Chapter One: Moving in

The leaves danced as they fell to the ground, parents racked the leaves off of their lawns as their children played in their backyards with their dogs. A moving truck arrived near lunch time, all the people of Sunny Day Lane watched out from their windows to see who their new neighbours were going to be and where they were going to live. Four homes were for sale, three were going to definitely get sold, expect for the last house in the cul-de-sac, it was the house that used to belong to the Hall family the previous year. A horror story had occurred a week after their move. A psychopath had entered the house one night and murdered the whole family. It was a tragedy since the house was a beautiful country home to die for with the storybook cover of a white picket fence and shutters. It was all a person would want but the deaths of the Hall family made the house unwanted, abandoned. It was easy to understand why someone wouldn’t want to live in a house were a whole family was murdered in. The truck continued on to the last house of the street. The neighbours watched in shock. Where the people mad? Were they not told what happened in that house before purchasing it? The truck stopped and the new neighbours got out of their car that was following the truck. Andrew and Hannah Young got out of the car and looked at their new home in amazement. Their little girl, Dorothy, got out of the back seat and joined her parents. Dorothy ran to the back of the house with her favourite teddy bear in her left hand. She saw a swimming pool filled with green water and a tree house. The little girl climbed into the tree house and explored. Hannah entered the backyard and didn’t see her girl.
“Dorothy?” She screamed.
“Mommy”Dorothy screamed pocking her head out of the window from the tree house.
“Come inside, honey. You have to choose your room. Then you can come outside and play in the tree house all you want. O.K?”
“Yes mommy.”
Dorothy climbed down, ran to her mother and they walked inside the house holding hands. Dorothy got upstairs and inspected her three choices. One was too dark, one was painted white and one had plenty of paintings on the wall, even though Dorothy was only eight years old she knew that the wall would have holes if she would take the paintings off and would give her dad more work. She decided to take the white room. The movers brought in her bed, her armoire and her toys. Hannah looked at her daughter as she played with her teddy bear on her bed.
“Do you want to paint your room tomorrow?”
“O.K. Can we paint it pink?”
“Sure, anything you like.”
“YEY!”
Dorothy jumped on her bed and then sat and looked at her teddy bear. Hannah found her husband in the living room placing the furniture.
“She’s all set up. Just have to put her clothes in her drawers and put her covers.” She informed him.
“Good to hear. And the other bedrooms?”
“All done too.”
“Not bad for a first day.”
“I’m going to go make us our first diner in our new house.”
“Sounds good, I’m starving.”
Hannah started cooking diner as Andrew sat on the couch exhausted after saying goodbye to the helpers.
“Dorothy, diner’s ready!” Hannah said loudly calling her daughter and waking up her husband.
Hannah waited and didn’t hear anything. She walked up the stairs and found her daughter asleep on the not yet covered bed with her teddy bear in her arms. She woke her up and brought her downstairs. Andrew was already sitting at the table when they arrived. They all sat, prayed and started to eat. When they were done Hannah helped put Dorothy’s clothes in her closet and drawers and also put the covers on her daughter’s bed.
“You can play until nine o’clock. Then I will come and put you to bed, alright sweetie?”
“Yes, mommy.”
Hannah went on to helping her husband with their things. Andrew was tired and went to rest when he was done his things. She finished her part and went downstairs to watch television. There were re-runs of The Brady Bunch one of her favourite shows. She relaxes and took in everything that had happened in the day; with a nice hot chocolate and cookies. She heard someone walk down the stairs and she guessed it was Dorothy.
“Honey, it’ll be time to sleep soon. Come sit with me we can watch TV before you go to bed.”
She looked in back and didn’t see anybody. Hannah continued watching her show and forgot about it, an old house makes noises and she knew that. At nine, she went upstairs and put her daughter to bed, she hadn’t realized how tired she actually was. Hannah went to take a shower and went to join her husband in bed.
