I yelled back. “I just hid the truth. There’s a difference.” I remarked in a softer tone.
Damien clenched his jaw as he stepped closer to me. The twins were just about to step in front of me to protect me from Damien if needed but I stopped them.
I couldn’t let them step in between to protect me. A secret was revealed and we had to talk about it if we wanted to work through it. We couldn’t just stay in our comfort zones if we wanted to move forward.
“Did you not lie about liking me? Did you not play with my feelings?” Damien gritted as he looked directly into my eyes.
I could tell by looking into his eyes that he was hurt. And he was just channelling it all into anger. He was hurt that I didn’t tell him everything. And the hurt was making him say things that he didn’t mean.
“No, I did not.” I replied. Damien gulped before looking away from me.
“I don’t believe you.” He told me after a while as he looked at me. “I can’t believe someone who lied. Who knows what else you lied about.” he snapped.
“I did not lie about anything. The only reason that I never let anyone know about this was because I didn’t want anyone to think of me any differently.” I clarified.
“Why did you think that we’d treat you any different if we knew?” Mason frowned.
“If I had told you that I was the principal’s niece from the start, would you honestly have bothered to get to know me? Would you have tried to be my friend?” I asked. “Or would you just have treated me nicely to help you when you got into trouble with my uncle?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
“Good point.” Jason nodded his head as he thought about it.
“You did the right thing.” Mason murmured as he nodded his head.
“I would have treated you the same.” Damien spoke up.
“Yeah, sure.” I rolled my eyes at his words. “Would you still have wanted to be my boyfriend?” I asked him.
Me: I’m evil! Part one is here but the second part will be up tomorrow.
Mason: But I wanted to read further!
Me: You’ve lived further, doof!
Mason: You have a point...
Me: Anyways, the next update will be up tomorrow.
Damien: But the update will be up now if you can guess the answer to our question within an hour!
Penny: And it’s simple, really. You just have to guess the speaker of a dialogue.
Me: To make it simpler, the dialogue is from a chapter that you have already read.
Ellie: You have to tell us the chapter and the speaker of the dialogue! Easy peasy!
Mason: And here it is...
Unknown speaker: I’ll tag along just to make sure that you don’t murder him and dump his body in a dumpster.
Me: Put your guessing hats on! See you guys soon!
Jason: Until next time, stay safe!
Me and Mason: And eat cake!
Curtains close as the characters all start giggling with author, thinking about the dialogue...
