Chapter 49: Eagle Something

“And maybe we can go have pizza after that!” Ellie cheered as we walked down the stairs. I chuckled at her excitement.

This girl and her obsession with pizzas…

Since we had a sleepover tonight at my uncle’s house, we decided that we might as well spend the whole day together since it was a Saturday.

My sister, Liv, planned the day out for all of us and I was excited to say the least.

Liv’s the best at planning the most fun outings ever!

We were currently in Ellie’s house where Ellie brought me to help her choose her outfit for the day.

Liv was busy with the day’s planning and Ryder was doing something he wasn’t telling me about so I agreed to help Ellie.

So here we are…

“I am not sure, Elle. My sister is involved here. She usually has it all planned out. She even plans the seats we’ll take in a specific restaurant.” I told her. “My sister is a control freak.” I added with a sigh.

A shudder passes through my body as I remember what she did to the guys who once took the seat she had planned on taking in a restaurant one time.

“Oh come on! She can’t be that bad!” Ellie rolled her eyes.

Oh! How I wish that was true…

“You know, you are actually right.” I told Ellie, earning a smile from her. “My sister is worse than that.” I told her with a blank face.

Ellie rolled her eyes as we walked into the living room where everyone else was waiting for us.

As soon as we walked in the room, my eyes met Damien’s brown eyes. I could see the guilt shining in them and it made me gulp.

“Penny…” He trailed off. There was nothing I wanted more than to just run into his arms at that moment.

Woah! Wait a minute! Hold that thought, Penny!

What the hell is wrong with me? Since when did I become such a sappy weirdo?

“Damien.” I replied in a leveled tone with a small practiced smile.

He looked at me with a look of longing. I couldn’t understand it.

Why would he look at me with any emotion other than hatred?

“I am sorry for overreacting when I got to know about your secret.” He said in an emotionless voice.

This wasn’t a real apology! I can sense the anger behind his words!

Even though I knew that he was just apologizing because Ellie might have or the guys might have forced him to, I smiled at him.

He didn’t have to apologize.

It was my fault too.

I should have trusted him.

I should have trusted them all.

But before I could have said anything, someone else spoke up, breaking the small bubble I was in.

“What secret?” Leah asked as she wrapped her arms around Damien’s arm.

What the heck is this girl doing here?

I thought I already had a chat with her…

It’s not that easy to knock sense into an empty brain, Penny!

“Leah? What are you doing here?” I asked her, faking a smile.

“Penny, why don’t we head off? Let’s catch your sister by surprise by reaching the mall before her!” Mason tried to distract me.

“Mace! It’s rude to interrupt someone when they are talking to someone else.” I scolded Mason before turning back to smile at Leah.

“Oh! Damien and I are actually going on a date.” Leah smiled smugly back at me.

“On a date?” I asked Leah but my eyes were now looking at Damien who was clenching his jaw as he avoided eye contact with me.

“Yeah.” Leah giggled. “Damien asked me out.” She added.

“He asked you out huh?” I asked, my voice surprisingly strong.

“Yeah. I was shocked at first but I couldn’t say no to him!” She giggled.

“Well, I am happy for you two.” I told her with a wide smile as I looked back at Leah.

I couldn’t believe it. But he was standing right here, not saying anything, not objecting to her claims…

Maybe I made a mistake in judging Damien after all. Maybe he isn’t as good as I thought him to be.

Well, I won’t be crying over a guy who didn’t even wait a whole day before moving on…

Good thing that I already agreed to Ryder helping me move on from him!

But now I am going to pull a prank on him! A deadly one!

Nobody messes with Penelope Brielle Hughes and lives peacefully after that. Nobody.

“Panda-bear! I’m here to pick you up.” Ryder called out as he walked into the room with a big smile on his face.

“Why are you here?” I asked him. He was supposed to be with Livvy.

“Ouch, sweetheart!” Ryder said as he pretended to be hurt. “Can’t I come to pick you up? I am your ride after all.” He added.

“What about-” I started to speak but he cut me off.

“Your sister asked me to pick you up. She already had a ride.” He shrugged.

“Okay…” I frowned as I got suspicious about the situation.

“Come on, baby girl. Let’s get going!” Ryder remarked as he placed his hand around my waist. He leaned down to my ear. “Is that the guy who broke your heart?” He whispered into my ear.

“Ry! Don’t do something stupid. Please!” I muttered under my breath.

“Don’t worry, Panda-bear. I’m just going to help you move one.” He smiled at me. I narrowed my eyes at him in suspicion.

From his super happy smile even when he was in the same room as the guy who broke the heart of the girl who was practically his sister.

Something is definitely up…

But since when do I doubt Ryder? He’s trustworthy and he has proven that time and time again.

I trusted Damien and now look where that got me…

If I can trust a complete stranger like that, why can’t I trust a friend who has never given me a reason to doubt him?

“I trust you, Ry.” I told him.

“That’s good, baby girl.” He smiled a genuine smile this time. “Now let’s go before we all lose our heads for keeping your sister waiting for so long!” He added.

We all rushed out of the house and into the cars.

The twins had their own car, Xander and Ellie were riding in Xander’s car with Damien and Leah and Ryder and I were in Ryder’s car.

I didn’t even know that he was going to let Leah join the group outing that my sister planned.

He was being so cautious around me when we first met and now he’s letting Leah come along without any questions. Guess he really never liked me…

Damn, Penny! Stop thinking about that guy!

“Penny, I know that I am not supposed to tell you this and that your sister will have my head for doing this, but I wanted to give you a heads up.” Ryder started after a few minutes of silence.

“What are you talking about, Ry?” I asked him.

“Since your ex is joining us, I thought that you should know this. Liv found a guy to set you up with.” Ryder grimaced, expecting an outburst from me.

Well, I would have shouted if it wasn’t exactly what I needed…

“Does he know that I might use him as a rebound?” I asked Ryder. He smirked back at me.

“Apparently, he knew about your relationship with Mr. Dirtbag. He’s well aware of the fact that you will most probably use him as a rebound. And he’s okay with it.” Ryder told me.

I am confused now. Who could have known it all? And who would be ready to just be used?

“Who is the guy?” I asked in bewilderment.

“Don’t worry. He looks okay.” Ryder chuckled. “His name is Ian or Eagle something.” Ryder shrugged.

Could it be…

It couldn’t be him!

“You mean Ethan?” I asked, holding my breath, hoping that I was wrong.

“Yeah! He said that he’s the baseball team’s captain or something too.” Ryder grinned.

Oh lord!

This should be interesting…

Me: I am so sorry for not updating yesterday! I was going but then I was out... The new meds that my dermatologist gave me made me super sleepy!

Penny: Anyways, the next chapter would not be in my POV.

Me: If you guys want, you can skip the next chapter... It’s in Damien’s POV...

Damien: Hey!

Me: Hi!

Damien: Not hi! Hey!

Me: Hello!

Damien: You know what I meant!

Me: Nope!

Damien: You do!

Me: Nope.

Mason: Can we please move on! I don’t like it when people argue and I am not involved.

Me: Okay... Well, this chapter is dedicated to @Nashra_Pervez for all her amazing comments, the glowing review and the support she has shown.

Mason: You’re awesome!

Penny: Thank you!

Me: I will update tomorrow. I’m super close to dozing off right now... And I have been sleeping all day...

Jason: So, until next time, stay safe!

Me and Mason: And get some sleep!

Curtains close as the characters and the author go off to sleep...
