Lydia saw nothing in the distance but a blue sky reaching the flatland.
“Right there, dear. See it?”
Quincy stopped to point it out to her. He closed one eye and held his finger out straight, telling Lydia to do the same. And then she saw it.
It was so lackadaisical, it would be missed by anyone not actually looking to find it. It looked just like a wave of air, the kind that can sometimes be seen on really hot, sunny days.
“Oh, I see it now. So, we just have to walk through it?”
“Great, that sounds easy enough.”
“It’s the only easy thing here,” Quincy said, chuckling.
“Well, I don’t hate easy.” Aiden said.
The four walked up to the portal and one by one walked through. Lydia went last, and she took one hard look back around at the desert. With that look, she took her step and disappeared into the portal.
