Chapter Seventeen

“Stab it why don’t you!” I hissed gritting my teeth.

“With that attitude, I just might.” Dom replied sarcastically as she applied the cream on my new tattoo. She slapped the sensitive skin once she was finished and flashed me a malicious smile.

The evil hag!

“Why do people get tattoos if they hurt so much?” I asked rhetorically grazing the bandaid that hid my new ink.

“Because they’re cool to show off.” Chloe shrugged splaying herself on my bed.

“Chlo I just made that bed.” I groaned when she rolled around like a cat, bunching up and wrinkling my sheets.

“But it’s sooo comfy!” she whined.

“Get on Antoine’s bed, he never makes it.” I told her gesturing to a pile of clothes where I was sure his bed was.

Chloe eyed it with distaste. “Gross. I swear I saw something crawl on it awhile ago.” she argued.

“Stop being dramat- ahh! ” I screamed when I saw the pile of clothes move. Antoine emerged from it and looked like the clothes reaper.

“W-what’s going on?” he asked groggily looking around the room half asleep.

“You were under those clothes the whole time?” Dom asked. Antoine took awhile to reply as he was gearing his brain up again.

“Mmhmm.” was his only reply.

“I thought you went out to lunch with Lewiza an hour ago?” I raised my eyebrow.

Antoine scratched the back of his head, then as if putting two and two together he jumped out of bed. “Oh shit!” he cried out toppling over all the clothes on the ground. I cringed at the mess, “She’s going to kill me!”

Then as if on cue, our door room slammed open. Lewiza stood at the threshold soaking wet and looking pretty much like a demented mad woman. We all simultaneously looked out the window and found it was raining.

“Oh it’s raining!” Chloe cried out happily. “Dom let’s go dance.” she chirped tugging on Dom’s sleeve.

“And catch a cold? No thank you Chlo.” she protested shaking her head. Dom, as I have come to learn is the mature mother hen of the group. She looks out for all of us and keeps us goal orientated. “You have a big showcase next weekend at the mayor’s ball. Are you willing to get sick and let Melanie Packard take your place?”

Chloe frowned in resign, “No. Stupid Melanie and her stupid upperclass nasal condition.” she muttered to herself.

“I’ll give Antoine a nasal condition!” Lewiza growled in Antoine’s direction.

“I’m sorry I fell asleep!” he cried out fearfully hiding behind me for protection.

“You left me waiting for you….for a bloody hour!” she snapped ready to jump his throat. Luckily Dom held her back from causing any harm.

“I’m sorry-”

“Oh you’ll be sorry!” Lewiza yelled and that was when the beast was unleashed.

Let’s just say there was a lot of limbs. Some screaming, blood, and tears. But with a group of friends like the intimidation nation, there is never a dull moment.

We all sat in a heap on the floor in my room. I rubbed my jaw where Chloe kicked it. Dom grimaced when she sat up, she could thank me for falling on her. Chloe rubbed her head where Antoine pulled it to defend himself against Lewiza. Antoine had a nasty bruise on his cheek from when Lewiza threw Dom off her to attack him. And Lewiza was groaning in pain from underneath us.

We basically tackled and conquered the beast.

“Lovely evening isn’t it?” Lewiza wheezed from beneath us.

“The rain was needed.” Dom nodded

“Quite lovely really.” I mused.

“I love when it rains.” Antoine smiled fondly.

“I love the rainbow afterwards.” Chloe sighed dreamily.

I gathered my sketchbook and bag to leave class. Once again I was met by the glares of a couple girls. The teacher had praised me for my fall designs and the rest of the class grew envious. I smiled sweetly at a pair of girls who shot me the stink eye.

My grandfather always said to kill your enemies with rat poisoning…then my grandmother would step in and slap the back of his head. Her advice was less lethal. She always said to kill your enemies with kindness.

“Have a lovely day girls.” I waved at them. They both rolled their eyes and left. I groaned and walked back to my dorm.

The November weather was chilly. I had the urge to just pull on sweats and a sweater this morning. However, my reputation at Maddie Dale was my clothing and I couldn’t let it slip.

Thoughts of thanksgiving coming soon barged my thoughts. I was thinking about staying on campus and check out a few restaurants on my own. My friends were all headed home for one reason or the other.

Antoine was going back to New York to spend the holiday with family and his boyfriend. Chloe was going back to Toronto to be with her grandparents…yeah I didn’t know she was Canadian either. Dom was going to Aspen to spend it with her politically posh family. Lewiza was leaving today to start off her holiday in England.

Although she and Chloe don’t celebrate thanksgiving, they still wanted an excuse to be with their families.

Nonetheless everyone would be leaving. My mom-as far as I knew- was still in Australia until further notice. Dad hadn’t talked to me since I left, and I doubt he would fly to Virginia to be with us. Then there was Sawyer, I felt bad with leaving him during the holidays. But I knew he’d be fine without me.

Ty might spend it with him. Or he may fly to California to be with Nicki.

It was my phone ringing that brought me out of my reverie. I answered it on the third ring. “This is Vivian King, give me a reason to not hang up.”

“How about turn around?” the familiar voice replied.

I frowned and turned around. My phone and my bag dropped in shock. I wasted no time in running up to Ty. He scooped me up in his arms and swung me around like a rag doll, but I was too happy to care.

“I can’t believe you’re here, why are you here?” I rambled once he let me down. Ty shrugged and gave me that boysih smile I had missed.

“Well thanksgiving is a week away and I didn’t know if you were coming back home. I just wanted to come see you for old time sakes.” he mumbled shly looking away.

I smacked his chest playfully, “Don’t be embarrassed, I’m so happy to see you.” I smiled. I glanced at my phone to see the time and realized I was late. “Oh come on! I promised my friend I’d help her pack.” I grabbed his hand and my stuff to haul ass.

“Okay.” he shrugged letting me drag him away.

“So she dressed as a guy?” Lewiza asked again. I cringed but Ty happily responded.

“She looked dead on like her brother.” I punched his shoulder and he winced.

Dom sat up in Chloe’s bed and stared at me wide-eyed. “That’s why you missed school in the beginning of the school year?” she asked. I shrugged sheepishly and avoided eye contact.

When everyone met Tyson, they immediately took a liking to him. Everything was smooth sailing until Ty brought up operation switch a twin.

“That’s not even the best part. Vivo is a great football player.” Ty boasted proudly. I shook my head to deny it.

“Not really, I just run fast.” I waved him off, “I can’t even catch the damn ball.”

“She’s being modest, Vivo is a beast on the field. She’s Flash Gordon and Speedy Gonzales’s love child or something. And she can fucking kick the ball like she had a bionic leg.” he told them. I blushed furiously and hid my face.

I don’t know why I feel so embarrassed. I’ve always been proud of my athleticism. But with my Maddie Dale friends, it was something I was almost ashamed of.

Vivian King was supposed to be a fashion protege. I created soft, beautiful clothing. I dressed in designer clothing and spent hours with my head in my sketchbook.

I didn’t want them to know I was a football player. That was a stark contrast to the girl who dressed to impress. I didn’t get down and dirty in the mud. I didn’t go around tackling people. I didn’t sweat buckets after practice.

To them I was Vivian King. Not Vivi, not Vivo, and definitely not Sawyer.

“Oh we should get going! My flight is taking off in thirty minutes.” Lewiza exclaimed shuffling to her feat.

“I’ll see you after the holiday Lew.” I said hugging her. Lewiza wrapped her arms around me and squeezed me tightly.

“He’s cute…and a senior football player. I approve darling.” she whispered in my ear. I’m pretty sure I blushed and pushed her off with a laugh.

“Go, go far far away Lewiza.” I chuckled pushing her out the door.

“Whatever.” she rolled her eyes playfully.

“We’ll see you guys later. I’m sure you two have a lot of catching up.” Dom said suggestively. I groaned and waved them off.

They all chuckled and left to drop Lewiza off at the airport. I opted on staying at campus to catch up with Tyson. It had felt like ages since I last seen him.

We walked to the nearest coffee shop and ordered a late lunch.

“How did you get to Boston, aren’t your parents worried?” I asked him picking at my ham and cheese sandwich.

He waved me off, “They think I’m here scouting a school. I have a campus tour tomorrow.” he explained.

“Hmm so you lied.” I chuckled. His blue eyes twinkled with mischief.

“I didn’t lie, I just chose to omit the truth.” he clarified. I reached over and cupped his hand over mine.

“Well I’m happy you’re here.” I told him honestly, if I wasn’t mistaken I swore I’d seen him blush. “Now tell me about life in Illyria after Vivian.”

“A lot has happened.” he breathed. I frowned and gestured for him to continue. “Your brother is definitely getting closer to my sister. At first it bothered me but I’m getting used to it.”

“Wait, what!” I snapped pulling my hand away, “Doesn’t he have Nicki?”

Ty shrugged, “I actually don’t know. He seems happy and so does Sophia. It’s not exactly something I’ll question. If my sister is happy, that’s all that matters.”

My heart dropped. I missed having Sawyer, we were like Ty and Sophia once. There was a time when all we had was each other. But that ended when Sawyer pushed me into a scheme that would hurt me. He didn’t care like he used to.

We were as good as strangers now.

“He misses you.” Ty said cutting my thoughts off. “He doesn’t say it outright, but you can see it. Especially when he watches Sophia and I tease each other. Sawyer misses you, maybe you should give him a call…” he suggested softly.

I shook my head, “No.” I said, and I know it sounded stubborn but things have changed now. “I don’t want to talk to him yet.”

“You miss him too Vivo. Maybe closure is what you need.”

“I have closure Ty! That’s why I left, this school was my closure. I never belonged in Illyria and I hated lying to everyone. I’ll never forgive him for putting me through that.” I snapped hotly. He was supposed to be my brother, my anchor, but he failed me. He threw me into his shit storm so he could shack up with his girlfriend.

He left me….and now I’m alone. I’m learning that it’s not exactly a bad thing.
