Chapter Five

Megan dropped Kaleb off, at school, and then she headed to the mall and straight to the baby department of the first store. She reached out and touched the tiny little clothes, and one hand unknowingly found its way to her barely swelling belly. As she entered the next store, her cell jingled in her purse. A smile spread across her lips as she checked caller ID.

“Hello, baby, how are you doing?” Asked Megan

“Doing really good, sweetheart. What are you up to?”

Megan giggled. “I’m wasting away my day looking at baby clothes. What about you? How’s work going?”

“Well, I’m glad you asked. I had a meeting with the captain today.”

“Oh yeah, what did he need you for?”

She continued to look at baby clothes as Jake told her about his day.

“That’s wonderful, sweetie. It does sound dangerous, though.” She tried not to let the fear she felt about his new job sound in her voice.

“Yeah, but you know me. I thrive on danger.”

“Yeah, that’s the problem. Please promise me you will be careful?

“You know I will. And the best part is that this new position is a promotion with a big pay raise.”

“That’s wonderful news, my love. I’m so happy for you!”

“I thought you would be. Well, I need to get back to work, sweetheart. I’ll see you tonight.”

“All right, have a good day at work, honey. I love you.”

“Love you, too. Bye.”

After hanging up, she continued to walk around the store, with a lot more to think about, not really paying attention to the clothes she had been looking at.

Sarah McBride wore a button up shirt and a very short skirt. She found herself bound to the bed, gagged, and blindfolded. She tried to take deep breaths through her stuffy nose in the musty, cold room. She moved her head up, trying to get the blindfold to move far enough to look around the room. When she got the blindfold moved enough, she saw that the four walls were made of concrete. There was only one door and a small window. The only piece of furniture was the bed. She had a perfect view of the door.

As the tears started to fall, she wondered if anyone even knew she had been missing, or even cared.

She heard a door open and shut. She glanced over at her kidnapper and wanted to scream at her him and beg for him not to hurt her, but the gag prevented anything but a small gurgle to escape.

The mattress sagged under someone’s weight and she dared not move fearing that whoever this was had been sent to kill her.

Please God, help me get out of this.

Somehow, this helped her deal a little better with what was happening. A hand grabbed a hold of her arm, which startled her. She whimpered and started to cry as the person stroked her cheek. The warmth of the person’s hand contradicted the cold of the room.

“Don’t worry, my dear, I won’t let anyone else touch you.”

With one hand, he started undoing the buttons on her shirt, while his other hand moved up her leg, feeling her warm, smooth skin. He reached half way down her shirt when the door opened again and another figure walked in.

“I told you I’m not to be bothered when I’m with Sarah!” he barked.

Her eyes went wide with the realization that her captive knew her name. The figure that walked in whispered something to the other person.

The evil presence next to Sarah on the bed leaned close and whispered into her ear, his hot breath making her cringe. “I’ll be back, my beauty.”

Sarah heard the door close as they both exited the room.

The boss walked into another room where Jermaine was tied up in a chair. He glared at Jermaine with utter contempt and found himself growling as he walked up and slapped him in the back of the head.

“I told you not to betray me, Jermaine.”

“I didn’t, sir, I promise.”

“Quit lying to me, Jermaine. I know you talked to the police.”

“I didn’t!”

“You will tell me what you told them, and you will tell me now. You know what I do to people who betray me.” The leader pulled out a cigar clipper, placed Jermaine’s little finger in it.

“No, please don’t. I didn’t say anything. I swear!” He tried to look away, but the guy behind him held his head in place so he could watch.

The boss smiled as he clipped off Jermaine’s finger, and then yelled at him. “Tell me what I want to know!”

As the blood dripped off his hand and onto the floor, he grimaced. “I didn’t tell the cops anything, I swear!”

The Fist grabbed his chin and held his head steady. “You’re not going to pass out till I get the information I want, and I’m growing impatient, Jermaine.”

Juan Vieira dumped a large barrel of water over Jermaine’s head as The Fist continued to scream. “What did you tell them? Tell me now!”

Juan handed a stun gun to The Fist and placed it against Jermaine’s chest then used it on him, still screaming at him. “Tell me what you told them!” As the smoke rose, the smell of burning flesh filled the air.

Jermaine tried pleading, but nothing came out after being stunned.

The Fist turned to Juan, “Get him to talk and then tell me what he says. I have some unfinished business that needs my attention. Use any means necessary.”

“What if he dies?”

“Then he dies.” He shrugged. “No big loss.”

The Fist left the room and as the door closed, Jermaine screamed. “Make it stop. Please Marshall, make it stop.”
