It had been a couple of days since the terrifying event and Nova had been staying with Jessica because she was uncomfortable with the idea of staying with Xavier for three weeks.

Jessica told Jason about the scary event and he immediately called Nova, and wanted to make amends. After he confessed his feelings for Nova he felt bad about storming out without talking to her about it and explaining himself.

Nova hadn’t really had time to think about his confession. She only viewed him as a friend, nothing more and nothing less. She was glad that they were going to clear the air and hoped that Jason would be understanding.

She hoped that they could still be friends and not let there feelings get in the way, mainly Jason’s feelings.

Nova was at Jessica’s waiting for Jason to arrive. She was sitting patiently waiting in the living flipping through channels on the tv. She was nervous and happy but really just nervous.

The door bell rang and Nova jumped up from the couch and rushed to the door. She swung it open and there stood Jason with a nervous smile. Nova led him to the living room and they both sat down without a word.

“Nova, I’m really sorry I-I feel so bad. I shouldn’t have yelled at you or stormed out like that without giving you an explanation.” Jason confessed, his tone filled with guilt and his eyes just said it all.

“No, no, it’s okay. I’m just glad we’re here now so we can talk about it.” Nova said giving him a reassuring smile.

Jason let out a breath of relief, “I know you don’t return the same feelings I have for you and I’m fine with it. I do feel like my heart has been crushed but I don’t want my feelings to ruin our friendship, I don’t know what I’d do if I ruined our friendship.”

“I’m sorry Jason, I really am. Your a great guy and I’m sure-“ before Nova could finish what she was about to say Jason cut her off with a laugh.

“Oh no. Not the friend zone speech.” He laughed and Nova laughed a little with him.

“Really Jason, any girl would be lucky to have you but that girl is not me. As soon as that lucky girl comes into your life you’ll forget all about your feelings for me. Maybe your confused and thought you had feelings for me. It’s okay.” Nova stated.

Jason nodded and let Novas words sink in. Maybe he was confused. And maybe he and Nova wouldn’t have even worked out in the end if they shared the same feelings.

“ like him?” Jason paused, his heart beating fast, “do you like Xavier?”

“I like him. He’s been nothing but kind to me. I don’t really understand why I feel so safe with him, I’ve only known him for a couple of weeks but yet I feel safe. I don’t understand.” Nova explained.

“Maybe you feel safe with him because you feel like you’ve known him your whole life. Your not naive Nova, I bet you’d know if your heart was really messing with you. You wouldn’t let your heart replace your brain. If that makes any sense.” Jason said softly.

Nova smiled brightly at Jason, “I’m glad we can still be friends. I missed you like crazy.”

“I’m sorry it took me awhile to get my head out of my ass.” Jason joked.

Nova and Jason settled down after the talk and watched a movie. Nova was glad that she and Jason could talk it out like two grown adults.

“My baby. Where’s my daughter?! I need to see my daughter!”

“Ma’am please stay back. Please stay calm.” A police officer tried to console a sobbing mother.

Two paramedics pulled a stretcher outside the house, laying on it was a little girl with long black hair with her white shirt stained with blood. Her own blood.

They lifted her into the ambulance carefully and quickly.

“Let’s get her to the hospital quick. She’s losing a lot of blood.” One of the paramedics said.

They rushed her into the hospital and nurses and a doctor rushed to the girl. The doctor started yelling out orders and everyone scattered off.

“Hey, hey honey, can you keep your eyes open for me?” The doctor said softly to the little girl who had tears blinding her vision.

She felt tired and drained, the breathing mask was helping her breathe and she felt so much pain. She only nodded to the doctor.

“We’re gonna help you. Your going to be alright. I promise.” The doctor promised.

They wheeled her into a room and immediately got to work. The room was filled with people shouting and stuff being moved around.

Nova felt like a bunch of bricks were pulling her eyes closed, she fought it as hard as she could but she gave in. She could hear the doctor yelling but it sounded like she was under water.

She could no longer feel the pain, it was like her soul had left her body. But it didn’t last for long. Her eyes fluttered opened and right above her were a bunch of nurses and the doctor who had a relieved smile.

“We got her!” The doctor yelled out, “hey sweetie, your alright. We got you.”

They moved Nova into another room and cleaned her up. Her little body ached, the purple bruises started forming on her left cheek and on her rib cage.

The door opened and her mother rushed in with a sob, her father had tears slowly falling. They stood next to the hospital bed and cried at the sight of there beautiful baby girl that they almost lost.

“Oh baby I’m so so sorry.” Novas mother sobbed and hid her face in her hands.

Novas father comforted her and took Novas hand in his. The room was silent. Filled with guilt, sadness and relief.

“Mom, daddy, I’m scared.”
