What’s done in the dark ...

“Alright everyone, check your packets, make sure you look over them through the summer. Some of you I may see next year and some of you, I won’t. Just always remember to be the best you can be and achieve every goal you have. Make sure none of you get into any of trouble. It was a great year. You all have a blessed summer.” It was the end of the school year and I planned to relax with my time off. High school was a challenge. They were much different than the normal elementary kids I dealt with. Either way I managed to get through the school year. I finished up some paper work and headed home. When I got there, something felt different. I sat my keys on the kitchen counter and went to take a bubble bath. I hooked my phone onto the aux cord, turned on Mary J. Blige, strength of a woman album and let it play through. I went into my stash and rolled a blunt. Today was the first day I didn’t have to look forward to those kids. I figured I’d hang with my girl Tamia. She’s married with 2 kids, I haven’t spoken to her since the school year began. I guess I could give her a call. I dialed her number and she instantly picked up.
“Where the hell have you been!” I looked at the phone to be sure I dialed the right number, she sounded different.
“I am not your husband. I was calling to check up on you. I know we haven’t been keeping in touch, are you free tonight?” I said hoping to soften the mood.
“I been going through so much with my so called husband. These kids been driving me crazy and my family is turning their backs on me for all of this shit.” She said. I felt bad because I didn’t even know the half of what was going on.
“Okay, give me a few minutes and I’ll come pick you up. Speaking of the kids, where are they? I gotta see my god babies”
“Right here, playing the game” she sounded sad. I had to find out what was going on.
“Say no more, send me the address. I’ll be there soon” right after I ended the call, I also ended my “relaxation”. So much for that. I quickly jumped into my Victoria secret PINK sweat suit, and threw my hair in a ponytail. I looked at my phone to see if she sent the address and she did. I grabbed my keys off the kitchen counter and hopped in my blue 2018 Kia stinger GT. The address I pulled up to had to be wrong. It was a damn motel 6, I know damn well playboy don’t have her staying in there. I beeped the horned 3 times. I seen a woman with 2 kids coming down but when I seen them walking towards my car it brought tears to my eyes. I hopped out to grab the twins, Kamia and Kareem. They were as beautiful as I remembered. I secured them in the backseat then I turned to Tamia and gave her the biggest I’m sorry hug. We got in the car and went to my house, where I cooked dinner and gave the kids a bath. After the kids went to sleep I poured Mia & I a glass of wine, now ready to play catch up.
“So what’s up with William?” I asked.
“Girl, last year this man has stepped out on me plenty of times. You know any married couple can get through that. But when he started to hit me is when Shit got out of hand”
“Where is he now?” I was so shocked, William was always a loving guy.
“Probably somewhere looking for us, we moved to Chicago, earlier this year. But that was when it happened...” she took a sip and continued “So basically we moved to Chicago, it was wonderful the kids started school had friends he started his job at the law firm, but then he got in trouble with some dangerous people, he said he met the guy when him & Tony were doing business together back in the day. I didn’t want to tell you, I don’t want you think I’m trying to stir things up but something isn’t right. All I heard was my husband being in business with a crook.
“What do you mean when him and tony were working together?” I looked at her for answers.
“I thought you knew.... well that’s another story for another time” she took another sip of wine & continued to tell her story .....
