I couldn’t believe my brother had managed to survive at Davon’s side all this time. I had hid in a cupboard as Shiva had killed them. How come Danon didn’t scream when he was born? Or had it worked? He looked like me; I had to admit but… it just didn’t fit, it didn’t make sense. Or at least to me, it didn’t. I wanted Raymond to run a DNA test but I was worried Uncle Tommy or Danon would find out and be angry that I didn’t trust my own brother. I had made the deal so long ago, why had he only appeared now?
Now there is a saying, ‘Family don’t end in blood, it doesn’t start there either’, and Danon had been living with a demon. All he knew was what Davon taught him or what he saw, read about and learned from others he met.
I knew Uncle Tommy didn’t think about it much because Danon was a child. But a child and one who knows nothing different is sometimes the best disguise. Uncle Tommy had enrolled Danon in school, I think he realized the mistake he’d made with me and was determined to give Danon a normal life. For the sake of the people around him, both us and the ones he was going to meet I wanted to make sure he wouldn’t hurt them.
