They were seated at the international terminal with their boarding pass when Peel excused herself to the washroom. Few minutes later there was a beep on Mr. Conwoods phone “I need to be here at London. I will be under Dr. Mason’s treatment. Goodbye.” They wanted to send off their bodyguards to bring back Peel but she had every single right to make her choices.
“Why did you just not tell them you wanted to stay?”
April snarled as she drove her car.
“They would have insisted on staying with me.” She replied meekly.
“And what if they don’t leave?”
“I will run away again.”
An hour later they were at April’s apartment. Her apartment was just like her, vibrant and full of colors. The walls were painted in greens, reds, yellows and oranges. There were three bedrooms, one large dining room, one drawing, two attached bathrooms with the bedrooms and one beside the kitchen. Her flat was a mess with magazines, cloths, vape juices all sprawled across the place.
“Don’t worry babe, I will get it cleaned by today.”
“Because you are living with me!” April snapped.
“I need to go home.” Peel muttered with her tone sombre.
“Why? So you can get yourself killed and leave me feeling guilty behind?”
“We are not arguing over this Peel!”
Peel knew there was no point in arguing with April. She could literally go to any extent to make sure she stayed and availed her treatments because she loved her.
“Is noodles okay for lunch?”
“Yes” Peel nodded with a smile.
The housekeeper had arrived at evening after lunch organizing the mess. April lived with Nichole before their break up. After she left, her life had sorted out but her apartment was a wreck. Peel spent most of the evening reading a book she randomly found lying on the dressing table, “To kill a mocking bird” by Harper Lee. April was working on the upcoming magazine issue. They had noodles for dinner too. After dinner they sat on her bedroom floor with only the fairy lights on.
“Do you miss Nichole?”
“Hell no! That woman was crazy.”
“But you were in love.”
“Aren’t we all always in love with something or someone before the doom!” She chuckled exhaling the vape smoke.
“Do you want to see magic babe?”
Peel’s eyes glimmered as April led out the smoke slowly from her mouth on the floor. It formed a cluster of dense cloud. Then with her hands she swiped it up and a white line formed in air. She led out another one on the floor as Peel swiped it up with her hand watching the white line forming again. She smiled. April brushed her fingers across Peel’s face.
“I can never see you like that again.” Pain flickered in her eyes.
Peel lowered her head on her lap, as April caressed it. She watched as she formed smoke rings in the air.
