CHAPTER 14: DEVIL IN THE DETAILS PART FOUR
“..….. Yes! Flee you now away from me..... Flee from Hades' blaze…... Flee fromthe Devil’s inferno; Satan’s raise…..”
Smoke bellowed high, fires burning blocking the way of the Warden and of his men.
“Stop that freak!” The Warden shouted.
“.…. The smoke! I can’t see him!”
The Warden pointed to the ceiling, the man keeping a cool calm reservation of his fears.
“Get those sprinklers working! We need to put out those fires!”
The Gorgon, he spoke aloud to the Warden; the spook attempting to menace those that would follow him.
“.…. Warden? Warden Johnston? So very kind of you, to see me out personally..... Not too many a servant of civil authority, share so strong the grit…..”
“Give it up Gorgon! The exits are all covered! You will be gunned down!”
“Perhaps Warden….. But, your shooters; they must see me, before they can kill me…..Me, now; I’m not, to be going anywhere; any time too soon. Me, I have some business I need to be tending to; and then I’ll reach for darkness’ moon…..”
“.….Ugh! Behind you!”
The Gorgon attacked one guard from behind, and proceeded to the next.
“What? Where? Argh!”
“He’s got a knife!”
The sounds of relief guards entering the corridor from the east stairwell; now brought the Warden to some concern.
“Damn! Clear the walks! Guard the exits!”
“Ah, the stairs? How very careless of you, to forget them….. To, and where they do tend to lead….. Shall I use north, west, or east?”
“Shit! The stairways! They, should have been locked down! Get some guys to cover the stairways!”
“I’ll be gone before the smoke clears.….. One ounce courage, five ounces drear….. Ha, ha, ha……”
