John got up along with Annie and made his way over to the altar, where the priest was waiting.
My father insisted on walking me down the aisle since he didn’t have a daughter he could do it with.
John handed Day off to my mother. My aunts and Zerha were bridesmaids. Danon was sitting in the audience awaiting Astra and Gavin’s entrance as flower girl and ring bearer. Raymond was telling him to sit down but he kept turning to look. Kate was laughing and telling Raymond to leave him and that at least he wasn’t running around.
My aunts and Zerha walked down the aisle, then Gavin and Astra, finally me and my father walked arm and arm down the aisle.
I and John stood facing each other with the priest in between. He opened his Bible to a page.
“Do you, John Constantine, take Arthur Weston, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?” he started.
“I do,” John replied smiling.
“Do you, Arthur Weston, take John Constantine, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?” he continued.
“I do,” I reply.
“Any objections?” he asked.
The crowd was silent.
“You may kiss each other,” he finished.
John didn’t hesitate like before.
Everyone started clapping and shouting.
We took each others’ hands and walked with everyone else down to the dance floor.
