Chapter 34. Jealous
The following day the doctor came in early in the morning.
I’ve been awake for a while now, waiting in the doctor so I can leave as soon as possible.
“You look better today miss Summer,” he says as he checks my vitals.
“I feel better, when can I leave?”
“You can leave as soon sign the discharge papers, but you’ll need at least a week of bed rest. No pressure must be put on your body. And if possible have someone be there to take care of. If you want we call and have one of our nurses come to your house and take care of you. But of course, that will be an extra charge,” he explains looking towards me.
“Uh, no that’s okay I’ll just have someone I know come over,” I answer.
There’s no way I can afford this hospital let alone a nurse.
“I’ll be back with them.” He says as he notes down my progress then walks towards the door.
As he leaves Ethan walks in and nods at the doctor.
“Is everything okay?” He questions the doctor worried.
“Yes everything is fine, she’s ready to go home now. And I explained to her that she needs complete rest and someone taking care of her. She hasn’t completely healed.”
“Can’t we keep her longer? Until she heals?”
My head snaps towards him. There’s no way.
“Uh that’s not necessary at all, I’m okay to go home.”
“Yes, there’s no problem with her staying if that’s okay with her that is.”
“No, I’d much rather go home,” I answered stubbornly.
“Summer...” Ethan starts and I glare at him, making him shut his mouth.
I thought so.
“Okay I’ll just send the nurse with your discharge papers,” the doctor says as he leaves and I nod my head in response.
How will I pay the hospital bill? Maybe they’ll allow me to pay in instalments. I hope it’s not too much.
“Summer? Are you okay you look worried.”
“Uh yeah, I’m okay.” I smile at him.
“So who’s going to help in taking care of you?”
“Huh? Oh um, I’ll see when I get home,” I answer.
Like as if I’m going to tell him I’ll be home alone.
He raises his eyebrows at me.
“Really? Is it Norah?”
“Yup,” I answer not wanting him to ask any more questions.
“Hmm okay,” he answers unsure.
“Hey so, I informed your boss that you won’t be able to go to work.”
“Yeah, I thought maybe it’s better if he knows that you aren’t well.”
“So you told him I’m sick?”
“No, I just told him you’re injured," he answers.
“Oh, well thanks, I really appreciate that.”
“No problem,” he says as he looks at his watch.
“So how come you’re not resting?”
“My injuries weren’t as bad,” he shrugs.
“Yeah right,” I mumble. He’s just good at hiding his pain.
“Did your friend Norah not come to see you?”
“Oh, she did, with her boyfriend, just after you left, thanks for informing her,” I answer.
“She has a boyfriend?”
“Shocking? Well yes, she does and he’s really nice.”
“Nice? How do you know he’s nice?” He says sounding jealous.
“Because I spoke to him?” I say unsure.
“Hmm, I see.” Just then Norah enters with of course Hayden behind her.
“Hey, how are you?” She asks me ignoring Ethan’s presence.
“I’m okay. Getting discharged today.”
I look towards Hayden and he’s looking at Ethan.
Ethan stares at Hayden, okay more like glaring at him and Hayden stares back blankly.
I look towards the two of them then at Norah and she follows my line of vision.
“Oh come on Ethan stop glaring at my boyfriend like he’s a danger to you. It’s not like he’s going to steal Summer,” she says as she rolls her eyes at his jealousy.
Hearing her response Ethan smirks and looks at her.
“I’m not worried,” he remarks cockily as he shakes his head.
“How you doing Summer,” Hayden questions.
“Much better thanks for asking.”
A nurse walks in with the discharge papers smiling towards me.
Urgh, how will I explain to her that I won’t be able to pay the bill?
“Here are your papers, will you be able to sign?” She asks as she looks at my injuries.
“That’s alright I’ll sign for her,” Ethan volunteers.
He comes forward and signs the paper. And I just smile thankfully, even though I could have done it myself but anyway.
“Um about the bill...” I start
“Oh don’t you worry it’s been paid.” She says.
“What?” I asked surprised.
“Yes, he paid it for you.” She says as she looks towards Ethan.
“He’s a really nice boyfriend so caring, oh and here is the prescription. I will give you the medicines that we have when you leave but we don’t have the other ones in stock so you can get it from another pharmacy.” She explains looking towards Ethan then back at me.
“Oh,” I answer not knowing what else to say. Ethan takes the prescription from her and reads it.
Why did he pay, I’ll definitely pay him back, as soon as I get back on my feet.
“Aww Ethan that is so sweet!” Norah coos. Urgh, always the dramatic one.
“It was nothing, I’ll buy the medicines and send it to your place,” he states.
Just then he gets a call before I could speak up and tell him he didn’t need to. He answers it and says ‘yes’ to whoever called him. He puts his phone back as he cuts it.
“I’m so sorry I have to leave, take care summer, I’ll see you at your place when I get back, please take care of her Norah,” he says.
He begins walking out and nods at Hayden, Hayden nods back and looks towards Norah and I.
“So what time are you going to be allowed to leave? We will take you home and is someone going to be there taking care of you?” Hayden asks.
“I’ll take care of her,” Norah answers.
“No no, that’s okay Norah I’m okay, I’ll be just fine don’t worry alright?” I tell her.
“Nope I’m not hearing a word from you, Hayden go ask the nurse when Summer can leave, she needs to rest.”
“Okay.” He says and leaves.
“Tell me how you really feel,” Norah asks.
“I feel so shit. My head hurts and my body too.” I complain, telling her the truth. No point in hiding.
“Oh Summer, don’t worry I’ll be there for you. I’ll sleep at your house and get your health back.”
“But Norah you have work,” I point out.
“I know I’ll make sure you’re asleep before I leave.”
“Really? Like as if I’m a baby?” I say as I giggle.
“Yup,” she says dead serious and I shake my head slightly.
“Okay if you say so,” I answer knowing full well that I’m not going to be asleep.
“She’s coming,” Hayden announces as he walks in.
The nurse walks in 2 minutes later with a wheelchair and a crutch.
“Okay, so I’ll wheel you out. Keep the crutch and the wheelchair. Your appointment will be next week. You must come and get yourself checked. If everything goes well hopefully you won’t need to use the crutches longer.”
“Okay,” I answer.
The nurse and Norah help me up and I groan in pain as they help me down and make me sit on the wheelchair.
I breathe in heavily and sigh in relief as I sit.
“Would you like a pain killer injection?” The nurse asks as she notices my pain.
“No thanks, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Definitely,” I hate injections.
“Okay, but I’ve written down some pain killer tablets for you to drink have them every 4 hours.” She explains and I nod.
Norah wheels me out of the hospital. As we reach the car she and the nurse help into the car.
I sigh heavily as I settle in the car. Norah hands me a tablet with a bottle of water.
“Pain killer,” she explains and I drink it.
“Thanks Norah,” I mumble and close my eyes.
“No problem, rest I’ll wake you when we reach home,”
“Okay,” I mumble and drift off to sleep.
Moving around took away a lot of my energy.
