The Party

Noah
Sunday, August 15, 9:10 a.m.

What can be better than having a Party just before your High School starts? , And especially if it’s your own birthday party. My life is just like all the others who will start their High School life at Edgewood High, one of the most prestigious schools with a dark History. Edgewood High is known for its great Education and the number of natural and accidental deaths from the past five years.
If someone asks me why this school is still open after so many deaths, the only answer I give them is, “It has a history of 57 years and a reputation so high which no other school has. The Mayor, the Sheriff and all others in the Town have been graduated from this school. Also, the deaths taken place are all-natural, and school can’t do anything about it, and the accidental deaths were because of the mistake of the students only which is confirmed by the Police itself.”

“Hey Goofball, wake up. It’s already late, and you are still on your bed.” My little sister Addison shouted while kicking my room’s door.
It is my birthday maybe that’s why she is nice. Well, she calling me goofball is her nice side; otherwise, the names she gives me daily are just next level.

I am not ready for today because I’m not too fond of parties, but I can do nothing. So let get ready for one last party before going to Hell. My mom came up and gave me my clothes and asked me to get ready fast.
I am more excited to go to Hell; I mean High School. I have been waiting for this for a long time.

Most kids are excited about High School, but it is only the new things that excite them. On the other hand, I am excited about the new mysteries I was going to solve.

“Hey, what are you doing? We are getting late for the movie.” My friend Derek reaches over and puts his hand on my shoulder.

“Yeah, just give me a minute, and I will be ready.”

“Also, Happy Birthday, man.”

“Yeah, thanks, Bro.”

Derek has been my best friend since 2nd class, and it is almost impossible for anyone to break us apart. We are almost like brothers. It was not the school that made the bond between us. It was the common interest of mystery we had. We always talk about my dad’s cases. That brings up another important thing; my dad’s a Private Detective.

“Are you doing that thing again?” Derek asked me while jumping on my bed.

“What thing?”

“You know what.”

“Just cut the crap.”

“The thing in which you talk to yourself.”

“I don’t do that.”

“Umm…. Yeah, you do.”

Yes, I do that. I do it because talking to myself helps me in solving problems. My dad says that if you don’t know an answer to a thing, ask someone smarter, so I do what he told me. I ask the question to myself and keep talking to myself until I get the answers. Pretty convenient, right?

“Hey, I told you if we are late, then you will be paying for my Lunch this month.”

“Yeah, I am ready; let’s go.”

We have planned to watch this crime thriller movie for so long. I am pretty excited about it because it is a true story, and in the end, the Serial Killer was never caught.

“Happy Birthday Baby, where are you both going?” My mom asked while taking out the cake from the oven.

“Thanks, Mom.”

“We are going to the theatre Mrs. Hale.” Derek interrupted me.

“Ok, but be back by 6 a.m. for the Party.”

“Sure, Mrs. Hale”

Without letting my mom say another word Derek pulled my shirt, and we rushed out of my house. Derek seems to be pretty excited about the movie. He is excited about everything, and the thing he is most excited about is getting his first Kiss in High School, which I am not sure will happen.

The thing I am most excited about, other than the mysteries, is The Junior Prom. Now the most important question comes up. What does a guy who loves nothing other than solving problems want to do at a prom? Well, it’s not that a guy like me can’t like someone. There is always someone, and there is someone in my life. Let’s not talk about this now. It will eventually come up, so let’s wait and see.

Sunday, 15 August, 9:30 a.m.

What can be better than watching a crime thriller movie on Sunday? For me, the answer is nothing. I am one of the people who want to reach every place before time consistently, so how could I be late for the movie I have been waiting to watch for a long time. No one will believe that I waited in line for 3 hours to get the ticket for this movie. Let’s hope it is worth the time I have wasted.
We took the shortest route to the theatre. Ran through the Woodpine Lane and jumped over the old man Vincent’s fence to save 5 minutes. Till the time we reached the theatre the movie was going to start.

“We made it.” I tried to catch my breath.

“I told you we would make it. Let’s not waste more time and go inside.” Noah said while looking at the movie poster.

“Save me a seat. I will bring Popcorn.” I rushed towards the counter.

Redwater Theatre is one of the oldest theatres. It has been one of the most popular places in Edgewood. I entered the hall and saw Noah sitting at the back.

Sunday, 15 August, 1:05 p.m.

“That was amazing, just fucking amazing. I can’t believe that it was a true story. I mean, how can that be true?” I asked with a surprised voice.

“Well, believe it or not, it was true,” Noah said with a little smile on his face.

“You know what was my favourite part?”

“What?”

“The one in which the news reporter is telling that person that the best match of the killer is of the person who made the posters and the person tells him that he is the one who made the Poster. I can’t understand what he was thinking telling anyone an essential detail about the case.”

“I don’t know. That was a silly mistake, but everyone makes mistakes. The good thing was that the person he told was not the killer.”

“Hey, we still have a lot of time, so what should we do?” I asked while he was writing down something in his diary.

“I am not sure. Why don’t you make the call?”

“Ok, let’s go to the Oakheart Villa. It is near Edgewood High.”

“And why would I want to go to an old, abandoned villa?” Noah is still trying to concentrate on his diary.

“Well, for starters, the neighbourhood has reported unknown voices coming from the house, and also the place is known for the murder of Taylor Pena.”

Taylor Pena case is the most mysterious murder case in Edgewood. Noah was obsessed with this because the case was given to his father by the Mayor itself. After years of investigation, the case was closed because the police ever found no evidence. I knew if I bring this up, he will go inside the villa without second thoughts.

“Ok, let’s go, but we have to be back till 6:00 p.m.,” Noah said after finally putting his diary in his pocket.

“Yeah, sure.”

Edgewood High was located on the other side of town. It took us an hour to get there. Well, the view of the villa wasn’t welcoming. Many people believed the villa is haunted. Maybe that’s the reason it has been abandoned.

“Do you think Taylor’s spirit I still there?” I asked Noah while touching the fence of the villa.

“There is no such thing as spirits or ghosts,” Noah said while looking at the villa like he was examining it.

When I haven’t seen the villa, I wanted to go inside, but now that I know how creepy it looks, I don’t think it is a great idea. Other than the villa, the whole street was empty, like no one lived in that block.

“Hey, let’s go home. I don’t think going inside is a good idea.” I said while turning towards Noah, but he was not there. I felt a cold breeze passing through me like it was saying something to me.

“Boo……” Noah shouted from behind me. I jumped like my heart was going to stop.

“What the Fuck……are you fucking insane. You could have killed me.” I shouted while trying to catch my breath.

“Well, that was fun,” Noah said while laughing like a maniac.

“Where were you gone?”

“You know, just looking around. Isn’t it weird that the whole street is empty at this time?”

“Maybe everyone here doesn’t like to come out much. We should not waste our time here anymore. Let’s go home.”

“Okay, sure,” Noah said while looking at the villa for one last time.

Finally, we were back to the place from where our day begins. I am not sure if I am ready for my party; still, the excitement for tomorrow kept me happy for the rest of the party.

It was not a big party, but all my relatives were there, and too many people in a single place make me uncomfortable. I tried to avoid everyone and spend the evening with Derek. It is not just that I don’t like parties, but I don’t like my birthday because of some reason. The reason will come up, eventually.
Finally, the nightmare was over, and I am left alone in my room with all my presents. I always started by opening Derek’s gift. It was pretty big this year. I tore down the gift wrap and saw a Guitar inside. He always knows what I want. I wanted a guitar for so long, and now I had one. All thanks to Derek. After a long time, I will be able to learn how to play one. Maybe I will give it a try tomorrow. Let’s hope I can sleep tonight.

I kept thinking about tomorrow and was not able to sleep. I hope the mystery I have been waiting to solve for so long finally gets solved.
