Chapter 85

When Pete was done laying out his plan, the other three men in the room just sat silently. Each one was going over the plan in their head, searching for any problems that could arise. They all had questions, but as soon as they brought it up, Pete was there with an answer. He was clearly prepared and had thought about this operation for some time and from every angle.

“So it looks like you have an answer for everything”, Stephen admitted. “But answer this if you don’t mind. Why are you doing this?”

“It’s time. People have been lied to and been kept in the dark long enough. And honestly, for the first time I can remember, I think people will be able to handle the truth.”

“Why now?’, asked Sebastian. “Your group has been around for thousands of years. What makes it okay to reveal everything now?” Alex and Stephen looked to The Conductor for his response, because that was the question that was on their mind as well.

“Fair question. But let me ask you a question first. Do any of you have friends or family overseas?”

The question, seemingly out of nowhere, stumped the three men at first, but finally Stephen responded. “Yeah, my sister lives in Germany.”

“Okay, good. If I told you that it was a matter of life and death that you get in touch with her in the next five minutes, do you think that would be a problem?”

“Of course not”, Stephen replied as he pulled his cell phone from his back pocket. “I text her almost every day anyway.”

“Exactly. You could even have a video chat with her from across the globe. Just like that. Now imagine if I asked your father that same question when he was your age?”

Stephen smiled as he imagined his father answering such a question. “You could ask him that question now and he wouldn’t have a clue. But yeah, I see your point.”

“I hope so. There have been so many technological advances in the past few decades and especially in the last twenty years, that it’s hard to amaze people with new innovations. When we expose everything that our group has been keeping secret, there will be very few revelations that will shock anyone. People have been so exposed to new technology they’ve become numb to it.”

Sebastian sheepishly asked, “Very few? So there will be some shocking stuff?”

The Conductor smiled slyly as he replied, “Kid, you have no idea.”
