Chapter Five

The day is finally over and I’m so ready to get home and relax. I’m also a little hungry but seen as how I’ll be walking, I can take care of that problem.

I walk to my locker, open it then put the unnecessarily large text books away.

I think I needed my science book for homework? Oh well, I memorized the whole book during class so I won’t be needing it.

I grab the backpack my mom gave me this morning then close my locker. I grip the piece of paper from Callie earlier in my hand. I wonder when I’m getting a new phone? I walk towards the front of the school then go out of the double doors. I begin to get a dark feeling crawling up my spine, making me wonder what it was.

Usually I only get this feeling when my mom is yelling at me for something I did.

My eyes scan the crowd then stop on the boy I saw earlier, the one who continued to walk when I tried to ask him where my locker was. He had dark brown hair and light brown eyes, his skin tan. He was very appealing to me, in the sense that maybe he was another vampire.

Sadly, I don’t live in a world where I can sense when another vampire is around- nor can I smell them because they aren’t wolves. But, vampires are usually all drop dead gorgeous. Vampires are practically perfect because well, we’re dead.. so we can’t get any worse. He was leaning against the metal railing as he talked to his friends. He stops talking then looks up, he looks through the crowd then his eyes stop on me. He looks me in the eyes then his lips pull into a smirk as he begins to speak to his friends once again. I pull my eyes away from his and start to walk again. Okay, that was weird.

I walk along the sidewalk taking in the view around me. California is different than I imagined. I’m not use to the weather, I went from freezing cold too burning hot.

I don’t even know how to get home, damn it Snow. Did I have to throw away that useless map?

I’m pulled out of my trance as I feel a hand wrap around my wrist making me immediately panic and throw them over my shoulder onto the ground. I recognize the boy from earlier, making me instantly feel bad.

“I’m so sorry!” I let go of his wrist, “Reflexes.” He chuckles, then stands up, dusting himself off.

“No problem, babe. It didn’t hurt.” He smirks. What’s up with the babe thing here? “So I was right, you are a vampire.” He grinned.

“What do you want?” I glared at him, taking a defensive stance, ready for anything he might throw at me.

“I want to know who you are.” He replies, pushing his hands in his pockets.

“Who are you?” I raise an eyebrow. He chuckles, shaking his head.

“The name’s Nate. What’s yours.” He brings his hand out of his pocket, thrusting it towards me to shake.

“Snow.” I take his hand and shake it. I turn on my heels, beginning to walk away but he continues to follow. “Um.. What are you doing?”

“What does it look like?” He asks as if he’s talking to a little kid. Okay now his attitude is getting annoying.

“You need to lose your attitude.” I roll my eyes at him. First in the hallway and now? No. Who does he think he is?

“You gonna make me?” He smirks down at me. And he challenges me? I really don’t like him. I glare up at him.

“Look, I’m not doing this.” I reply.

“Doing what?” He acts confused but then smiles. I roll my eyes and begin to walk faster, he still follows. I stop in my tracks and turn around to face him.

“What do you want? Why are you following me?” I ask, practically screaming at him.

“I want to know more about you, Snow. Huh, Snow, that’s a pretty name.” He thought to himself, smiling down at me.

I know right? I’m glad I picked it.

“Uh.. Thanks?” I say. “But you should really leave because if my mom see’s me with a boy she’d freak.”

“She doesn’t let you date?” He raises an eyebrow.

“No, she wants me too. That’s the thing. And who ever said anything about me dating you?” I scoff, amused at his overly cocky behavior. Is this guy serious?

“It was just an example.” He shrugs. “Don’t get your hopes up.” I laugh at him, wanting nothing more than to rip his throat out.

“Okay.” I turn around and start walking. He still follows, I sigh.

“So are you going to follow me all the way home or..”

“Well, I was going to ask you if you wanted to go get something to eat, but if you want me to leave so badly, I will.” He sighs, a fake and overly dramatic sigh. I roll my eyes. He sighs once again but this time louder and more dramatic. “I guess ill be on my way now, unless you want to come?”

“Well.. I was going to get like a rabbit or something..” I mumble to myself, thinking out loud.

“Yeah..” he chuckled, shaking his head. “No, you’re coming.” He grabs my hand then speeds into the woods. I almost hit a tree about three times seen as how he’s running and pretty much dragging me along. He stops in front of a big house, not as big as mine but still pretty big.

“This is my house, we have food here. My moms really good at making the blood taste like it’s something else.” he says.

“And again, if my mom see’s me she-”

“She wont, she doesn’t have to know.” He turns to face me, cupping my cheeks in his cold hands. I feel butterflies swarm in my stomach and I blush a little. What’s wrong with me? This hasn’t happened to me before...

“How is that possible?” He stared at me, his eyebrows drawing together as his thumbs pushed against the tops of my cheeks. “You’re blushing... I can feel the heat... I can smell the blood rushing to your cheeks...”

I immediately turn away from him, patting my cheeks down.

Damn it, two slip ups in one day- god, maybe we should just leave America and not come back.

“Oh, uh, I don’t know. It runs in my family I guess.” I turn to face him when my face went back to normal. He stared at me confused for a second before he nodded his head slightly, still looking curious.

“Well... you coming?” He puts his hand on the door handle and holds one of his hands out to me. I take it, nodding my head then follow him into his house. The second I walk in, my nose is infiltrated with the smell of wolves, yet spices and meat being cooked as well. A little blonde boy, looking about eight or nine comes up to the door as we enter. I notice I’m still holding Nate’s hand so I quickly pull away, he looks down at me and smirks. I stick my tongue out at him and he laughs.

The little boy gasps then runs down the hall, where the spices and meat smell is coming from. “Mommy, Nate’s got a girlfriend! And she’s pretty!” He screams. I laugh a little, in awe at how cute he was.

Two boys come running down the stairs, both looking around the same age as us.

They’re wolves. I can smell it. Should I be worried?

“Whoa, Nice going bro.” The blonde one says, looking me up and down while nodding his head with a grin plastered on his lips.

“Yeah, You really know how to choose a girl.” The one with light brown hair winks at me.

Right as I’m about to deny everything about us dating I choke on thin air and start to cough. “Um.. We’re not dating..” I finally let out after my choking session. The one with light brown hair lifts an eyebrow.

“Oh, really? Well then hi, My name is Brent.” He smiles at me, putting an arm around my shoulder. I raise an eyebrow then take his arm off of me.

“Sorry, I’m not interested.” I shake my head. He acts hurt, putting a hand over his heart. He then chuckles as he stares at me.

“You’ll come around. They always do.” He smirks, winking at me again.

That’s the second time I’ve heard that today. There’s just a whole bunch of cocky guys now-a-days isn’t there?

I look up at Nate, raising my eyebrows at him. He laughs then surprises me by grabbing my waist and pulling my body to his.

“Shes mine. Stop scaring her.” He orders his brothers. They both laugh then head their separate ways, the blonde one going up the stairs and Brent making his way into the open living room. Nate lets go of me once they’re out of sight.

“Uh.. Nice brothers.” I chuckle, turning to face him as he smirks, looking down at me. “But I should really get going.”

“You can stay for a little longer, No one will mind.” He pulls me closer to him by my waist once again. I blush and nod then push him off of me. He laughs. A beautiful woman with long blonde hair and crystal blue eyes comes from around the corner, the kitchen I’m guessing.

“Hi, I’m Jenna, you must be the pretty girlfriend?” She laughs and holds out her hand for me to shake.

“I’m Snow, Not the girlfriend but pretty can stay.” I smile and she laughs, turning to Nate with an approving look before her eyes meet mine again.

“Nice to meet you Snow, would you guys like something to drink? After a long day I’m sure you do.” She smiles. I nod.

“Follow me.” She says and we do just that. We walk into a large kitchen with a crystal chandelier hanging from the roof, a marble table and black cabinets. The kitchens walls are made of nice tile and there are pictures of the family hanging all around. Its beautiful. She pours the thick red liquid into a glass and gives one to me, and one to Nate. I sniff it first before I drink a little bit of it.

Wow.

It tasted like blood, yet it was a little more sweet and sour at the same time. It was absolutely delicious.

“What did you do to make it taste so well?” I ask. She smiles.

“Its a secret.” She says. Nate rolls his eyes.

“She adds fancy old wine to it.” He says and I laugh. His mom slaps his arm with a “Hey!” I laugh again then finish the drink.

“I should be heading home now, it was very nice to meet you.” I smile she smiles back.

“You too, Snow. I hope I see you again. You may be a good influence on this one.” She points at Nate. I laugh and he rolls his eyes.

“Ill walk you home.” He says. I nod.

I have absolutely no idea how to get home- nor do I know how I can get into contact with my mom. She was really stupid not buying me a phone the second we got here. Ugh.

“Your mom is nice.” I smile as we get outside.

“No, she’s obnoxious.” He rolls his eyes. I laugh and he smiles at me.

“What?” I ask after he continue staring at me with his addicting smile. Wait what? Okay something’s seriously wrong with me, I’m going to need to talk to my mom about this.

“Nothing, you’re just beautiful.” He says and I blush. “Sorry, that slipped.”

“No its okay, Thank you.” I giggle, nodding my head at him. “So, I have absolutely no Idea how to get home. We moved into a huge house that has a lot of windows... a horse shoe drive way and pink and purple flowers pretty much everywhere around it... Have you seen it before, maybe?”

“Uh... I think so. If it’s the one I think it is, It’s not too far from here.”

I sigh out and nod my head, feeling him wrap his hand around my wrist again. I protest immediately. “No, no. I’m not running into a million trees again.” I shake my head and he laughs. He takes me by surprise and puts me on his back then runs down the street, then into a part with large trees, the sight familiar to me. He stops running as we approach my front yard, making me smile. Awesome! He did know where it was, but... now he knows where I live. Great.

“Is this it?” He asks, his hands still cupping the backs of my knees as he waited. I nodded my head at him.

“Yep, Thank you.” I smile then get off of him. A green Lamborghini pulls into the drive way a second later, making me face palm. What happened to keeping a low profile? She’s making us seem extremely rich.

“Nice car.” Nate says. Crap Nate’s still here, My moms going to embarrass me! My mom gets out of the car, wearing a pair of sunglasses.

“Who’s this?” She asks eyeing the boy beside me.

“Mom this is Nate, Nate this is my mom.” I sigh.

“Hi Nate. Susan Jackson. It’s Nice to meet you.” She says and holds out her hand for him to shake.

Using her real name doesn’t seem safe. What is she thinking?

“Nate Walker, Ma’am. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.” He smiles, taking her hand in his own and kissing it. My mom looks at me, her eyebrows raised as if to tell me that she approves.

I roll my eyes at his sudden behavior, shaking my head at him.

“Nate, would you like to stay for dinner?” She asks. My eyes immediately widen, and I jump in to protest.

“Mom I’m sure Nate has things to do.” I say, glaring at her. She rolls her eyes and puts her sunglasses on the top of her head.

“Actually I don’t. I’m free so I would absolutely love to stay for dinner.” He looks down at me and smirks. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to talk myself out of killing this boy.
