Chapter 1

April 30, 2017

It’s late in the afternoon so I started to head back from my parents house where I spent the day for dinner since I don’t live with them anymore and live in my own house that I rent. I open the door, put my keys down on the table and went straight to bed since its a Sunday and I had work tomorrow. It’s 6:30 in the morning and my alarm goes off and as I open my window I notice that it’s still dark outside which is weird since the sun should of already been up by this time. I can hear the tornado sirens in the next county over, but the weather radar is clear. Where is the sun? I was a little startled since this never happend before but figured it was just my clock that the time was wrong or it was broken so I decide to turn on my bedroom tv and put on the channel 5 news since I wasn’t sleepy anymore. My heart dropped as I heard the news say that we were gonna be in lockdown because the sun disappeared and to stay in our homes until it’s all over. Ater I heard that so many questions went through my head, “is this actually happening?”, “how long is this gonna be for?”, “how did this happen?”. As I try to clam down and put my self together, the power starts to go out. I start to hear noises outside, sometimes far away, sometimes close.

I can’t sleep, I think the noises outside are gunshots. It is still dark, the news said it would be back to normal by now but it isn’t. Tv signal is gone, the noises keep happening outside and I can barely keep track of the time anymore, I am honest to god terrified. I went outside to check out what was happening and as I do, I see in the distance I a red light flashing and it scares the shit out of me so I run back inside shaking. I looked for stars or planets as people on social media suggested, the sky was absolutely pitch black, could be because of clouds or something else. Still shaken from the short time I was outside, I don’t know what that flashing light was but it was following me.

May 2, 2017

Still no sign of daylight and it’s getting colder. A person just ran by my street and two of the same flashing lights I saw yesterday were following him, I wanted to record it to show my friend but by the time I got my phone they were gone. Reception went out yesterday and I worried it wouldn’t come back on. No signs of activity outside, come to think of it, it has been a while since I heard a gunshot. I got a notification on my phone and it is Danyon my friend, “one of my friends texted me, oh thank god” I said in my head, at least of one of my friends is alive.

Messages

Danyon: “dude are you still alive?”

Me: “yes I’m alive. Where the hell have you been? Why did it take you this long to reach me after I called you like 40 times?

Danyon: “I’m sorry but my phone died and I was just now able to start charging it”

Danyon: “Ur still at your house right?”

Me: “yes”

Danyon: “Ok good I’m still a 2 days drive away but I’m coming for you”

Me: “I’m not really sure if that is a good idea”

Danyon: “why”

Me: “What have you seen?”

Danyon: “lol dude you have no fucking idea”
